What better way to end this weekend full of ⚽️ than being at Nashville SC's stadium opener over at the brand new fortress that is the Geodis Park!
I am fortunate to have had 2 of my really good friends, Joe and Chris, join me on this adventure. After another 3 hour long drive, this time southwards, we arrived to the vibrant Music City, Nashville, Tennessee. Upon arriving, we explored downtown before proceeding to the Fort Negley parking lot. Finally parked and made our way over to the shuttle that would take us to Geodis Park, which only set us back $10 roundtrip, a fair price. After a 10 min drive we at last had arrived to our drop off location and made a quick 5 min walk up the "path" that eventually led us to the front of the illustrious, and captivating Geodis Park, the largest ⚽️ specific stadium in the US, capable of holding up to 30k! A few photos later we lined up to enter the fan shop. It wasn't until we were inside that I found my pin and also found out we can enter the stadium within the shop, so no lining back up outside. We grabbed our drinks and made it to our section just in time before kick off!
It was definitely a unique and funky experience as it was for sure my 1st time in a MLS stadium with so many people there, which made it extraordinary. However, once we arrived to our section of 107, it was already packed and so we had to resort to looking elsewhere to hang and watch the game, so much for GA. lol We ended up going right upstairs of 107 and settled near the stairs. It was a perfect spot, not obstructing others view, had an aerial view of the whole stadium, etc. so we thought. The kick off presentation and atmosphere was absurd! Even we couldn't help ourselves and joined in on the celebrations! Once the match began, we saw Nashville take initiative and for the majority of the 1st half created plenty of chances, but were unable to be clinical in the 3rd as well as key saves from the gks. Nil nil at halftime it ended. Joe ventured out to seek some pizza, but came back unsuccessful as they had sold out. And so our stroke of unluckiness would continue as security finally made us move around the 60' marker. We found a couple spots withing the madness of the "hinchas" and it was amazing, but again short-lived as we were just acting agents of holding others spots while they came back. lol We did see Union's goal whilst there, a historic goal, the 1st ever goal scored in the Geodis Park. That was the signal to make what would be our last migration in the stadium. We ended up on the side of the concourse near the corner flag and actually was not terrible in terms of view. An impending sour loss in their 1st match at the new stadium must have been on everyone's minds. When out of nowhere from a corner, the ball somehow managed to make contact with a Union player's hand, accidental or not, a clear handball. Therefore, a penalty was awarded to Nashville. Leal stepped up to the spot with a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders, it was up to him to avoid a 1st home loss. He made no mistake, fooled the keeper going the other way and buried it in the back of the goal. A huge sigh of relief from the home crowd, followed by celebrations all around!! The momentum was with Nashville and they began to believe. They drew so close to taking all 3 points, but a sharing of the points is what ultimately happened. The home supporters applauded the effort and shortly after everyone made their way out.
I am super grateful to be a part of history as one of the 1st people in the Geodis Park! What an amazing game in such a magnificent stadium. I hope to come back and watch another game here, hopefully this time in designated seats. lol I had such a great time in the music city of Nashville along with great company. It will be possibly a whole month until my next vlog, but I hope you all enjoy this vlog and continue to watch all the other episodes in the series if you haven't done so yet!
