There are some finer points about these that I am interested in: adding sons in law to the starting family did not work for me when I first tried it a few weeks ago (that is, for example, if you want Flavius Julius to have a daughter at the beginning and you want her to start out married to someone). This is very helpful for roleplaying the participation of several branches of your family, such as making the Greek Cities' leaders not all "of Sparta", or making a single Roman faction that has a Julius, Scipio, and a Brutus in it. Also, it looks like there is an indication that starting characters are still living; how do you indicate a starting character who is already dead, in case that would be helpful for roleplay? I know that this exists because I have seen it in historical mods for Medieval 2.

*Beautiful! I always dreamed about leading the Sicilian wars against Rome with Hamilcar Barca and then destroying eternal city by Hannibal himself (with his brothers). Or having Gaius Julius to rampage around Europe.... or Mithridates VI Eupator... or Surenas...* *Problem is: Hannibal was born in 247. BC, Cesar much later.... Can we "program" children's & grandchildren's names and date of birth, Thomas?*

I'm not aware of being able to preset the names of any children born after the game starts, but you could program several generations in descr_strat and preset the grandchild or great grandchild, so long as they were a child at the game's start. If you set them as 1 year old it gives you 30turns untill they come of age. 🙂

I tried this for the Egyptians, still don't know why it failed, but I had to go back to the original save. So when I changed the Brits names I mostly changed the names in the {} in the other file instead and then just added in a few new names.

I haven't been able to find anything on this anywhere. But, for Overhauls for M2TW, in this case, The Elder Scrolls Total War mod, the Cyrodiil Empire has their family tree disabled. No marriages, no births, no "Man of the Hour" events. The only trouble with this, is as you expand, your core lands will have governors, but anything new will not, and there is no way to get new general characters. So, is there a simple way to "re enable" the family tree? I can't find it in the data files, nothing on YT, reddit, or TW forums.

haha, nvm. for any and all who wish to do the same or similar. go to the mods data file. scroll down and look for ' descr_sm_factions ' , Cyrodiil Empire is the first faction in the file, at the bottom of the list on the left hand side, there is a line that says ' has_family_tree ' . There is a parallel list giving responses for the specific faction. simply replace "no" with "yes", and viola, Family Tree enabled.

add -err to the launch command line and when you exit out the game will tell you what errors (if any) happened.

Is there a limit on how many family members one adult can have? I'm trying to give Gaul a new family member but for some reason when adding his name in the list (relatives) the campaign would not start but when I add his name at the very end it works but his family tree is seperated from the main one. This is for Rome Remastered.

I don't think it works for the rebel faction since they aren't a normal faction, they can spawn generals at random from every culture. In Remastered there is an option to give them a functioning familty tree but not sure how that works.

@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH I've played a 4 player hot seat with Spain Dacia,gauls and germans, but some battle are auto resolved without the user knowing about it, that's why I want the 8 player hotseat so I can play as all sides.

Hmmm... I've been doing this for a new Medieval II video actually but it that solution doesn't work for Rome and changing the soldier line crashed everything so I'm not sure off the top of my head. @@ToNerdistoHumanTNH I actually figured it out it was a little tedious trial and error u have to make a new strat Model and paste it into what would be ur new strat models appearance, if this doesn't work u need to add a copy of models_unit into the models_strat folder In the descr_character find the faction ur general belongs to change battle model to the desired unit (easy part) do not change the equip Next go to descr_model_strat copy a strat Model all the way to aged change to desired name then copy prb_txts from the battle model unit Then change ur strat Model to ur new one and vwala

On balance, I'm happier playing the original. Less crashing. But it works the same on remastered hence the little clip in the intro with the example of Sulla. 🙂
