I am absolutely amazed at how beautiful this is! In my life I have never even heard of Mochila crocheting and I can't wait to start with a project like this
Thank you If you have Facebook, you can join my group, Mochila Style Crochet. In this group we have a beginner bag pattern and explanation of the technique.
Been crocheting for 50+yrs. Never have I seen the beauty of this woman s work. Doily is hard because of the small size now that I am 63. Love the sound of Marion s voice.
I'm yet another fan of your beautiful work and hold my yarn the same way. I've purchased one of your patterns and ordered the yarn for it... so excited to try this lovely technique. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us, Marion! 💙🧶💙
Thank you so much for sharing your art. You really have talent to explain in simple and effective way. I love following your work and I'm so grateful for your videos. Merci Marion !
This is great! I just crochet my first wayuu style bag and your video answers so many questions I had. Now I know what I want to change next time... Choosing a smaller hook, crocheting in the back loop and so on. Thank you for your videos!
Thank you Marion for showing us your technique!!! Thins are starting to make sense now! I've been trying to do this with patterns and paper, but watching you and how you do it is so much better
@@geethasrinivasan59 I don't speak Tamil, but you can pop my comment into Google Translate. It's not perfect, but it helps me a lot when trying to figure out things at work in other languages :D
I have successfully finished a Mochila pattern. I have just subscribed toi your channel. My project is warping badly. I am just beginning to learn this art and used size 10 thread doubled and a size 3 steel crochet hook. I plan on investing in better thread but not until I can make a nice looking piece. Can you advise me on the warping problem. I am 80 and on a pension so I need to be sure I can master this before investing. Your channel is the most informative and easy to follow instructional I have found. Thanking you in advance for your reply to my problem. Bonnie Zamora
Bonnie Zamora I am glad my videos are helping you. I always use mercerized cotton yarn, 125 meter per 50 gram with a 2 mm hook. I am not sure if you hook size is in mm. For the bottom most people need 10 or 12 increases. How many times did you increase? Do you have Facebook? I have a group about Mochila, it is called Mochila bags, crochet. In this group we have a beginner bag and many other patterns. I also have a few patterns for sale on Ravelry. Maybe my coaster pattern is a nice place to start.
Ignore anyone who says you're wasting yarn. To me, cutting & attaching yarn on certain projects would be the yarn waster; not by leaving them attached. Do you happen to have a video on how something like this is started? I'd like to give this a try in the future.
Cometmoon In this video I show how to start, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JKOUq5OVihU.html. Do you have Facebook? I have a Facebook group about Mochila, Mochila bags, crochet. In this group we have all information needed to learn how to make a Mochila. We also have a pattern for a beginner bag.
Beautiful work my dear. The colours are striking. Thank you so much for sharing your art with us, it is very much appreciated. Sherie Rodrigues from Australia.
Thank you very much for your experience and knowledge. I enjoy watching your tutorials. Your work is magnificent, absolutely beautiful. I have been interested in this technique for a long time and am just now getting into it. I would like to know about the ring on your thumb. Can you tell me about it? ... Oh my goodness ... you just answered the ring question.
I increases 12 times each round. Some people only need 10 increases to make a flat and firm bottom. How many increases you will need is trail and error. The placement of the increases depends on the pattern. Do you have Facebook? If yes, you can join my group, facebook.com/groups/299164860428738/?ref=share_group_link. In our files you can find all information needed to learn how to make a Mochila, including a beginner bag.
Marion Verloop i have just sent request 😊 i sent it before it hasnt beenk accepted😕i dint know why.thank you very much i really need much more information about mochilas.
I tried to make a bottom with 8 increases. I'm only 8 rounds in and it's already shaping up like a dome. Should I try 10 increases instead, or am I just pulling and modelling too tightly?
Rose-Marie de Koning There are not many people that can make a flat and firm bottom with only 8 increases. If it is cupping just a little, then try 10 increases. If it is cupping badly, then try 12 increases.
rochele rubin De ring is inderdaad een speciale ring. Het zorgt ervoor dat mijn duim niet 90 graden de verkeerde kant op buigt. De ring heet een silversplint. Mijn ring is gemaakt door Wedesign. www.silversplints.com
but the catania Garn is so expensive , how much would the hole basket cost ? I 'm working with Catania too, but i ' m making just mandalas. I want to learn zu mochila technique anyway !
