I remember when this incident happened and it is nice to know that after all of these years, both Jim Leyland and Barry Bonds have great respect for each other.

I'm not really much of a bonds fan by any stretch of the imagination, but seeing the way he reflected on that situation was pretty impressive.

Barry is an asshole, but he isn’t dumb and as much as most people don’t want to admit, he’s the best all around baseball player to ever step on a diamond.

If you have a bad baseball team, you want Jim Leyland managing it. He’ll build it back up the right way.

The Pirates have been looking for a replacement for Jim Leyland since 1996. Every manager they’ve had since then has sucked (including Hurdle).

Wow! I have never heard Barry Bonds agree with criticism about him. Never, him saying how a player should act and he didnt, i didnt expect that from him. Have to give him some credit. He was my favorite player in the 90's and i knew how sensitive he was. However, him and Tony Gwynn , RIP, i didnt want to miss their at-bats. I watched these guys play any chance i got. The shame is that Bonds was one of the best players in MLB history even prior to 1999. If had retired then instead of becoming a chemical experiment, he would be in the HOF right now. I have heard quite a few writers and players say this same thing.

Can you imagine Jim Leyland managing the New York Yankees back then? That would have been something.

As a Mariner fan, I would love a manager like Jim Leyland, he holds his players accountable and to a high standard and isn't afraid of taking on big egos. The current manager not only is a wuss and basically lets incompetence happen...he cant even manage a bullpen.....there is no discipline anymore

The fact that he was able to put up with Barry Bonds’ BS for so long is an accomplishment itself

Barry Bonds is one of the greatest baseball players ever but he was cocky arrogant and most of his teammates didn't like like him because he had a bad attitude

I still have an autographed photo of him and me with Barry Lamar Bonds being as nice as you could possibly be. One of my most treasured possessions.

Leyland was bitter he didn't get to the Big Leagues sooner. I had him in triple a and he was fun to play for. I had him in The Bigs twice and you could see the bitterness.

🙄Yeah, I’m pretty sure he did just fine handling his “bitterness”. Dude managed four different teams over a 28-year span, winning pennants in both leagues, a World Series and three “Manager of the Year” awards. He’s an old school, hard ass dude. That doesn’t mean he was bitter.

I love what Bonds said after the fact. He admitted Leyland was right and he was wrong and he became a better player for it. Nowadays they would be crying racism!
