For centuries, the greatest sailors in the world masterfully navigated the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, 3,000 years ago, their voyages stopped for a millennium - and no one knows exactly why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana (voice of Auliʻi Cravalho) convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. meh, it follows the super repetitive disney narrative: girl lives secluded life. meets guy who veiws things differently. work together, but guy has selfish goals. eventually leaves those goals behind and reveals backstory. girl and guy separate due to misunderstanding/argument. get back together and ahcieve the girls initial goal.

It’s on purpose I think. They animate based on the mannerisms when the cast record their dialogue. So even if the character doesn’t physically look like their voice actor, they likely do things he/she would do. I think Belle tucks her hair aside because Paige O’Hara did too.

There is a live action version in the works. Along with an animated sequel Moana 2. But Aulii won't be doing the live action version because she has been ridiculed into believing her skin tone is not dark enough. And she doesn't accurately represent the character / culture of Moana. This comes from our current culture. They have her believing this. Not sure if she is doing the animated Moana 2 even. A lot of this current culture stuff has gone too far.

Yeah man, I really really like her, not least of all because the entire movie is about the culture she grew up with. Being able to sing her own songs as well is just the crowning glory. I have such high hopes for this movie when I get to watch it. More so than I had with Frozen, whose nature and theme was based on my own country :)

So lots of comments about the voice actors - rightfully so…but can we also appreciate the absolute obsessive nature of the “behind the scenes” writers/directors and artists. They’re sitting in a room talking about the position of a character’s hand…and the painstaking rendition of each strand of hair or eye movement. Absolutely incredible but so appreciative of all the work that goes into cinema like this.

They most likely made the song for his voice. Notice how he's sticking to just a few tones. With a bit of training, anyone can do that. It sounds good because it was made for him. It's as simple as that. If you can't change the voice, then change the song.

I hate to admit it, but watching Jemaine Clement sing Shiny, I just kind of sat and watched in complete awe. Not only because I love his singing voice but because his facial expressions, if you were to take away the audio, just look like he's talking normally, yet this powerful voice is coming out of it which confuses me. I also really love the power in Dwayne Johnson's singing voice as well. All of the songs are pretty great though.

moana's grandmother is the best character and the voice actress is amazing. that character really makes the tears pour. when she gives moana a pep talk during "where you are" and they start dancing it always makes me teary eyed its not even sad its just beautiful. her raspy voice is so beautiful.
