Best tutorial I've found so far for someone who is a beginner, with a few hours of 'exploring' under my belt. Really enjoyed this and feel I understood what I was doing. Great job, and thank you.
It took me so long to get through these videos. So many strange occurrences and tiny mistakes. But I DID IT. Now for more. And more. And more. Thanks my friend, I'm excited to learn more from you.
I just completed it. The process went smoothly, different from any other tutorial, as it was nicely paced and I could pause between sentences+actions and everything was clear. Thank you for this!
I'm starting a degree in September in Creative Computer Game Design and I've had no prior 3D modelling experience. These tutorials have been amazing, very easy to follow and great tips! Thank you!
This simple methode as made things just sooo much easier. I always struggled with where to begin and how I knew it was right, and often just make a lot of mistakes (I also used to used to use mudbox so I suppose it was extra hard ^^). I have so much less stress with modeling now. thank you so much :D
Thank you so much I'm not even into 3d charactering but i will try it in the near future. It's a challenge that i will gladly take on. Your tutorials are clear and precise. Thanks so much
Thank you sooo much ^_^ Learned more from these 4 videos than I did in school in about 5 hours.. I think I'm gonna watch every single of your Maya videos become better :) Great stuff!
I've been struggling mightily with 3d character creation coming from a natural 2d background. This tutorial really gives me the confidence to get back and try again
I know Maya is tough. The early stages of learning 3d are the worst, there is just so much going on. And then there is not a lot of reward up front, it always takes longer to get things where you want them to be. Just stick with it. With practice you will get better. Glad the tutorial helped and thank you for the positive feedback! Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words and support. I am currently working on other curriculum for my classes. I will get into some rigging in the future but don't have the time right now. In the meantime try out mixamo.com
Thanks! I been trying out different rigging techniques and I haven't found one that I really like. When I get a workflow that is simple to do I'll post a tutorial.
Mister3d, i want to thank you for this tutorial, help me a lot to remember a lot of things in Maya. Do you have another tutorials where you continue this miniman or another character to put him in animation or in UDK, Unity? :)
+ElGallitoMasJugado I'm sorry I won't be making a rigging tutorial for this character. I already have a tutorial for rigging a bi-pedal cat. You can find it on this channel. The process is the same for this character.
Bernie Berns Hi there. I don't have a tutorial on coloring this particular character, but I do have a tutorial where I create UVs and a texture for a lego character. The title is: Painting Textures For A Lego Character - Maya and Sketchbook Pro
Great tutorial but one thing confuses me. In Part 3, as you're doing the fingers on the model's left hand I can see the full model, then around 11:40 in part 3 there's only half a model, like it's been sliced down the middle but I didn't see that explained in the video. You then duplicate the half in this one. Did I miss a step? Totally beginner with Maya so thanks for these tutorials!
Great question. When you combine two models, such as the fingers to the hand you lose any mirrored geometry. So then you have to duplicate the entire model again across the x axis to get that mirrored geometry back.
I understand how you feel. I remember when I was just starting out in Maya how difficult everything was. Keep practicing and take a short break if you get too frustrated. Then when you've had so time come back to it again.
thanks a lot for the tutorial!! very useful! is there any way to then move the mini man to then import it into a video. it's supposed to run into this video.