For a Mochila bag you need about 10 to 12 skeins. The price of this yarns differs per country. I pay € 2,25 per skein. There are more good brands for mochila, maybe some of the following brands are cheaper where you live. Scheepjes Catona, Camilla ice yarn, Pro Lana cotton, Gründle quick, phildar cotton 3.
I know what you mean about your hands not allowing you to work as much or as long as you would like at one time. I have to take many breaks in both crochet & knit projects. But your work is lovely & very well explained by you. Thank you so much. Can you tell me what language some of the comments are in? This seems like a Native American or Alaskan style work. Am I wrong?
rustydip1 Thanks for the compliment. The comments are in Dutch, English, Spanish and Portuguese I think. Google translate is very helpful 😃 Originally these bags are made in Columbia. The Wayuu tribe makes them.
You need about 10 to 12 skeins, mercerized cotton yarn, 125 meter per 50 gram and a 2 mm hook. Good brands are, Schachenmayr Catania, Scheepjes Catona, Camilla ice yarn, Phill cotton 3.
Lorianne Palmer You have to look at the pattern and see where it is best to make the increases, so the pattern will look good. I explain where to place the increases in this video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7QsJqfme9ts.html. In my Facebook group, Mochila bags crochet, we have many bottom patterns where the increases are marked. In the group you can always ask me to mark increases for you.
Great.lesson! I have a doubt... working with 5 colors I feel that the mochila will come out too heavy and too thick, I mean, not flexible enough to be used like a hand bag to put some staff inside. Of course that Im supposing that for what I see at the screen and probably the thread is not as heavy as it looks. Could you tell me the closest ref number or the ply used?
Fanny Moreno A Mochila needs to be firm, otherwise it won’t hold its shape when you put your stuff in it. A normal size Mochila will way about 500 gram. I do not use the word ply, because it means different things between brands and countries. I use mercerized cotton yarn (not thread) 125 meter per 50 gram. Good brands are Schachenmayr Catania, Scheepjes Catona, Camilla ice yarn, Patons Grace
That's is an unusual thumb ring. Is it decorative or does it serve a purpose? Wondering because I get trigger thumb when I crochet and thought this might help me.
Kathy Heil the ring is called a Silversplint. It prevents my thumb from bending 90 degrees the wrong way. They are also used for rheumatism and trigger finger. I got mine from Wedesign in the Netherlands. Their site is also in English.
Yes I have checked in the US. Thank you. Didn't realize they would be so expensive but if it does the job it's worth it. Looking forward to making one of these beautiful bags. Thanks for your videos.
Shirlene Hatton Unfortunately ply can mean different things per country, that is why I always look at meters per 50 gram. I use mercerized cotton yarn, 125 meter per 50 gram.
Hello... Can I change every single crochet with half crochet stitch? Is it okay 😊? Because almost all tapestry crochet is made with single crochet? Thank you.
vico ris Do you mean half double crochet stitch? A half double crochet stitch is higher than a single crochet stitch. This would stretch the pattern. That will make all patterns look totally different, because Mochila patterns are based on single crochet. I don’t know if you would be able to keep the bottom flat with half double crochet. You probably would have to adjust the number of increases.
@@MarionVerloop yes I mean half double crochet. It is just my idea because my yarn is too small 😁 and I feel very long time when I make a bag with single crochet stitch. Well, now I understand with ur explaination. Mochila must be with single crochet. It is true with single crochet is more suitable and pretty than with half or double crochet stitch. And need to be patient. So I will change with big yarn. Thank you so much. It is my fist time to learn mochila.
@@MarionVerloop Marion Verloop oh I see. I believe it take an hour for one row, more over me maybe take more 1 hour 😂. I still learn changing color. I am very lucky founding ur channel. Thank u so much 🙏. I using local yarn. It is soft cotton big ply (16 strand) with hook number 4. In Indonesia the cotton yarn is almost small (hook number 1-2 or 2-3) And now there is cotton big plg but suit for hook number 4. Not ok with number 5. I'm curious about the yarn you are use, or what yarn is suits for tapestry bag?
vico ris Do you have Facebook? There is an Indonesian group about Mochila. The name is Mochila, ply split braiding dan Kumihimo Indonesia. The administrator of that group uses poly yarn, poly cherry, poly apple, poly anggur. I was in Indonesia in March. I visited a nice yarn shop on Java, in Tangerang. Unfortunately she did not sell the recommended cotton, but it was a really nice shop. I use mercerized cotton yarn, 125 meter per 50 gram, with a 2 mm hook. Good brands are Schachenmayr Catania, Scheepjes Catona, Camilla Ice yarn. I also have a facebook group, Mochila bags, crochet I am glad the videos are helping you.
