Hello! I've been following this channel for some time and am ecstatic to see my mod featured here! You are very kind - comparing my work to be on par with a real expansion pack is the highest praise. Hats off to you Sonny Jim :)

It has so many little Easter Eggs too. The level of detail is insane; and the kindness of the man who made it too.

I'd pay at minimum $10 for this on steam, quality mod work like this should be rewarded especially if its from indie devs or DIY modders. It might be short but you can tell there was a hell of a lot of effort spent to make this.

So after playing Half Life: Echoes and seeing just how good it really is, I went and played alot of other renowned half life singleplayer mods. They're mostly shit in comparison to Echoes. Echoes is just polished to a T. And I loved how they used the Garganchua. Its one of the best implementations of a nemesis since resident evil 3.

I think we need to pay up the guy who made this mod.

I'm always interested in stuff that goes back to Black Mesa. All the additional stuff we found out in Portal and how ridiculously labyrinthian the place seemed fascinated me. Oh, and reminded me of the place from A Cabin in the Woods.

I never kill Houndeyes when I play Half Life games. They're just too cute and they were originally meant to be befriended but playtesters would kill them anyway, Valve playtesters ruin everything. They're fairly harmless since they stand still to charge their AOE attack giving you plenty of time to run away and it doesn't do too much damage anyway. Also you can just shoot them once with the pistol to knock them out of their charging attempt if you really need to preserve health that badly. No need to kill them at all.

Echoes is the best quality non-retail single player mod I've seen in 20 years of playing HL. The speeding tram at 8:40 still makes me laugh

not mentioned: the excellent humor and immersive horror, the easter eggs, the inventive use of NPCs and puzzles, and really good story.

Damn, this looks insanely good, just those environments and scripted sequences had to take ages to make...

At least the release of the HL2E3 story by Leidlaw opened some doors for fan projects to interpret and make it in the form of mods. I mean if Valve let Hunt Down the Freeman and that Nova Prospekt game exist then I doubt they'll cancel those.

As someone who loves FPS games but doesnt have my ear to the ground for these things and misses a load gems, I appreciate your channel so much mate! For both making me aware of cool games like this as well as being my reference point to see if any FPS's I see out in the wild (to see if there worth my time) - you and your channel are a truely awesome resouce! Thanks for taking the time and making these vids so awesome mate, its hella appreciated!

that map creator is really good. Besides all the scripting and original content, just the consistency, putting ramps next to all the stairs.

A mod i hope you review someday is MetaDoom, which even had a big update weeks ago. It's not perfect, but it might be the best tribute and love letter you could ever do to Doom. Some of the easter eggs and details are neat.

I'm pretty sure you play as a security guard in this. It just sorta fits the whole "good at shooting, wears body armor" deal... Though you start without a gun. Could go either way.

Damn, this mod looks pretty legit.

It's a big compliment to make but *I actually like this more than HL1.* The detailed scripted sequences were epic and ambitious, the level design managed to accomplish looking great *and* playing to the strengths of the engine and the AI you were fighting, to the point the soldiers and other enemies *felt smarter* just because they were given more opportunities to use their AI. Whether you agree with that assessment or not, it's an absolute must-play. It feels like it belongs alongside the other HL1 content packs like Opposing Force and Blue Shift.

I downloaded the .EXE instead of the ZIP file and this being my first MOD that I downloaded it was easy! Like two clicks and I was ready to play the game. Thank you Gggmanlives I always loved HALF-LIFE and without your review on this MOD I probably would of missed it. This MOD is like an extra expansion of HALF-LIFE series.

The protagonist in this is the most BADASS Black Mesa scientist I've ever seen

The moment at 5:24 where 2004 downsampled Gman rotates the playermodel with no leg movement at all, and does a HL Gman animation is fucking creepy

This is my favourite _Half-Life_ mod. I enjoy it even more than _Opposing Force_ and _Blue Shift._ It's so good that I sent James Coburn some money on PayPal just as a donation/thankyou for doing it. I have _never_ once done that before. The mod is _that_ good.

Half life echos also introduces two cut enemies: Mr Friendly and King Pin.

I can say without any hyperbole that I've played practically every Half-Life mod release over the last 12 years, and Half-Life: Echoes is up there in being one of the most highly detailed and elaborate one-man efforts ever. Not just for Half-Life, but Half-life 2 and modding in general. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I yelped "HOLY HELL" at a scripted event, they are out of this world and considering the engine they are running on, I'm stunned he managed to pull it off!

This looks like a proper expanson that could have featured Dr Kliner as the protagonist :D

There is a creepy easter egg that I will post later (Never used recording software) the developer made one of the scientist that is in the first 10 mins where if you push him or make him walk a far distant towards the other entrance he say's, FREEMAN like 5-8 times and every time it's more in slow motion then it turns into the alien zen voice of the one eye alien then he coughs and say's excuse me. That voice transition really creep me out. I hopefully will find more easter eggs.

I just played this, and it's pretty damn amazing. I only had it crash once when you find a scientist with a shotgun hiding in the bathroom the first time.

I just finished this mod myself. The amount of detail and polish the dev put into it, even as a GoldSource mod, is on such a level that "Hunt Down the Freeman" is outed as even more embarrassing for how wanting it is by comparison. It's like trying to hold a wet matchstick to a floodlight.

Half Life 3 is confirmed now so you can be happy

Hearing about this mod makes me wish I'd made a mind series in it instead of Residual Life and Residual Point. Can't go back now.

Man, when that thing kicked the concrete barrier at you I jumped. It's a grasp of environmental interaction you just don't see very often.

This is a mod I liked for the surroundings and how it looks/looked like a real workspace.

I think the best thing about echoes is that barney has a HEV suit with a black helmet AND ALSO A COLT HES EPIC
