Thanks for the video review... Regarding your wife's comment about Texas state parks aren't as large... some Texas state parks are huge... Big Bend Ranch state park in west TX is 311,000 acres. :)
One of the better "real world" EV road trips I've seen, with the dog and everything. The tesla software and network is everything. Last video I saw was a road trip in a Hyundai Ionic EV. EA network was iffy at every every stop. One place was 30 min wait for a charger because there were only two working chargers out of 5 or 6. Also the cost for EV charging was more that what gas would have been. Granted this was in the Northeast part of the country but EA cost were ~50 cents per kw.
With the charging speed of your model 3, you don't need to worry whether it's a level 2 or level 3. You will never get to 250kw, especially if the level 2 charger isn't busy. Just make sure you are not charging at the same letter the other car(s) are at. Out of spec reviews has the best charging videos, especially when they race. Check those out. That is what I follow on my long trips.
Looks like you are still getting great efficiency even when travelling at relatively high speeds. It does appear you have to hustle to get things done when the car charges that fast. I just got my M3 and just now getting a feel for how it does with my local 2 lane highway rural routes. So far I think my Bolt was more efficient for that driving, but will need more miles to sort out the difference and then will start playing spoiler, wheel covers etc. Just need some miles for a baseline now. Hopefully it will pay off on the road trips and main highways. Charging speed differences are going to be shocking as I can see you guys are settling into the Tesla rhythm at the chargers. The Tesla version of drama is just second guessing the route planning and optimizing your stops. The route planner does not appear to be all that intelligent. Buy hey I actually like that part of the road trip anyway so no sweat. LOL
It would seem that the trip planner would see that your taking a different route and automatically reroute your charging stations. Or does it try to send you back the way it wants ? Good job you two 👍
@@SpinnerEV Are you planning on resubscribing to FSD for your Virginia trip? I've seen some really great things with 12.5. Hopefully in the next two months they will implement the highway stack and the city stack together so that the highway driving will take advantage of version 12. Thanks for taking me along on your trip!
You should spend the $100 (plus tax) to get FSD 12.5 for your Virginia trip. The highway experience will only be a little better than what you had before, but the city street performance will be amazing. I have 12.5.1.1 and it is really good everywhere except parking lots and even that is getting better. Poor navigation is the biggest weakness now, not the driving.
