This is very helpful. Thank you. I just underwent quantuppel bypass. 46 years old. This is day 3 after the surgery.

I was just discharged from the hospital for heart surgery and was sent to a homeless shelter and they were going to help me get on benefits for a better living start and then they decided to start me going to health care provider so I'm only two months away from the hospital release date and I have to change my address from Utah to traveling home to California what advice do you have for me

These techniques are used after a surgery where the sternum (breastbone) is cut to allow the chest to be opened up. After surgery, the sternum is wired back together but it takes 6-8 weeks for the bone to fully heal. It is commonly used for open heart surgery but might be used for other types of chest surgery or chest trauma.

I’m shocked at the advice given for the nurses to manually handle the patient in ways that are extremely unsafe for the nurse. No consideration for the risk of back injury to staff at all.

I'm sure there's a specific course that the nurses do to lift heavy and uncomfortable loads. This is not about the nurses, this is about cardio thoracic surgery patients.

@@Renoster-p1h you know back and shoulder injuries are incredibly common in nurses because they put their own bodies on the line doing unsafe manual handling for their patients. I am a nurse and yes we do courses on manual handling - the manoeuvres in this vid are not safe and not what we get taught. Even with the education we still have to perform unsafe manual handling on a daily basis. How selfish of you to not care for the health of the peoples caring for you. Good luck getting better from your cardiothoracic surgery without skilled nurses. Bet you didn’t even thank the nurses who cared for you.
