I have just bought one of these packs to put side for my birthday in June. I was in two minds if to get this one or the Roco model but after seeing the Roco model with noisy running and wheelslipping. I chose this one but I have no problems mixing this with the Roco coaches. I have always like the German DB BR401 and I plan to ride the real thing before the year 2030 when DB will be withdrawing them. I hope some will get preserved then.
I would not say that as this ICE is definitely a complete new construction and even better than the ICE-T sets they had a long time ago. This is coming closer to the Piko Hobby ICE and the Roco 1:100 starter set ICE1 and ICE2....I like it and can't wait to add more coaches and make it 14 units long!!
The one in the front is the newly released Lima HL1750 and the one in the back is an older Fleischmann 4440 - that one you can buy used on Ebay or other platforms and the Lima one you can by at model train stores that carry the Lima brand.
Scale coaches look funny on anything smaller than 3rd/18 radius, I know because the old lima set I have has radius 1 curves thereabout, and the coaches look odd going around the curves. So any layout I build will have a minimum of 3rd radius since all my european coaches are scale. That and I plan on buying a few North american passenger trains.
Well, that is always the predicament....scale coaches on tight corners or shorter coaches and it looks "better" going through the small radius curves and switches....our hobby is all about compromise as there are few people that can build a "scale" layout. I think it's important that you like what you have and what you do and what you want to build...it's your little world you are building, so build it as you like!!
Hello, I am all with you there!! I will have to put it conducting couplers or run wires with plugs and do some pick ups on some boogies to do the interior lighting...and maybe convert one center coach to mid motor with cardan shafts as an additional power unit as I don't think this Roco ICE will make it up a 2% gradient...
@@chestytrains Yeah conducting couplers might be the best option to not increase the friction any more than necessary. I´ve read that the one motor of the Lima ICE is pretty strong though. I guess testing it out on your layout is the only way to figure it out. Btw do you plan on building a bigger one in the future? These beatiful trains you got for sure would deserve it haha ;)
@@ThunderTiger0801 Yes, for sure K want to build a bigger one. The basement is being prepped for that, but I just don't find enough time to keep working on that. Yes, the Lima has a good motor and drive, but is to light...will need some extra weight. The sad thing is that the add on center coaches are still not available...really sucks!!
