MLC Blade Sharpening is a small side business I started in 2017 when I purchased the Magna-Matic Mag8000 blade sharpener. I wanted a way to service our own mower blades, but also be able to offer a professional service to homeowners and other contractors. Fast forward to 2020 and this is my setup and the process used to service customers blades. ENJOY!

Mitchell i just got a magna 8000 & i was wondering how u went about getting the 1/32 of an inch distance between grinding wheel & table for the 30 degree angle. Do u measure it with a .032 gauge?

@@bruteforce1228 in the manual on pg 10 where it says to lower it approx 1/32", it also says "lower it as close as possible without touching the worktable, so you can see just a small space". This is what I have done since day 1 without any issues. I've never measured the space. There's really no need to be that precise, that's why they say "approximately." Hopefully this helps.

@@mithgo_outdoor Yes it does help. I also seen that on pg 10. Maybe the angle on my blades is not at 30 degrees & im having to grind them down to reach that mark. A1 was sharpening my blades before by hand only. The magna starts off only getting the top part of surface & the more i push in & pull out it starts to move to the bottom off blade where it counts.

@@bruteforce1228 you're doing it correct. What you're experiencing is the cutting angle on the blade your sharpening is actually greater than 30. Most likely 35-40 degrees. Acceptable cutting angle range is 30-35.

Always wondered if these blade sharpeners would sharpen mulching blades. That's all we run in the Spring/Summer, then switch to High Lift for Leaves. Appreciate you taking the time to show how well you can sharpen them on the Mag8000. Definitely something to consider for next season.

This set up is definitely the way to go. I do the welder maintenance work on all the lawn equipment at a university and shortly after I was hired I requested they purchase this setup as I had the mag balancer and a belt sharpener when I had a side lawn care business. You will never go wrong with the Magnamatic 800 and blade balancer setup. Nice sharp and balanced blades equals smoother running spindles and a nice healthy even cut lawn. Before my hire they used a hand held grinder. This setup gives a more consistent sharper 30 deg. Angle along the blade After about 30 blades I dress and true the wheel for 20 seconds taking off minimal surface with a diamond dresser and it is cutting like new again. Awesome setup. If you sharpen a lot of blades it is the only way to go in my opinion.

ha i use an old radial arm saw, that sat around for years almost headed to the junk yard, i put a stone on for blade sharpening blades. I can free hand sharpen like whats shown on this vid or i can put the blade in a milling vise and move the saw on the blade as well. its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying that nice high tech stuff with the same results. i wish i has that high tech brush blade cleaner thats a cool tool. thanks Mitchell really informative vid.

Definitely would love to have a setup like this but not big enough to be doing that lol. Maybe I can start a blade sharpening business under my lawn care business like your self. Right now I use a hand held grinder on a yellow hornet stand that keeps the correct angle. Keep up the great content.

Mr Mitchell. Thank you very much for the great video. I bought the sharpening mag 8000 system like the one you have . I don’t own a lawn Maintenance Company . Just a home Owner with a large property and a zero turn Mower . I got the system because of the craftsmanship on this equipment . I love good quality USA made tools . My question to you is , How important to you is having the tip at the edge of the blade being a 90 degree point tip vs a rounded tip. I saw the video Mr Bauer has on the magnamatic website where he emphasized the importance of having this corner of the blade perfectly squared. !

First, congrats on your purchase! Second, I will stress the same as Gerd in his video. I will add that I've serviced many blades that had a more rounded corner and customers (and myself alike) have had great results. As long as the end of the blade is sharp I've found it will still perform wonderfully. Have a great day

Super job ! Very neat to see how the pro's do it behind the counter. Its so funny . I've been bowing for over 30 years and Just recently, ive found out how important is to have sharp blades. I dont think i will have the set up you have. Although i aspire to get there. Im going to start with the All American. What do you think. Im a small Lawn Maintenance Company. I run a 54" Kabota, ( x blades) and a stand Scagg 32" (x blades). Got my blades from Ballard.

there are many variables. I don't just sharpen, I also repair. A blade in decent shape can be serviced sometime in less that a couple minutes.

Rotating in the same direction. Would make it pull or push wouldn't it? I would have thought they were opposite. One pulling, one pushing creating no pull or push. I Learn something new every day!!

yep they rotate in the same direction. if they were opposite it would either pull the blade in or push the blade out.

doing my research right now. i want to buy a sharpener only once. pretty new at this so i have a question. are all blades 30 degree sharping angle? one mower runs mulching blades the other high lift.

Instead of saying what I recommend, I'll share with you what I use. There are different types of wheels. What works best for me, might not for others. For conventional flat mower blades I use the Norton 9000-23 (1" soft) and for the curved mulching blades i use the Norton 8000-30 (1/2" medium). Thanks for tuning in and supporting the channel.

@@ogsan1296 not a problem...on my hand grinder I use either a 60 or 80 grit flap disc. Just depends on the repair. I mostly use an 80.
