I don’t think some people realize how fast those balls are going- 90 - 100 mph pitches HURT. Imagine the bruises. Especially when you can hear the players grunt and the ball colliding with them
The worst hit by pitch that I can think of was Taylor Ward getting hit in the face in Toronto, breaking some bones in his face and being out for the rest of the year
Now I haven't watched baseball in a fair while, but I have to say even with-it making sense it's pretty bad that hitters are having to wear pads on their arm just to help protect them from this.

how are some of these guys not getting broken bones, when I was a kid playing softball I got hit in the wrist at bat and broke my growth plate. these guys are getting hit by 90+ mph balls and just like eh whatever lol
My bachelors degree is in anthropology, my academic concentration was largely biological and forensic anthropology. Growth plate fractures are more likely to happen because growth plates are weaker and softer than the surrounding ligaments and tendons in a child's growing skeleton. These fractures can occur in long bones like the thigh bone, forearm bones, and bones in the hands and fingers, and are also known as Salter-Harris fractures. Some people in the MLB do end up with broken bones, that just isn't covered in this video.
Worst one I ever had was under the arm pit left welts from the stitches. It was a practice older kid thought it was funny till I went to have a “ team meeting “ on the mound. Wouldn’t have took it like that had he not thought it was funny. Never pulled that shit again though lol
I had no idea how often this happened. Then again I’m not a real avid baseball fan but sports injury has always interested me since in high school my anatomy teacher was also an athletic physical therapist (if that’s the right term) but the mechanism of injury in sports are usually incredibly brutal and uniquely severe. Feel bad for these players. Injuries must be especially developed because of the risk of severe injury changing their lives and ending their careers.

This season, J.T realmuto on the Phil’s was catching for Jeff Hoffman, dude pitched a low ball and it connected with J.T’s lateral in his ankle, no catchers gear whatsoever in the area. It looked pretty painful. He kept playing though since he’s used to being hit by his own pitchers now- Wheeler drilled him in the throat and took him out of the game about a month ago
I understand that you aren't supposed to feel bad about hitting the batter as the pitcher, but they could at least show the slightest bit of sympathy after getting hit as bad as they did. Also, why the fake thumbnail?
@@51birds9 are u dumb. that doesnt mean the no hitter is broke. a no hitter is when the other team doest get a hit. batter didnt get a hit he got hit by the ball. same as a walk. it just means the pitcher doesnt have a perfect game anymore. just a no hitter. check ur facts.
I don't follow baseball much, but Does it ever happen where a pitcher would purposely throw it to the body of a top batter so the teams top player would be out for the season?
But the whole point IS to drive the ball right into the Batters. That's what I did when I played MLB on Consoles back in the day. Drilling them with the ball.
Baseball is so weird. U hit someone with a beamer in cricket the bowler apologies and checks on u with his teamates if he hits u purposely with a bouncer he checks on u. Nah in baseball the pitcher just looks at u like yh thats what u get or a big ass fight insues. People get hit similar to this un cricket and there are barely any fights
Usually in baseball you can easily tell if a hit by pitch is intentional or not. If teams are trash talking eachother before and things are already tense, then the pitcher throws a fastball right to the batter then benches clear.

So your argument is every single pitch should be a strike? Why have an ump then? If you saw some of the ways you have to grip the ball to get it to move you would understand. This tells me you have never played baseball

MLB is corrupt! PItchers, catchers, umpires, and announcers are in collusion, in a conspiracy to promote the game by encouraging, allowing and excusing assaults on pitchers with impunity. As soon as the deed is done, three things automatically happen, 1) the catcher jumps up to intercede should the victim march on the pitcher, 2) the umpire acts with indifference and inserted of throwing out the batter he throws the pitcher another baseball, adding a coda,a gesture of approval of the spectacle. 3) the announcers rejoice at the batters being hit, normalizing the bad behavior. 4) fans do not boo very little if at all, since the behavior has been normalized. The Commissioner of baseball is quiet, afraid to upset the state of affairs. This happens due to cowardice on behalf of the umpires and the Commissioner. MLB only cares about ticket sales, to hell with chronic injuries to baseball players. Umpires are cowards when an entire stadium is watching them. Cowardice, cowardly umpires. They issue warnings, AFTER a batter is hit. Every umpire should issue a blanket warning at the beginning of every game, and/or the Commissioner should speak out against intentional assaults on batters at risk of ejection and fines.
