this is the best explanation I've ever seen. it starts of simple, then adds a new concept each time rather trying to cover it all in one go - makes it easy to understand and follow.

DaveClass47 no doubt this is a fantastic video. It doesn’t account for how slow i am to pick stuff up. Ive just swopped from OO modelling where i used all insulfrog points to O gauge where im being forced to go elctrofrog. What is the minimum i need to do to enable me to get going as a dcc running system? Probably not fitting point motors either. Is it just the insulated fish plates?

Always a brave person who tries to "easily" explain electro frog points! As I always run a dropper to EVERY piece of track, I use the bridging wire to add a dropper to the track bus as well. This powers the points and doesn't rely on a fishplate connection. You did a lot of work producing this video, thanks and well done.

Finally understand the “mysteries” of the electro frog. Thanks Dave. I couldn’t install the motor under the baseboard because a support is in the way. I have, however, been able to make a surface mounted version by fitting it to the Hornby “hut” base and covering it with a Scalescenes Weighbridge hut. Also discovered I don’t need the insulated joiners because the points are routing the track into an engine shed and a turntable.

Thank you so much man, I really appreciate this. Greetings from the Tennessee here in the USA - I am not British but I certainly enjoy Yorkshire Gold tea and your videos - maybe I am evolving haha. Have a nice day man and thanks for the very accessible and oh-so easy to use instructions. I've seriously never have had something explained so thoroughly and so clearly. God bless you sir.

@@DeanPark Yes, I found it confusing at first too, but once you're successful in looking hard enough for quality content like this - it's actually quite simple. Some subjects in the hobby are in dire need of such explanatory videos, so what you're doing is most noble - that being the fact that you're helping the hobby move forward. You saved me from getting all flustered and saying "Screw it - I am just gonna use hand-laid stuff even though I'm not good at that. This is the best video I've seen to explain this. A lot effort I reckon? When people ask me I'm going to send them here. With O gauge hand made point combinations you have to do this so you learn anyway. Coming back indoors into On30 / 0-16.5 I'm surprised even how many don't know the importance of the insulated joiners. Just to add ... if you attach flexible wire jumpers to the blades as well, the points will work for your lifetime. I only use electric frogs now on DCC. Don't tend to modify PECO, but with 3 ways and slips I think it's essential.

Excellent video. I have been using the peco point motors for over 30 years and never had a failure when used with a capacitor discharge unit however my experience of the polarity switch is not as good. Mine usually fail to work after about 5 to 10 years. Maybe I have been unlucky or expecting too much. For the last 2 years I have replaced them with a Hex Frog Juicer as they stop working. No failures yet. You simply disconnect the wiring from the peco polarity switch and use the same wiring the Juicer to the track.

Very clear and easy to understand, probably the best explanation I've seen so far now that I'm getting back into things a bit. Cheers 👍

Did exactly that. Works a gem. Strange though they do not produce them like this ready to go.

DC47, I've watched several now, and finally found yours. Very well done, extremely easy to follow and great narration of clarity and brevity! Thank you so much...very helpful. I've saved it as a favorite to refer to as needed.

Thanks Dave, I’m a new subscriber here and very happy to have found you. That video was very comprehensive, easy to understand and informative. I’ll certainly be visiting again to help me understand certain concepts as I’m about to embark on completing my model railway room ready to start building my railway, to be called Pevenbourne, later this year. Loved the train action interludes in your video too, very well done !

Hi Bryan, welcome aboard! Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and give me feedback. I am really glad you enjoyed and understood the video. I have a load of how to and scenic videos along with monthly updates, running sessions and regular product reviews. I hope you find them enjoyable and above all useful as you get stuck in about Pevenbourne. A great hobby isn't it? Can I ask, how did you stumble across Dean Park? ;-) I am so glad you did. Thanks again. Dave

Hi Dave, Absolutely, great hobby indeed ! I had a model railway many years ago in my parents loft. It was a different world back then in the mid-70s ! But one emerging thing that was exciting at the time was Hornby’s Zero 1 and I had a full setup of it with master controller plus three slaves. The modules were a bit flaky, but it was a great system, way ahead of its time and of course the predecessor of the amazing DCC that we have today. By early 80s, I discovered girls 😉 and inevitably that lead to the family years so the model Railways got packed away and have followed me from house to house through the years ! But I’m just four and a half years from retirement now and we’ve moved into a house which includes a room converted from an integral garage that will soon become a model railway room for me. Construction will commence in the next few months and will gain momentum as a retirement project. I “stumbled across” Dean Park thanks to a suggestion e-mail from RU-vid, presumably owing to my interest in other model railway videos, and like you, I’m glad I did as I look forward to watching more of your videos to bring me up to date for the technology available today. Best wishes.

EXCELLANT well done video showing all the "how to wire it". My layout is going to have 6 (yes 6) Peco Double Cross Overs going inbetween paralel tracks, motorised as well like you did for the above regular turnout....Can you make a video on how the Double Cross Overs are motorised and wired up. I sure would appreciate that if you could. Thanks

Wow this is good. Thank you for the help. I decided to stop using insulfrog because some of my steam locomotives would bridge the plastic of the frog and short. And as an added bonus electrofrog looks more prototypical.
