Kinda surprised that the Wing Chun guy actually threw some pretty decent strikes. Only issue was that he was clearly untested in actual combat and didn't know how to break a boxing style defense. Traditional martial artists should be praising this MMA guy for strengthening their art by putting it to the test, not vilifying him for exposing their weakness. Very few martial arts are practical in real world scenarios. I've studied Ninjutsu for fifteen years, and most of the techniques are impractical or rely upon trickery/deception. My brother holds several black belts, Wing Chung is one of them. Totally useless in a real world scenario, but quite 'practical' in the Dojo where the students respect their teacher and wouldn't think of knocking him to the ground.' Bruce Lee is on the greatest examples of overrated in the history of martial arts, not to mention a bad actor.
@@invisiblesouldier6166 Last time I checked, Ninjutsu was not a martial art, or even a fighting style. It is a system of guerrilla tactics used for sabotage and espionage. Shinobi rarely ever fought and were chiefly used as saboteurs or spies. Assassinations by shinobi were also few and far between. Schools taught today (if my knowledge serves me right) don't actually practice these tactics (don't have a direct lineage to it) but practice an immitation of it that has been expanded upon. I wouldn't compare an ancient war fighting system to martial arts, apples to oranges and all.

There is a BIG reason, All ARMY in the world use Karate and MMA style as the training. Simple, fast, and very effective to disable and take down anyone.
i think the pidgeon technique is to work on reflexes. when the pidgeon tries to fly away and you move your arm down, the pidgeon wont get the momentum it needs to fly off the arm. i think it is a hard technique to do and practice in martial arts
actually the "pigeon method" works like this: when pigeon about to fly away, their claws or talon or whatever feet toe part clench naturally, so if you push your finger into their claws, they'll hold onto your finger, making it unable to fly so the concept is that taichi is about going with the opponent's flow and counter or redirect their blows to somewhere else, and if you can match/sense pigeon's movement, it shows your ability on taichi to a certain extent although I know how it works but I am still supporting this dude's work on exposing fake martial artists
Real-time translation on a podcast is certainly not impossible, but it would be a really short Rogan podcast. 2-3 hours of translated questions and translated answers would get pretty tedious.
@Me Myself Sure, and that's not something he would argue as well, I think. What is certain is that he sparred full pads and contact CONSTANTLY. So much so that he was able to test out and fine tune his concepts. His concepts were sought out by fighters who did fight professionally and went on to either be champions OR were already champions who added his concepts to their arsenal. There is a great video on RU-vid on Mr. Lee's demonstration sparring. You may have seen it, but if you haven't, it is pretty CLEAR by his footwork, timing, angles of attack, tactics, etc, that this guy was NOT the average 'master' who never fought professionally. Even in a controlled setting like a demo, it is VERY clear that he would be a rough customer to have to deal with. Lol!!
Man he got famous asf. this is a wake up call for traditionalist to train their students more realistic combat applications of their arts. And nothing hidden for internal students only
Nothing wrong with training in the traditional arts as long as they go into it knowing what they are getting into and its limitations. Specifically, its limitations in practical fighting.
It's a mark of refined civilization when martial arts turn into complete theory and magical nonsense. China has had the chance to develop fighting styles then let them decline into nonsense many times. Because the remaining nonsense props up racist, nationalist ideas based on nothing else, it will be defended by all means. China would rather have everyone obediently thinking the same thing even if it's wrong, especially about something as obsolete and anti-social as hand-to-hand fighting.
The real marcial arts are reborn when the war or something bad is coming. Like the real capoeira style which is letal but since there's no war they train in a exercise way or dancing-culture way.
@Derron James Jabutay I've watched Shaolin monks doing some totally bogus party-trick stunts as demonstrations. Sure they're very athletic, but so what? They don't often do well against Lethwai or Muay Thai opponents. That Yi Long guy got decoded and flattened, he was clearly running on fitness and basic skills.
China’s been dominated by flashy martial arts with moves that wastes more energy for presentation of the camera. He’s just trying to introduce MMA to China.
That's not entirely true. Kung fu movies, are the same kind of movies as Rambo, you're not supposed to believe that they are realistic. Grab any stunt man on a martial art movie set, or even martial art movie stars like Jackie Chan, they'll absolutely agree that they are not fighters, their acrobatic skills are for stage performing only. It's those self-claimed masters that deceived people into believing they can become the hero in those movies, to make profit from it.
A bunch of misconception. Martial arts seen in Chinese and Hong Kong movies are for the badassery, cinematic and theatrical purposes. They are mainly for showing off, not absolutely practical for fighting though they could be used for self-defense. However, like many other real martial arts, they are for the strength, the health, the discipline, and the morals.
These dudes are not in his weight class lol. These "masters" need to pack on some pounds if they seriously plan to win fights against other martial arts.
I might be mistaken, but the entire point of a lot of these “martial arts” is that you can take down someone bigger and stronger than you, so they’d kinda be probating their own martial arts wrong by doing that.

Most traditional martial arts in China are long removed from actual combat and what's left have been modified to be performance arts (basically dance moves) or used as exercise (the current state of Tai Chi, which originated as a defensive stance specializing in the use of the opponent's momentum against him) The existence of these "show" forms is fine as long as it's not advertised as practical combat forms, but if you want to advertise them as combat forms, you actually have to teach the combative parts of the forms and let them evolve as a whole.
