Amazing video, thank you for posting! For me what I find a little discouraging as an aspiring environment artist is seeing students around me in other specializations that get job offers way easier because there is less to do so you can master it much quicker, while me being an environment artist have to spend way longer to be mastering every step of the pipeline and especially additional things such as working with USD, going from UE to Houdini, things that other specializations don't have to worry about as they can master their 1 or 2 softwares and be good to go for a job.. Anyways, it's definitely much more demanding to be industry ready as an environment artist, but it's all worth it in the end, when you can create any environment that you like. It's a very satisfying specialization to master but it takes additional work 😅
Such an interesting comment ! That's very true workwise, The good aspect of it is when you work on a big show, what you are showing in your demoreel is a lot more impressive than some other department as you almost push the environment from start to finish. So definitely the first job is hard. But the second one is a lot easier with the demoreel that you will have from your first job. Also yeah I like what you said, passionwise you can do full 3D shot by yourself no need for someone else it is so cooool to be able to do that.
