Mo Dao Zu Shi Episode 1-2 Reaction 

I would definitely recommend watching the show in the original Chinese subs, I know it might be unfamiliar at first but I promise it's executed so much better than it is in comparison to any other dubs for this show.

Yay! Mo Dao Zu Shi is one of my favorite stories in all its forms. Thanks for reacting to it and I hope you enjoy it as well. While I would recommend the Chinese version, I understand it is a bit of an odd feeling when you aren't used to it. MDZS was the first Chinese donghua (or Chinese anything really) I'd watched and it did take a bit of time to get used to the flow/speed of the voices. So I wont begrudge you watching the Japanese dub. I do recommend watching the opening and closings in the Chinese version, though, with subtitles. The songs are written as if certain characters are singing them (It's obvious as to who when you read the lyrics, especially once you come to know the characters), so give a lot of context that the Japanese opening/closings might miss, since the donghua itself does have to miss out on bits of original novel due to episode limits and censorship. Plus they're just beautiful songs in general. Either way, I'm just happy that you're watching MDZS in any form. It's a great story and deserves to be watched/read/experienced. Still, it's actually interesting from the point of view of someone who has watched the original version to watch again with a different dub. Watching the subtitles, there are subtle changes to the dialogue that I am curious about (same thing happens in all dubbed versions of any anime or donghua. Its super interesting). Out of interest, where is it you're watching the episodes in Japanese dub? I've never actually found a streaming site that shows the dubbed versions of MDZS before.

Well, this donghua version isn't actually BL but more like a bromance bcs sadly they cut out the juicy parts, the original source (novel) is kinda wild tho

Welcome to Mo dao zu shi - the epic masterpiece series! first I will fully recommend you to watch the Chinese dub first! And trust me you get used to it just like you go into the Japanese one. The big difference is in the dub quality - There is no comparison! it meant to be watch in the chinese dub and you are missing out a lot of Wei character just from his voice actor. Keep in mind you're supposed to be a little confused from the first 2 episodes, they did it deliberately. also to remember the characters have 3 names in their life time: 1. the name they got from birth - Wei ying. Only use by close friends and family! 2. the name they got after they got older, Wei Wuxian - that everyone can use. 3 a title they got for themselves if they create something/work on something - Yiling Patriarch - everyone can use. the rest will get all the answers later but let's just say we are now in Wei ying past way before everything happen. and this past is very important for many things in the story ^^ Wei ying is our good adorable troll, I hope you will like him. I consider epi 3 brilliant in world building too.

oh and some information - season 1 from the next episode will all be about Wei Wuxian's/Wei Ying's past, so in essence it's all flashback, we won't be going back to the current Wei ying in xuanyu's body for a while! Season 2 will be back to present time of Wei ying in xuanyu's body but will also have lots of flashbacks. Just giving you a heads up because other reactors become very confused from episode 3 and onwards haha

Yeah just in case you weren’t sure, the person who sacrificed his body up to Weiwuxian is Mo xuanyu, a former member of the Jin clan and that’s the body he’s in. That’s why everyone thinks he’s the Mo guy and calls him master Mo, at least initially. The common folk still call him Weiwuxian, (which is his courtesy/formal name) or the Yiling patriarch, (his cool title), and those close to him can call him Wei ying. Everyone important has like 3 names, their cool title, their courtesy name and their name name. Anyways, loving the reaction haha

Yeah, they toss a whole lotta info at you in these first two episodes. Mo Xuanyu sacrificed himself to summon Wei Wuxian back from the dead. Wuxian takes over his body, so everyone believes he is still Mo Xuanyu, the crazy bisexual who tries to seduce everyone and is also a bastard son of the past Jin clan leader (Gold robes - Jin Ling's grandfather - so in this body, he's Jin Ling's half-uncle). Wuxian is going to try and keep that a secret, since he was pretty hated when he died. But from this point on until the end of this first season, we'll be seeing him in the past in his original body (for the sake of us viewers, Mo Xuanyu and Wei Wuxian look almost exactly alike and always wear black and red).
