This little thing actually performed way better than I ever imagined, and I have to give Debix / Polyhex credit for creating a very solid product that meets every spec/requirement/expectation!
There are some minor changes I think would improve it, but that's just my personal opinion.
FYI DEBIX is actually an acronym for the range of SBCs created by Polyhex, and originally stemmed from: D-Development;E-Embedded;B-Board;I-Industrial;X-Kits

Really comprehensive video, thanks! (I'm a subscriber - HA) I'm in telecom, so I'd use it as a backup pbx system, for when we get separated from our data centers, in a large retail branch store environment. 1 nic for admin subnet and the other nic would handle real time communications using SIP and RTP. Kamailio and Freeswitch would handle SIP registrar and media services. Neural processor can perform real time transcription of sensitive conversations using whisper or the like. The audio jack would serve as a paging interface connected to the store music system to allow overhead paging. This is the first little board that has all of the elements I've been seeking for this build. A/C often failes in these environments resulting in equipment damage. so another plus here.

Thanks mate and glad to hear! Backup PBX is a great idea, and I expect it's got more than enough performance in it. Using the TSN NIC for SIP and RTP would work well if the rest of the infrastructure supports it. If your vPBX software supports real-time transcription that's awesome. Most of my deployments these days are 3CX, and I don't believe that has any hardware offloading. Good luck!

@@PlatimaTinkers I work in enterprise VoIP with Avaya gear. Great solution, but it's rather expensive to maintain their edge recoverability posture across hundreds of sites. I'm looking for something a little smaller, even if it ends up providing little more than a large intercom system during a dual WAN outage. Starlink may help, too. 🙂 In this ecosystem, voice transcription is a separate application ceded to dev partners.

Temp/gas monitoring in a very remote harsh environment, like at the lip of a volcano. Combine this with solar cells and battery to keep the sbc running continuously. Human visit would probably be every 3 months to access data from the sbc. The low power consumption would fit well with this case use.

It could be useful for hooking up several thermal cameras for intelligent board heating for soldering within an enclosure. So that there's less chance to kill a BGA chip and overheat a board. Maybe also a way to prevent and detect fires and trigger an emergency system to put it out. Maybe even an automatic way to find shorts. Maybe it could also be used within a 3D printer enclosure to check if bed temperature are even as well and that your part isn't getting too hot to the point it will warp as well. On the opposite end of the spectrum, it could used for monitoring pipes and making sure that they don't get cold enough to burst.
@PlatimaTinkers
@PlatimaTinkers Месяц назад
Oooh I like that first idea. USB 2.0 can definitely handle the low data rate of a thermal camera. What would YOU do with it though? :P

Dual gbit lan... might make for a nice LAN router.... Separate wifi connector is probably even advantageous for industry, if you are putting them in a box then you want the device in the box and the antenna outside

I'd use it to run Node-red to capture data from 2 or 3 PLC's on one network and save the data to a MSSQL server on the other network and make that data available over MQTT for a bin level and content display board. I've been trialling this type of setup using a Raspi-3, but not happy with using the Wifi connection for the SQL server side of the connection. Something like this would free up the Raspi-3 to run MyRobotLab on and that can then drive up to 64 20x4 character displays for the bin level using the MQTT protocol over the business network. The business and PLC's network are separate and no routes exist between them for security reasons. I like the idea that this is designed to run for long periods non-stop.
@PlatimaTinkers

That sounds like an excellent use case!

I'd probably use it as an NFS and MOP boot server for a diskless MicroVAX-II I have. I'd assume it would be hell of a lot less power hungry than the Chromebox that I was planning on using.
@PlatimaTinkers

Very fair! Can I ask though, how would this make use of it's embedded nature? Eg the temperature handling, TSN, etc? It won't affect whether or not you get it from my side, but people might not up-vote your suggestion if they don't see the relation! Cheers 😊
