I've dealt with that a lot as a teaching assistant being a lighter skinned Hispanic (born and raised in the US) among predominately African American parents, threatening to sue the district or believe their kids when they in fact have told me their child is a compulsive liar or not listen to me in a meeting but when the administrator relays the exact same thing I said, then they "understand". It was frustrating.
Its so sad i feel like i can relate, i spoke fluent English when I moved and I even blended in but still felt left out and apologized for even breathing too loudly

@@abraham2973 When the OP blamed it on race. It is exactly how it is. Just like how kids are nervous on their 1st day of school; The same pressure applied for immigrants. How fast a person can integrate is up to their personality traits. Hence, some take longer to find friends while other don't. The victim mentality is for those that tend to lean on the side of people who have a hard time making friends due to their personality. Dont even BS and bring race into it. Who you are, is who your feeling is telling you to be. It has nothing to do with race.
As a person with apparent disabilities I've been made to apologize for everything at jobs even if I was innocent. I understand how Jessica felt. Powerless is exactly the word!
This makes me so fucking sad because my family, as Chinese immigrants, did this ALL THE TIME when we first moved to Canada. We tried to be the model minority and did everything we can to assimilate and now looking back everything my parents had to endure...all the workplace discrimination, the racial slurs, and getting stepped on in every situation is just...its so bitter

I relate. I always have to apologize for things even when I could’ve supported myself. My parents are also victims of this as they too always say sorry.
I feel like us minority parents want to never let our kids experience the harsh things we did but over time I've realized that we can't do anything that ensures they'll never have that experience- we can only do our best to prepare them for those experiences and how to handle them better.
Sad but true , my mom half Spaniard half korean not knowing any English. It was hard on her me who was born in Spain getting bullied and discriminated for my name. And how I looked. Fighting for success to get respect in the states is hard. But to earn respect is earned by how you think and how you value yourself and others. That will determine if people will respect you or not. Dreams & Teddy Bears yeah, but the louis and jessica private moments ruin the true meaning behind the show; honestly, it would have been thrilling to see them fight each other like they did in real life, but here, they actually get along even though it looks like they have a huge age difference; louis looks like he is in his mid 40s and jessica looks like she is in her late 20s; constance wu put artificial makeup, cause jessica doesnt look like constance that much in this show; constance actually looks like she is in her late 30s to early 40s

If anyone still reads the comments here, I’ll tell you a little something about Asians. Chinese, Japanese, and Indians were taken as slaves and kidnapped during the coolie trade for about 100 years. When it was eventually outlawed, we were placed in neighborhoods with other minorities such as the blacks and the native Americans and couldn’t attend the schools of white people. For all Asians, go back to your history and look at it well. It doesn’t matter what happens, fight for yourself. I remember when a white kid called me a chink and a black kid protected me. The white kid got away while me and the black kid were in detention and had possible expulsion.
I live with my bf parents:/ I don’t really talk much and they say I’m being rude and disrespectful:/My mom works 6am-11pm and they say that’s her choice for working so much... she try’s to see me and make sure I have all the stuff I need on her breaks. My bf parents say she should say Hi and everything.. and that she’s very disrespectful... My bf and I use to fight ALOT. Like all sudden.. He has hit me plenty of times..I use to have bruises all over my body. They were very black it scared me seeing it when I would shower. I don’t understand why it’s okay for him to say and do things about my family. He even said some really mean things about his own family.. My mom, an immigrant. Always told me that by no accounts will she point fingers at anyone else but me. I’m accountable for my own actions, etc etc. I remember back in high school I realized that this was not the way typical American families were. Instead they would fight tooth and nail to make sure that their kid was innocent and the blame be put onto someone else. Weird the differences cultures have.
Well I am the same, except it's from my family. When I did some mistakes, I apologize, but they are just wanna kick me out instead. I don't wanna starve and homeless out there, so I began to lie and put the blame to others. That's how I survived until today

Interesting fact in Germany: you can't really get fired as a teacher. But you can be transfered to a different school if you acted wrong. The only reason you can get fired is if you assaulted children or used your authority immoraly ir any crime that equals to this two.
This is a crappy parent thing and less anything else. Parents who want to believe their child over anyone else, if it means their child will be seen in a bad light. Their child can do no wrong. Of course they're telling the truth. It's made even worse now, as the child will be seen as the victim, not the teacher.

I'm sorry but coming from a commie state like Vietnam, we were a family who left Vietnam for such reasons and we understood that America is beautiful because you do not let any commie to violate your human rights even in the Americas. I was taught to have tough skin and fight for your rights. As other minorities who are scared to do or say things especially when it comes to crimes and investigation, I would be the first to help testify to what I saw. I'm not saying no race but they think that all china looking person are the same, coward as a model minority but you know what, it is still true if you a minority without an education. They don't mess with a minority with an education though. a "model minority" isn't an immigrant group that "shrivels", its an immigrant group that are hard workers, with high iq that climb the economic ladder with each subsequent generation. This scene subverts the positive definition of model minority, which is defined as a lineage born of immigrants achieving the american dream.
LeoF3500K your explanation is the ideal version not the reality. East Asians are consider the model minority group because they haven’t been subjected to the same discrimination and racists policies that have been enforced by white America for many minority groups, especially black people.

I wouldn’t say it is dishonest. The show overdoes the stereotypes, and Florida wasn’t an Asian-free zone back in the 90s. Anyways, I am more surprised Jessica was a teacher if she didn’t have a teaching degree. Also, the fact that she was in the same generation as her students is just funny.
