To all SMTers: they are not only for Harrison to enjoy, but for you to gain some knowledge of their inner workings as he gets them rolling full speed ahead. There are a variety of locomotives yet to be resurrected at your local flea markets, antique shops, estate sales, and train hobby shops. Get out there and explore!
I started my model train collection from ebay about 20 years ago. I got into it so much I opened Papatrains on ebay. It's been a great hobby and you have some real treasures there! If you build model houses etc for your layout, turn the shot glass upside down and put a bit of glue in the little concave area of the glass and use a flat toothpick to apply it where needed. Just a little tip. Nice walk down memory lane by the way. I have some of the same models!
What a nice surprise!! Tyco was a major player in HO and really had some nice items...good to see David passed them on to you SMT!! Post your progress and enjoy these treasures!
If I remember correctly the Chassis system you’re holding right now, I do Believe it’s called a UB-36 otherwise nicknamed (“U-boats”) as in like submarines !!! And to be honest I do believe that the chassis system or as they call it “Chesapeake & Ohio” as well as the “Baltimore & Ohio” did have connections with the Florida East Coast to the south end of Miami !!! 🌊🐺
You've done well with them - mine never come with a bar of chocolate included! Seriously, I get more creative pleasure from rebuilding or restoring a derelict locomotive to full running order than I ever do from owning the latest straight out of the box product. And I love the old Varney, Roundhouse and Mantua steam locos - built like tanks, and run for ever. You've got some good stuff there, lad.
Holy chocolate, SMT man! A Santa Fe passenger train, Santa Fe switcher (to switch passenger train) and matching caboose, Hershey's chocolate switching job with Chocolate Bar (CA) or Candy Bar (US), Midnight Special Baldwin Sharknose (need the matching caboose?), Chessie (Number boards), Silver Streaks number and type of locomotive is a C430... 430-1 was the demonstrator number from ALCO's first, i.e. C430-1, -2, -3. These prototypical locomotives were the First of the Last Four-Axle locomotives ALCO was building, UP F7 Revell (eh?), C & O C-Liner in fine shape (don't you just love how that rear power truck pivots 300 degrees?) and you could run it with your C4301 Chessie (please note complete railing on that unit), Baby Ruth Chug Chug hi-cube boxcar for behind any non-sound steam locomotive you have, Museum Pamphlets, syrup shot glasses, and last but not least... the Gear-wheel-grease-lint cleaner brushes. Wonderful letters and posters... AND, I'm in awe of it all getting to you well packaged. Almost brought a tear to my eyes. John Kamloops, BC
I can’t believe that you’re lucky enough to have a (“Complete Tyco/Mantua Santa Fe F-7A-B w/Passenger train set”) as well as the Hersheys shifter and box car ! The midnight express and the two silver streaks are like icing on the cake !!! 🌊🐺
I was given two identical HO Spirit of 1776 Bicentennial Locomotive train sets that were left behind from a student. Apparently they were part of some science project. They both appear to be in brand new condition but no boxes. They were stored in a box in a closet by the teacher. When she retired, she found them and gave them to me. At that time I had an N- scale layout and was heavy into our towns festival of trains at Christmas. I sold my layout in 1995 so my daughter could have her own room. Since then, I have acquired a few HO train sets as well as older N- Scale still in their original boxes. I plan to give them to my Grandson. He also has two RC planes and an RC Boat he is only 3. He does well with a remote on the boat. I got him a GEO tracks train set for $50 that originally cost $300. It's a twin train set with assories. A lady was willing to sell it dirt cheap because it was the last hour of her sale and she just wanted to sell it off.
Mr. Harrison, I wonder if you know how really lucky you are !!! That Santa Fe passenger set was a train set that I wanted my dad to get me for Christmas !!! I was a kid and it never happened ! Instead I got other stuff you know socks underwear ! If and when you get that passenger Santa-Fe set running, Please drop me a line !!! I’d love to see it run !!! 🌊🐺
Very nice lot of model railroading stuff that David sent you. I really like that Chessie unit. I cannot wait to see when you have that one running. - Paul
That made me laugh. I just bought one of those Baby Ruth Chug Chug cars. I didn't know what it was until I put it on the track. You have to run it, you'll see what I mean. It will make you laugh.
It is pretty cool for those who don't have DCC, but still want sound with their Steam Locos. I've seen an O scale (possibly Lionel) Steam Loco with that same concept in the coal tender at my local Sunday flea market. Same vendor where I picked up the Baby Ruth.
