I had commented on this video 1 yr ago, just watched it ago, and had to say again it really is a great example of fusion and 3d printing.

Great video sir! I enjoyed your walk thru the process, and of course you kept it real and showed the trial and errors! Subscribed!

Thanks for the video. I've been fighting the thread tool to try and get an RV hose to fit. Just couldn't make it work. You solution is exactly what I needed and my first use of the coil feature. Excellent.

I really do appreciate showing us the number of prototypes you went through. Glad to see that I'm "normal." And thank you for the video. I've picked up several techniques that I didn't know were available in 360.

Great video with superb explanations ... as always. Indeed, we all have many 'prototypes' for each design :-)

Hi. Thanks for another great tutorial. Watching it today, 8 Feb 2022. What is the advantage using a coil over the thread feature F360 has?
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 2 года назад
The Coil tool lets you design Custom threads in case the Thread option doesn't have the exact thread profile you need.
@werre2

Wow - someone else who takes a few iterations to get their one-off projects just right? Yeah - that's WAY encouraging! Thunk I were the Lone Stranger! Not really - that's one of the "features" (as Mikro$ift might spin it) of 3D printing - easy iterations with short cycle times let your work it until it's good enough for who it's for! Anyway, thanks for the idea with the coil thing - looks like what I need to revisit a low priority project that I looked at and promptly set aside some time ago - a nice aluminum water bottle that somehow got separated from its screw top - while being hooked up with the WRONG top with totally WRONG threads - so someone else out there somewhere has the exact inverse problem as mine, it would appear. Odd thing about it is that there are TWO threads, each starting at 180 from the other. So a double dose of kudos on ye! Take care!

How do you get that yellow circle around your pointer? Is that windows or fusion?

Hi Hans, it's from the screen recording software I'm using which is Camtasia.

Great video man. Quite helpful. You said 110mm for the cap to fit 108 mm, i am like 'wow, do i also need that much clearance?'. Then, you shell out 2 mm in Fusion 360. So, basically 108mm for 108mm :D
@michaels3003
@michaels3003 6 лет назад
No. It was an outer shell, not the default inner shell. One mm clearance (on each side if centered) is about 1 percent of the inner diameter.

Why the Fusion 260 cannot make coil with custom shape, with given profile drawn in the sketch?

Do you offer a lesson for splitting a current model(YODA( or such and then making it a container with costumers threads?
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 7 лет назад
I don't have such a tutorial but I would approach it by importing the model, convert it to brep, apply the shell command to hollow it out and then adding geometry to make your threads. Watch my Editing a High Poly stl tutorial to see how to edit imported stl files.