Marion m chrocheting my bag with dark colors of yarn n m worried about my bag strap so plese help me n guide me i want to weave strip for my bag so it wil defintly give a good look
Thank you for your vidéos , i have a question ? , how do you make your Botton of mochilas so rigid, I tried everything cotton, acrylic ... and I hook with 2.5mm.. thank's for your answer .. from belgium 😊
Betty Boop I use 100% mercerized cotton. Schachenmayr Catania is my favorite. I crochet with a 2 mm hook. I crochet tight. I increase 12 times each rounds. This makes the stitches come close together. Most people get the best result with 10 increases. Some with 8 or 12.
Anupa Nayak, an increase is when you crochet more than one stitch into the loop, *increasing* the number of stitches in the project overall. It's often used when making circular projects because if you don't increase, the project will fold up like a bowl instead of staying flat like a plate. Definitely look it up and learn how to do it. Increasing is a big part of crocheting, as is decreasing (which is when you *decrease* the number of stitches in the project).
I want to ask u how you did the base of the bag “circle shape” without is turning inside I mean I could not make it flat 💔so sad I repeat my work more than once .. the same result .. please advice me
Marion Verloop I could not understand you ! How to make 12 increases if I have 8 SC in the magic ring ? It will be 8 increases that result to 16 sts . Can you explain the increases in written pattern. 💓
b azan Most patterns can be divided in 8 equal parts. Take 1/8th of the pattern and repeat that part 10 or 12 times. If you have a Facebook account, you can join the group Mochila bags, crochet. In this group we have a beginner bag with written instructions for 8, 10 and 12 increases.
I design my own 😊 I have them for sell on Ravelry, www.ravelry.com/designers/marion-verloop You can also find many free patterns on my Facebook group, mochila bags, crochet.
I’m looking for the full set of videos on how to make this particular bag- but can’t seem to find all- only this one and one other- I want to actually make one- please help- this bag is beautiful and if I can make it in time- would make a great Christmas gift!!
Lisa Jarvis The pattern for this bag is for sale on Ravelry, it is called Mochila Feather. I do not have videos for a whole bag. I make short videos where I explain parts of the Mochila technique. In this video I show the basics of the Mochila technique.
Sonia Bethancourt Sorry for the late response, I did not see your question before. You can buy the pattern here, www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mochila-feather.
I'm on making the strap for this bag but am confused about how many chains to make. I have 23 stitches in the 4 in swatch and want the strap to be about 2 ft long. Can anyone tell me how many chains to start with?
Sam Renee The ring is actually a brace. Without the ring my thumb bents 90 degrees the wrong way. The ring is called a silver splint, it is custom made.
No I do not have a book. I do have a few patterns for sale on Ravelry, www.ravelry.com/designers/marion-verloop. I also have a website, marionverloop.com. And I have a Facebook group about Mochila, Mochila bags, crochet. In this group you can find all information needed to learn how to make a Mochila, including a beginner bag and two cal’s.
Rasha Hashlh If you crochet through both loops the pattern will slant. If you crochet through back loop only the pattern will be straight. With the bottom it is important to place the increases in the right place. If you make increases against a line, you will push the line away.
Thank you for your reply Highly grateful for your concern I am practicing my first piece in the tapestry technique, It's jouful. I made the base as cloured circles once I worked the upper part of the bag where there is no increase, working spiral not line by line, I noticed the shape is tilted, I even tried to work in the back loop in a small part you think that will be treated if the whole piece was done in the back loop?
Hi, I have the same problem with my thumb bending 90 degrees the wrong way. What is that ring called and where can I buy it from please? I also do my tension the same as you. I never did understand why most people have their index finger pointing up! It feels uncomfortable to me.
Toni Nairn The ring is called a Silver splint. They are hand made for each person. Size has to be exactly right. I got mine from a Dutch company called We Design. Their site is also in English. Funny that we have the same way of holding the yarn.
Marion Verloop thank you for that! I shall definitely look into it. I never knew they existed! And yes, you're the first crocheter i have seen that holds it like me 😀
Jammin Jammies I design my own patterns. I have some for sale on Ravelry. You can find many patterns on Pinterest and in the Facebook group, Mochila bags crochet.
