Despite there being three female singers in the clip (none of them are Kate), the original audio version has Wendy singing. Kate didn't sing anything on the Models' Media LP, but she did sing backing vocals on Barbados and Out of mind...
The models were the first live concert I ever went to age 14. The sax. The synth. The 3 female back up singers moving in unison wearing tight skirts and high heels. The mullet bowl cut. The shoulder pad jackets. Pure 80s big production right there.

What a joy to discover the Aussie music of the Eighties. Hearing the bands that never penetrated the American market ~ the Stems, the Models, the Chantoozies (yes, the Chantoozies) ~ is a revelation for an American who came of age in that glorious decade. It's like seeing Aussie Rules Football for the first time, as I did at 21, and realizing ('the shock of recognition') that Aussie Rules is just about the greatest game ever invented, a damn sight better than American football.... And yes: 'Hold On' should have been a hit on the Billboard Hot 100. An amazing song
Wow Dean, that’s amazing to hear. Aussie Rules is an awesome game! My favourite ’American’ sport is ice hockey! There’s no doubt that this decade was incredible time for Aussie music. That audience looks like the big crowds for the ‘87 Australia Day weekend lineup which was a Who’s Who of Aussie bands. There are so many great bands from Downunder to discover, I’m happy to recommend a few!

I am 53 heard this song while walking my dog, by the time i got home i was still singing this tune in my head over and over lol. So i looked it up and it brought back memories, and nearly tears, the lyrics have great meaning for present times as we live🇦🇺🍺😀

Well when we took all of the places bands could rehearse and perform and gentrified them to make investors rich, it’s no surprise the fruits of this period evaporated. But hey now we have…..no soul….

I was also part of early 80's rock venues in Melb, ... later on I directed ads and had Andrew Duffield (keyboards) do some tracks (he was super successful at it) and somehow I was the only person here to learn he had issues... I never knew, so was quite a surprise, very sad. Just a couple of weeks before he went, I saw him at the beach, he was always friendly etc
the best Models song without a doubt. the vocals, sax, the song and clip are just haunting and beyond brilliant. never ever get sick of hearing it. absolute classic but 1 rarely ever played on the radio except the day James passed away. so sad.
Watched these guys on the central coast a short time after starting work and leaving school. One of the best times of my life. So wish I could wind the clock back!
Kate and zan were on album, but live on austrailan made kate n zan were playing in there own band.. dont the two other women in live show but wendy was sean girlfriend
@@opiumtrail7032 She was there as convenience because I'm Talking were on the bill as well. I dunno about you but I was on the roadcrew so I know who I saw. Aside from the line checks & soundchecks I was there 18-19 hours.
Bartons drumming was flawless soo 80s style love it. Timeless feel really those pattern changes at crucial moments you just feel it. And the synth parts were majestic. Their best song.
This band is possibly the one of the best Aussie bands ever. Saw them at the Dava and the following week saw INXS with a smaller crowd. The Models were by far the better band. When Out of mind Out of Sight was played the place went off. Hold on is one of Australia's best songs.. I wish the band members knew how good they were.
this song reminds me of a time and a place...I remember my school friend lost her voice after going to this very concert - all in the name of Michael Hutchence! It was a very memorable day for (me) but also part of music history :)
I was 16 when shit came out. At that time and still to this day most of my music was Metal and hardcore punk. This was still fucking cool back then, thumbs up to all involved.
This band is absolute gold. I was always a fan and remember seeing them play at Luna Park and the Tivoli in Sydney. Still a fan and still googling their tracks. RIP James, you really are missed :(

This song is a timeless Aussie classic, the opening always gives me goosebumps, the best time to be a teenager in the 80's. And what a superstar Wendy Matthews is as well.
Bloody good band live. This song is one of those songs that just embed in your mind if you were of this era. Love it and the memories that come with it!
what a lineup ! James Freud , Sean Kelly , Wendy matthews , Cate Ceberano, Zan Aberaine , among others , these were standouts with distinguished solo careers of their own !
My first big concert where I was one of the truss spot operators. The only problem with working in the industry is having to pack all the production gear away for 8-12 hours after such a great day. Loved it & after 35+ years in concert lighting I def miss the 80s! 🤩
The Models have so many Great songs. I can listen to them over & over. The 80's was Fantastic so many memorable songs. I don't know how many more years I've got on this earth but I can honestly say I'll keep listening to as many 80's songs as possible.
Kelly and Duffield were brilliant but it was James Freud (RIP) who took them (dragging) in the right direction....what a great band! Even ABCs James Valentine was cool on sax....

Dead Set No. I live in the UK. So perhaps best Models song I've heard would be a better description. Their stuff isn't easy to find over here. I hear motion is also great but a bit to Bowie...in my opinion.
I recently discovered Models and this is easily my favorite song from them. Sounds really good in between Icehouse’s “Great Southern Land” and Australian Crawl’s “Reckless” on a playlist.
