So folks, I've got sandstone, limestone and volcanic lined up, any other rock types your like me to cover in this series?
@TheImmersiveWorldCrafter
@TheImmersiveWorldCrafter 5 лет назад
Sandstone and limestone will be your sedimentary rocks, and volcanic is your igneous rock. I would say you need to include some metamorphic rocks too with ribbonlike layers and perhaps some minerals within their forms.

I think this is legitimately one of the coolest tutorials I've ever seen. The end result looks like you shrunk down a cliff face and set it on your hobby desk.

I had some great results with dry brushing but your technique provides for sure more realistic results. I was not sure what to think when you started adding unusual colors like Amber but it really adds this extra level of realism. Well done and thanks for sharing!

Sooo, this is the actual Leopard spots technique. Wet on wet. Mate, I'm so happy to have rediscovered that tutorial. I've seen so many videos from terrain youtubers that just apply bright color washes directly on porous plaster and then darken everything with a black wash. And it just ends up looking like dogshit, really unrealistic because there's no blend and the initial bright washes get sucked into the plaster before they have time to blend. This is looking WAY better. Thanks Mel !

Hello Mel. What a lovely rock! Great tutorial. The one thing I noticed right of the bat was you never came back at the end with a white high lightening technique. You know the old dry brushing. I found that fascinating. But also that fact that you let the rock and your washes create their own highlights was much superior in the final results. And that my friends is why we watch the master. See ya next time.

Really lovely outcome there, I'm doing my own rocks at the minute too, and definitely as you've done here. All too often though lovely work like this is made to look a bit naff by overly heavy use of semi luminous static grasses and flocks clumped on in lumps all over too. Good stuff, I'll have to use the plaster moulds too sometime as I've hand carved all my rocks, it takes ages! Cheers

You are a Terrain Terror! Love the UK terminology, fun stuff. But, let's get crackin'. I am new to all this stuff and watching various others for techniques to paint with acrylics. I'm a Slot Car race track guy and my layout is gonna need a lot of terrain i.e. rocks, cliffs, trees and maybe a pond or a waterfall. I've seen some of your other stuff and was wondering whether or not to subscribe. . . . No Worries Mate b'cause I finally did today as well as clicked at the end of This vid on the "Hills, Rocks and Cliffs" tutorial. Thanks for the tutorials and Hard Work Mate, Cheers!

I noticed you did this in one shot. I often do a color and let it dry so I can see how it looks. Then wet everything again and do the next color. Say, What happened to that tiny drop of yellow you added in your first vids a few years ago? The difference was amazing. Very realistic!
