Enjoy your time with your daughter(s). We used to have one of the aluminum trees with the color wheel; great memories. I also love the old time Santa. You will do great on the pixel quilt since you are approaching it with plans to read the pattern and follow it step-by-step. I agree that it would be stressful to try and do a video of cutting it out. That is a time that you really want to be able to focus. I truly enjoy your videos and, being 76, it does my heart good to see young women like yourself so immersed in quilting. Happy quilting………….
I'm doing a pixel quilt with over 3,700 pieces at 1.5" yikes! I highly recommend cutting each color one at a time and bag it up with a clear label. Each of my colors has a letter associated to it, so I've labeled the Kona color name and what letter it is. I got this Lori Holt card boxes free from FQS several months ago with purchase and they are perfect for my sandwich baggies full of cut pieces and they have alphabet dividers already it makes it simple and keeps my project so neat. I recommend doing one block at a time as well. I'm no expert and have only for the first row so far, but I thought I'd chime in. There's also a 1.5" fusible quiltsmart interfacing you could try if you're concerned with tiny piecing, but that can get expensive. A "Y" seam is a partial seam where you don't sew all the way to the edge and come back later to sew the first edge... it's a pain, and if you follow the pattern markings you won't have these. I didn't do that in my first block, being all eager and had to rip seams ugh! I wish you lots of luck and just hang in there you can make it!!! Linda G
Thank you so much for all your advice/wisdom! I am definitely planning on cutting one color at a time and then separating that color according to block and number. I’ll look into that card box you’re talking about. I’m giving myself a good month to get all my pieces cut and organized. I don’t want to rush this and have a huge mess. I’m excited and nervous lol
I had the sew sampler for 2 years. Just switched to Lori Holt FQ Club May excited. I figured I would keep Lori’s for a few months and maybe switch to Moda in a few months. I ordered a couple of Moda scrap bags from an Etsy as an add on to my order. I was surprised. One was all Love Note by Lella Boutique and the other was Create by Alli K. I don’t think I replied on other video but I am open to a live convo. Sounds like a great idea. Do you participate in Sherri McConnell’s A Quilting Life BOM? It’s always really good and this year there is a bigger block option (less borders 😁). I have some topics ideas for the live chat but unsure how to get them to you.
You can always email me! Lauren_Weaver85@yahoo.com. I’ll look into that BOM! I’m always up for those. I’m thinking of switching to another fat quarter monthly bundle after a bit, but I’m loving the Moda one.
Y seams are not hard just frustrating. You do one seam leaving the last portion unsewn. Then you sew another seam and do the same. Once you have all the pieces sewn you then match up the seams and finish it. Not sure I explained it right but there are videos
