I bought this model of the RMS Titanic that is "sinkable" A Note on the Music: It is "Nearer my God to Thee," supposedly the last song played by the orchestra as the ship went down.
I remember watching this way back in 2009. Found this in my recommendations and the nostalgia of spending hours on the computer watching videos about the Titanic came back. Over a decade later and this is still one of my favorite videos.
I remember watching this. now that I look back at it it's actually quite accurate. 1. Port list appears, but then as the forward well deck and fo'scle go under the list straightens 2. Model splits at a medium angle, I would say around 15-20 degrees eye-balling it 3. Stern attains heavy port list shortly after breakup, which then corrects itself as stern rears up. Of course point 3 is only seen in the first sinking and a few others
1:15-1:21 is a very realistic version of the sinking. If only the connection between the two parts that break apart was stronger so they dont actually split until the pressure of the head sinking splits them at the perfect timing.
That was pretty accurate until the cracking in half. At that point, Bob Ballard says, the front of the ship, which was full of water, and thus, equalized, took off bow downward and crashed into the bottom. After impact, the huge stream of water following it smashed into the broken back of the ship.
This song is very beautiful. The sinking toy ship looks funny though. It just goes down very fast and I can imagine little "plop" noises as the air bubbles come up and pop.
sank in two pieces, but while the stern broke apart from the bow it severely damaged what was left of the middle section which was torn off the bow section after the bow was completely under water. that was what the show "Titanic: The Missing Middle" or at 100. can't remember
i have this same model. i thought it was broken cuz of the way it sank. but i see now it was made like that. hah And watching it from this perspective, even though its just the model, seeing it break then sink and land in two different places gets to me. idk. Guess you can thank James cameron for making such a good movie and making us remember.
What I enjoy most about this video is not the video itself, but that someone's reaction to perhaps the greatest nautical tragedy in the history of the world was 'hey, you know what would be really cool? If I built a replica and sank it!' Seriously, I think that is great. The only thing that could possible make it better would be if they made 1517 scale model people who could drown in the freezing waters after the titanic sank.
The first time it has sunk on your video unbroken portrays exactly what cientists has found out about its sinking. It sank entire and that made it float in vertical position, with its stern on the top for some minutes, but the heavy weight damaged its hull and when it finally plunged under water, some minutes later and meters from the water surface, it was torn apart into two pieces which dove into the ocean and ended up laid on the bottom of the sea about 500 meters apart from each other.
i remember when the orchestra played this and mr. Andrews just sitting a a clock waiting to sink with the ship, the old couple crying together, the children and their mom sitting in a bed, and the captain being a loyal one by going down with the ship. That was the part where i was the saddest
The thing about this model, is that if you place it in a deep enough pool the pieces will land in the same placement apart from one another as the real thing! Just in a smaller scale! If you have one try it; its the coolest thing!!!!
@GR8TM4N Agreed. Time creates a strange barrier with our emotions and sensibilities. Yet the sinking, the enormity of the ship itself, carrying so much, make us want to experience it ourselves. History overtakes us. You make a good point, however.
@fenderstratguy The stern was recorded as bobbing on the surface awhile after breaking off. It still had pockets of air inside, and so imploded violently on its way to the bottom. When found, it looked like a bomb had hit it.
Nearer my God to Thee was probably the last song played, but it wasn't the version the movie shows, it was the Propior Deo (Methodist) version, search here on RU-vid "Nearer my God to Thee, Propior Deo version" and you'll see the actual version played.
I have that same model! I love putting it on display in my room...and the text you wrote on here are the exact same wording as the booklet it came with. LOL, but overall, good show :) I actually got mine at some antique-looking library in the old part of my hometown. :)
You showed that it didn’t split twice... so what if it actually broke under the water instead of on the surface as suggested in the movie? Has it been proved that it split in two on the surface?
THATS THE BEST MODEL EVER! HOW IT SPLITS INTO 2! AND HOW THE END STAYS ABOVE WATER! AND THEN THE LAST PART TO SINK ACTUALLY GOES INTO ITS PLACE! sorry i had caps on
@torowl its made specifically so it will sink exactly like the real one did. Theres a switch on the bottom that controls the iceburg damage, so you can close the gash if you didnt want to sink it.
@generalmotorssaturn That toy came out a few years back. They're going for... $200+ on ebay. I have one somewhere, but I think it's still boxed up from when I moved years ago.
If a model Titanic sunk in a swimming pool like that, you could very easily swim down and pull it out!! I always thought it would be neat to have a model Titanic toy!! I don't know where you can get one though, but maybe I'll look on Amazon! Hopefully, I can find one there! Great video!!
A lot of people think the Titanic is brittle and will eventually collapse. WRONG. Plenty of things are at the bottom of the sea that have been there for thousands of years. We can raise the thing, its as strong as ever! Its a burial ground, though, so we dont bring it up.
@dualdeserteagles it has a switch on the bottom that locks it together. and depending on how much you move the switch it opens a gash where it struck the iceberg. pretty cool for a kids toy. still have mine haha
i watched the documentary on this and one of the sadest thing that i learned is that in about 25-50 years the ship will just be buried under sand and not visable. this ship has allways interested me. and after learning that i am heartbroken
Fun fact: The R.M.S. Titanic sunk in to 2 peices but while the bow (pronounce like pow but change the P with a B) and the stern sunk it broke into 3 pieces so the Bow, Stern, and Aft
The first time it doesnt break... Wierdly enough, when it hits the bottom it breaks apart at the right distance AND the right direction as she is on the bottom of the Atlantic at 3:09 its exact but then the stern turns away from the right position just for that its a VERY GOOD VIDEO ! :D
I used to have one. I got mine back in 2008 for only $20.00 at a Hastings. since I was little back then I ended up loosing everything and breaking it. I'm asking for another on for Christmas this year.
that is how it broke cause when the bottom went underwater the pressure on the upper half was to great to stop the sinking so the water pressure snapped the ship in half causing the sinking
This is WRONG. Here are some reasons. The stern needs to split at a high angle. The first funnel did not split. The tip of the bow needs to go sink first.
Josephgamer1103 Critchlow Oh my god... Really? No. There was nothing SUDDEN about the sinking. It sank at the time it would have. Th fire is a myth they only started talking about it now. Its a false myth. That never occured on the titanic...
I've seen a model which used toilet paper, and also put toilet paper in the stern, so it would take some time to get flooded, and would behave like the real thing. It would also possibly work withe watertight compartments and some water non-resistant glue, so it would sink slower....
@colinballer i dont think thats true because captain smith was somewhere else and mr murdoch was in charge and they didnt slow the ship down fast enough
i had one of those when i was younger but of corse when i was younger i broke it in half forever more now its one of my biggest regrets so now ive been trying to find it again
@zozo2030 because the forward expansion joint was pulled apart and it caused stress on the cables which broke and the angle of the ship and the weight of the funnel pulled off the other cable and it fell
Yes, the info about her length is correct, but that's not the reason she was the largest ship, her sister Olympic was the same length. What made her the largest in the world was her gross tonnage at just over 46,000 tons. Now we have ships like the Oasis of the Seas which weighs in at around 225,000 tons!
you could attatch the stern to the bow with a thin piece of paper, that would make the stern hang on a little longer... the view from behind was fantastic, gave it ffs...
You what would have been EVEN better? If you had a little bit of tape to connect the bow and stern, so it would sink like it did in the movie (going 45 degrees till it splits, vertical then rips off the final bit of tape! Good job though!
