In order to keep our recommendations up to date, we maintain a 'Buyer's Guide' (with a wide spectrum of models, and a lot of technical and lifestyle-related information). Organizing our recommendations this way makes it easier to include good models that we haven't made review-videos for yet, as well as to remove models which have developed unforeseen wear-issues over time, or which have been weakened by the manufacturer in their current iterations. You can access the guide (in addition to our 4-part video series on Choosing the Right Stroller for your Lifestyle, and other helpful content) on Patreon: / stroller-buyers-37953864

In this video we follow up on our previous video expressing concerns about the Mockingbird stroller in order to discuss the current situation whereby several parents have had dangerous accidents with the model breaking during use, Consumer’s Report has called for a product-recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched an investigation, and Mockingbird have publicly responded with a statement, that they believe these are ‘rare isolated instances’, and they will not be halting sales. It is my opinion based on our experience with many years of stroller repair, that this is a design-issue and that a recall is necessary. If you agree after watching this video, please spread the word!

As a stroller collector/restorer/repair person myself, I really felt a sense of horror when the report was read about the stroller breaking while children were being strolled across a busy intersection in it. I worked as a Mechanical Designer up until retirement and familiar with stress points. Just looking at the stroller's frame I can see that joint is taking a lot of stress standing still from the dead weight load of two children alone without even considering the jolts experienced while in motion over rough surfaces.

Just because something is popular, doesn’t make it quality. I was considering this stroller, but one too many videos & reviews gave me a bad feeling about using this as a double. So glad I am looking into other options, even if they cost a lot more. The materials used in making these does matter, especially when lugging two kiddos around (in my case an infant + a chunky toddler)!

So glad I purchased the uppababy v2. It didn’t make sense that the mockingbird was cheaper without quality diminishing.

My toddler has used the single Mockingbird for his entire life (17mo) and I have loved everything about it except the sun canopy. I had buyers remorse for getting the single rather than “future planning” with the double, but now I’m so relieved. I’ll probably get a Bugaboo Donkey when the next baby arrives. Unless a nicer side by side comes out, of course. No tandems for us!

I found this video when googling after our Mockingbird snapped in half on Saturday with both kids inside. The failure point was the exact connection you describe, and our daughter came an inch away from hitting her face full-force on the pavement. Still in shock and figuring out what to do, but clearly they need to recall this at least in the two-seat configuration.

That is awful. I’m glad she wasn’t hurt. They are replacing any broken strollers right away. Although, after that happened I don’t know if I would even want the replacement. Mockingbird did say they have never received any reports of the original mockingbird snapping in half so maybe if they replaced with that? This stroller was one I’ve been really interested in, but the reports are so scary.

Literally the same thing happened to me yesterday. Terrifying wasn't it?! I'm waiting to hear back from Mockingbird but as we were out of town when this happened, I put the whole thing in the bin. Goodbye Mockingbird!

My wife and I are expecting our first within the next three weeks or so. We had several very well intentioned friends recommend the Mockingbird to us, and we had highly considered it at first. Either that or a Graco. We liked the price point and such but then after doing some searching and watching plenty of videos we found that we couldn’t justify going with a cheaper stroller/travel system. The safety of our future children is too important. We eventually decided to go ahead and invest in the Vista V2. I may have to send this video to my friends who are using the Mockingbird, especially since they are planning on using it as a 2 baby stroller.

Same here! My husband and I were iffy about the investment into the V2 but if the extra money buys safety it’s worth it. Expecting our first and hope for a second in a couple years. Would you say it was worth it for you guys?

Yep. Mine cracked in half yesterday with my toddler (3yo) and infant (1yo). The infant fell in his seat to the pavement and hit his head. He's unscathed thankfully but I shudder to think what would have happened if the stroller broke while I was crossing the intersection instead of moments later when I was on the sidewalk. I'm concerned they are still selling this stroller as well. Thank you so much for your video. I wish I had seen it before purchasing my single to double stroller.

I get it...high end strollers are expensive and not everybody has the 1200 bucks for a Vista. But at least go for a Babyjogger City Select or a Cybex Gazelle? Both of which (I hope) are at least sturdy enough to not break by simply being looked at. The Mockingbird feels like a post-umbrella-stroller-era structural nightmare 😂

Hi. I’m one of the moms who this happened to, and whose photos feature heavily in this video. I get why that may be the sentiment, but I do want to stress that from my POV as a parent, regardless if budget, one has an expectation of a baseline standard of safety where baby gear is concerned. Should parents who can only afford budget models expect hazardous design and potentially deadly outcomes…? I think we’d agree that no, that would be a cruel assessment - same as we don’t say the guy who bought a Toyota instead of a Maserati deserves to get injured or die in an accident, right? Personally speaking, I did try the Uppababy that everyone seems so enamored with despite the high price tag, and found it to simply not be a fit for me and my family configurations-wise (Rumble seat limitations and having to place the infant on the bottom), fold-wise or weight/size wise. Our approach really shouldn’t be that people with more limited pockets should not be entitled to minimal safety standards - companies should do better.
@Marina-zb2iz
@Marina-zb2iz Год назад
@@ealealginott Absolutely agree! The Mockingbird poses a safety hazard, which is inexcusable regardless of its price tag. The company needs to be held accountable and at least needs to be called out on the poor quality and the dangers that come with their product. However, this was never the point of my initial comment. The Mockingbird is obviously poorly constructed for its ultimate purpose of transporting several children at once, and as a dedicated follower of this channel, I now completely understand why. But there are other strollers from other manufacturers (which offer similar features as the MBird) that didn't get the best reviews from the Stroller Workshop but which are within the same lower to middle price range as the Mockingbird. I feel like they need to be judged as such and not compared to higher end models. If a Cybex Gazelle (or the Babyjogger, among others) can transport two children safely(!) without posing safety hazards due to a way sturdier build, then those ARE alternatives for those looking for something reliable in a lower price range. My point is that I get the basic message of this channel: Buy quality, and choose carefully according to your needs. Budgets differ, so everyone needs to choose the best option for them. The Mockingbird, however, is neither quality, nor is it a good mid-price option, and other models within that frame outshine it by far.
@relrel101
@relrel101 Год назад
@@Marina-zb2iz You do realize that there were only 0.09% of strollers effected right? To question the quality of the entire stroller seems to be a stretch. Plus not all doubles are recalled so it sounds more like a specific manufacturer issue. Considering Cybex is $899 and Baby Joggers still priced higher and are more rugged looking than luxury; I think MB has found a nice middle ground. Time will tell but based on their customer service and all the happy families, I don’t think they’re going away anytime soon.

You mention using the Mockingbird as a single child stroller and not being sold; What are your concerns when in single mode?
@BarnevognverkstedNo
@BarnevognverkstedNo Год назад
Hi :) Before answering, let me first say that the breaking-issues shown in this video with the single-to-double model are unlikely to occur with the single model (and my criticisms of the hinged handle mechanism in our original Mockingbird video are also less of a problem since the single model has less front weight). That being said, my understanding from talking with people who've owned this stroller and from reading criticisms online is that the suspension is quite poor, which then doesn't really justify the higher weight and size of the model (since the terrain capability is then limited). In addition, I don’t really buy the ‘DTC lets us sell a premium stroller cheaper’ concept, which makes me question the manufacturing quality relative to price.
@relrel101
@relrel101 Год назад
@@BarnevognverkstedNo Thank you for responding! I have the double but my kids prefer single mode with the ride-along-board so I wanted your input on single mode. The suspension feels great walking around town but hopefully you can finally get one in your shop and do a deep assessment! Keep up the great content :)
