In normal MKM I agree - here? Just too many cards that have to die.

Eh, it's fine once in a while, how many times do you want to see Atraxa/mono red/do nothing control decks. The format changes are way to long..

If you're not having fun, no reason to force yourself to play it. It isn't a job. I think that solution has a lot of side effects to how magic has been designed. (Opponent always draws gas, control can't weather out an aggro player). I think the best solution is just in the cards themselves. Give us more cheap stuff with scry/surveil to sculpt early draws.

The problem is 90+% of people are completely brain dead and the game caters to the masses. 20 years ago mtg was an intellectual/nerd activity, so the game was complex. Many micro decisions accrued into a small advantage, which you leveraged into a victory. Now? Any decent 2-3 drop can easily and single handedly win the game with no thought required. There are even one drops that can solo you, ragavan. There is no removal in the game that efficiently removes these types of threats, ragavan, okko, omnath, fable etc, therefore your only choice is to play similarly over-tuned cards. This has the side effect of making your decisions before and during the game completely irrelevant when compared to drawing 1 more bomb than your opponent. Combine that with net decking eliminating all creativity and you're left with the pile of shit that is Arena.

There were several formats created in the early days of magic with a similar notion (mini-master, fat stack, mental magic, etc, etc). So I don't buy the argument that this notion somehow defeats the "design" of magic. There are rules you're used to playing with and I get that you might feel weird playing under slightly different rules, but rules are just a construct that everyone plays under. You could say that a "commander" makes no sense given the original rules of magic, but here we are and it's quite possibly the most popular variation of Magic currently played. Even limited itself is a construct not mentioned in the original rules, yet we play it and love it. Again, the biggest complaint (by far) about Magic is the mana screw/bloat.So why not offer a format where that isn't a concern and those people can just have fun in the way they prefer without those agitations.
