You know, I'm sorry MO&B; I've been loving your reviews of this series so far, and have agreed with you for the most part. But here, I have to disagree with you: I actually really liked this episode. I'm not one to gush over nostalgia, but it was kinda refreshing to see the open bogie trucks from Henry's Forest as well as a wider array of trucks in general. I particularly fell in love with the calliope truck (pity we'll never see it again). And I found the music in this episode to be quite good.
Thomas popped a piston when he nearly killed those two workmen in Wonky Whistle-LOL! As for the calliope playing the classic theme, I was actually in shock when I first saw the episode and it was awesome to hear it after so many years. But I'm sure that was the only thing about the episode that people went all gung-ho about like the Troublesome Trucks having faces again or the narrow gauge engines returning.
Not to mention, Awdry himself was careful to make sure that it was shown that Diesels and Steami...err I mean steamers were capable of working together so that's good ands Diesel's in character. Plus, we actually learn a good vocabulary word. Honestly, MOAB, you are the only one I know who hates this episode!!! Also, I think you misunderstood the moral. The moral is that just because its old doesn't mean its useless which actually brings back nostalgia to Seasons 1 through 4
Just a few nitpicks notebox. 1.) Just because Steamies and Diesels work together doesn't mean they're friends or Foes, TFC could just be ordered to take the train to the Scrap/Smelters Yard. 2.) Diesel wasn't really being "friendly" towards to Duchess, as opposed to... say... RESPECTFUL. 3.) Steam Engines do need to refill on coal and water regularly. Think of it this way, if Percy didn't get any water, he could've "run dry" causing a boiler explosion. That's speaking in REAL RW terms.
@donaldengine9 4.) Percy didn't expect the coupling to snap, and for the truck to fall down the hill. 5.) It's called "steam pressure" that makes the whistle have a different pitch. It's happened before MANY, MANY times on the actual railway. Maybe you need to watch the episodes in a more positive aspect instead of thinking "OH S16 IS BULLSHIT, I HATE HATE HATE HATE IT, BLAHBLAHBLAH" Just a few things. :)
Not quite familiar with ponies, but I did a research in the topic, and made up a civilized, yet, strong rebuttal to the argument of those certain parties who claim Derpy is insulting. I've also sent a note to Ms. Faust, requesting her help, on DeviantArt. You can count on me, lad!
would it be wrong to say steamies and diesels have a love/hate relationship, they can get along the it's just that have that natural rivalry of whose better, and how the hell did Percy back up without driver ? as to Percy's whistle, it was full of coal dust then he cleared it realizing he had to clear up the callipe too,
