First video of 2023! I built one of the best 75% keyboards out in the market today and I definitely did not regret spending money to acquire this keyboard. Everything about the board is so worth it in my own opinion. I hope ya'll enjoy today's video!
Keyboard Specs:
Mode Sonnet (Green)
Black aluminum bottom and internal weight
Isolated top mount
POM plate
Owlstabs v2
Owlab Neon switches
PBTfans Resonance

The moment he put down the box of the keyboard and realized it was upside-down, he humbly rotated it. the design is very human.

This video was a major inspiration for my Sonnet build. I was having a tough time deciding between top and stack mount, plate material, to foam or not, etc. I don't have a ton of time to tinker, so whatever I chose was going to be it for a good while. Also having a tough time deciding between a couple switches (Neons were already in consideration). This video got me to choose top mount, POM plate, only plate foam, and the Neons. The biggest difference is that I went with the polycarbonate bottom, but my board still sounds so much like yours, and I thank you for that!

I appreciate the kind words! I know what you mean too, whatever I think will be best suited to my liking will be bought and will stay that way for a good while. I'm glad my video helped with your Sonnet build

For this config, is it a big difference without the plate foam? I've tried this exact setup but with a CF plate and I had to use the plate foam and stack mount because it was too pingy and loud. Thinking about the Pom plate but would like to avoid the plate foam if possible.
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead 11 месяцев назад
In my opinion it sounds better with the plate foam only config. It's too clacky if you use long poles such as the neons which are stupid loud. I suggest trying on nixies/non-long poles with your cf + plate foam without the stack mount.

Have you installed the plate fasteners for ISO top mount? It is not shown in the video.
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
Yes I did. I probably should've left it in there. I cut it out to make the video shorter. I left too many stuff in that wasn't needed to be shown which made the video longer :( changes were made moving forward and i believe it's evident in my latest video on the Tiger Lite :)

May I ask why did you not go for a set of ABS keycaps to optimise clack but went for a PBT keycap set instead?
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
It's preference above all things really. This configuration mitigates that "pbt" sound. If there was a "gmk resonance" i would've copped it a long time ago, it's one of my favorites but I guess when my envoy arrives i'll put my modo 2 on this or get a set of nines or mercury to put on the sonnet 😃

Great video! And lovely board. What desk is that?

Thank you! It's an L shaped desk from amazon and i just put a vinyl wrap on it just to change the look of it.

Oh I was literally keen om building a green Sonnet with PBTFans resonance - looks great! What’s that wrist rest though? 👀
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
Thanks! I was just looking for a wooden wrist rest on Amazon back in 2019 when I found and bought this. I forgot the brand name but there's not a lot of wooden wrist rests on there so i'm pretty sure you can fund it easily!

May I ask, what material is the table made of and where did you get it?
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
P2 particle board is the material I believe and i got it secondhand but i found one on home depot for 329 CAD. The concrete finish is just a vinyl wrap just to change the look of it as i had it black for almost two years before the change 😊
@viet6647
@viet6647 Год назад
@@mcclackhead it makes the board sound great as it doesn’t give that thock or thump wooden tables gives. It looks great as well, very clean. That’s why I prefer concrete or stone/marble table tops and I’m looking for one
@mcclackhead

@@viet6647 Actually... I did not mount my mic on my desk while recording for the sound test. It helps isolate the sound of the keyboard from the sound produced from the vibrations coming from the desk to the microphone.

Hi bro. After 2 months of using Neon switches. What do you feel about it ? i heard that the prelubed Neon will be sluggish over time
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
Hello! No problems with my neons at all! Even when i daily drove it for 3 weeks straight and has been in the regular rotation of my keyboards.
@x3LightNinG

it doesnt even make sense, how is it even gonna be sluggisg if its lightly lubed and throughout time

What are your thoughts on the owlab neon switch?
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
They can be great straight out of the box, they sound and feel nice from the get-go but it really shines when lubed. I want to put it on my ikki which has an alu plate and on my tofu that has fr4 to test it. I really feel it's a great all around switch but to hear is to believe so stay tuned!

Awesome build! What's the config/specs for this?
@mcclackhead
@mcclackhead Год назад
Thanks, I appreciate it! It's the grey accent piece and all black aluminum for the bottom and internal weight and I opted for the POM plate. I got the Owlab neon switches and Owlstabs for the stabilizers. It's in the beginning of the sound test near the end of the video too
