To answer your questions: 1. That distinction is a good one, as I think ROM hacks could still exist outside of their original form. Some ROM hacks on the N64 for example need the expansion pack to work properly while the original game does not (i.e. Smash Remix). However, emulation could still count as an original form for the ROM to be played on, so there's an argument to be made there. 2. That's a tough question, but I would think not since it is still modifying the ROM and the original game was still stored on said ROM. 3. By referring to the 6th and 7th generations of consoles, you would be talking about consoles like the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360, which do still store games in a cd/dvd rom. However, I'm going to assume you meant games for PS5 and Xbox series. It depends on the game, but as a general rule of thumb, if the game in question is stored via a disk, it's likely on a ROM. If you get it on the Playstation/Microsoft stores, it's likely not a ROM but a standalone program. Hope that answers your questions! Thanks for watching!

​@@goofydudeguya Thank you! Just some clarificiation on my third question: I was actually referring to installing games to harddisk. The PS2 had some novel online-enabled games but the PS3 does install your game data from the disc into the disk. So my question would then be aimed at mods/hacks on PS3 games that modify the game on the harddisk, no longer on the disc. I pretty much agree with the rest of your answers, cheers!

@@faradise3819 That's actually a very interesting case. Since the modification doesn't actually happen to the disc and instead on the hard drive or complimentary storage device, that would be a mod, not a rom hack. (This would also apply to memory cards, flash drives, etc.) It would be considered a rom hack if the game itself was stored on the complimentary storage device, but since it's stored on the game disc, that is not the case.