@@trainmantv Chessie (Number boards), Silver Streaks number and type of locomotive is a C430... 430-1 was the demonstrator number from ALCO's first, i.e. C430-1, -2, -3. These prototypical locomotives were the First of the Last Four-Axle locomotives ALCO was building.
I believe that the Union Pacific F unit that you got is a Varney. Varney is a OLD company. I have an old Varney Pennsylvania F unit that looks like the UP one.
Wow what a incredible gift just found your channel iam a retired railroad engineer and I now build models fulltime military models and o scale trains. Keep up the hard work it will payoff
Yes, you are correct that is (“Tyco/Mantua”) that’s when they were at their best ! Tyco knew a good thing when they saw it and they stuck with it ! I’ve really been impressed with the way that you take those little can three pole motors that run sideways and how you were able to bring them back to life that is really impressive ! There’s is your set of engines to pull your passenger cars ! And just to let you know as far as I know from the state of Florida all the way to State of Texas if a model train has the “Tyco/Mantua stamped on it” might be a C-420 still but it still looks like it’s a UB-36 to me ! And they will fight and bid for it especially if it’s one of the old reliable steam engines for example ! And that is including some diesel locomotives that (“Mantua”) did designed and built ! It was when Tico went to the super crown stale diesel engines that they went to a totally different electric motor and veered away from Mantua ! It’s people like you that help to keep the classics that we kind of grew up with when it came to the world of HO trains ! 🌊🐺
I'd love to see some collaboration videos with other model railroading channels in the future! I'm assuming it'd be pretty difficult though because a lot of them are in America.
Hi SMT, just love the fact that you restore all the older models. I thought that I was just a cheap skate as I do the same. Mainly european but some US/Canadian bits. Keep up the good work. Mike.
love your videos was wondering what you use might use on an engine thats been sitting awile i have old tyco ho like you and was wondering whats the best type of oil to use on the gears
Tyco Santa Fe was my first 40 years a go. Still have them. I remember reading the adds for those silver streaks and midnight special as well. That chessie is a u-boat as mentioned. Just getting back into the hobby concentrating on C&O from Pere Marquette days, right up through CSX. That c&o unit looks like a nice piece. Subscribed to watch it and the chessie come to life.
I think that C&O unit is a AHM Fairbanks Morse. My first engine was a AHM NYC Fairbanks Morse unit. Got in 1968. Ran until 1980 when the motor caught fire and that's all she wrote on that! If I had the experience back then, I could have tried to remotor the unit.
The TYCO "chug chug" boxcar was designed by TYCO (Mantua industries was never part of TYCO even though they did buisiness together) in 1969 and continued production until 1985 when the company began focusing on RC cars.
Quick question, what is your name if you don’t mind my asking ? I’m Jorge ! Also yeah I feel you hit jackpot with this particular’s box of Trains and “yes”you’re right the (Santa Fe passenger cars are from “Tyco/Mantua”) vintage Tyco ! Please drop me a line when you get a chance, please ! I love when you receive these mysterious boxes in there’s all sorts of goodies in there ! (Gentlemen) if it wasn’t for “Harrison”, I never would’ve known what a pancake engine was ! 🌊🐺
You're going to need a lot of luck with those old TYCO engines First of some of the gears maybe hard to find or to match up . I remember when I got my first TYCO set it was a blue and yellow Santa Fe F -7 with a small number of rolling stock the other half of the set was a small loop of Slot Cars . I've seen a remake of the set under a new name. My biggest problem with the F - 7 was that it would get over magnetised to were it barely moved and the Slot Cars also caused both the cars and RXR track to short out if or when the shoes of the slot cars made direct contact with the RXR track . But back in the mid 60's Ho was fairly new and a few hobby shops knew how to fix them . Personally I'd switch out the motor and gears my choice of parts would be North West Short Line for the gears and maybe the motor too . Other wise Good Luck
Thanks, I have a couple british locomotives, both belonged to my grandmother who lived in England as a child. One is a TTR AC scotsman and the other is a TTR 4-4-0, Not sure what kind.
I made small video of Lansing. My first video. Felt a little weird talking to myself in camera. Just learning how to do this. Had old propane furnace burn my face yesterday. So probably won't do 1 for awhile. Since most of my hair is gone lol. Had great time at show though!
How where can I get one of those 6060 steam locomotive in HO scale and how much I have see 6060 in person it is in alberta Canada I love that locomotive but it has not be taken out for a drive in 7 years because it has be in restoration 😣😭😢
