I can't believe how thorough you were about sanding even the most discreet crevices. And then the choice to repaint? I consider myself a furniture flipping perfectionist, but I could never. But that's why your flips are also some of the most beautiful and success flips on youtube. I'm obsessed with your style!
I've spent the last 50 years stripping and refinishing furniture both for myself and as a business. I'm now 74 yrs old and retired. I am so enjoying your work and have even picked up a few tips. I still can't resist a good project when it comes up. Thanks for sharing.
I was going to strip yesterday for the first time.....I was so done with my piece. I was a bit nervous. And stopped the job for the day- here I am today and found this.
Mud Puddle turned out to be THE absolute best choice with the lovely light wood! Aside from being my favorite color for business clothing it turned the dresser into a sophisticated piece of high-end furniture. Good call, Katie!
I loved both of your versions! I honestly don't know which I liked better. I have called it quits on paint stripper projects before too. You feel as if you could be there for all eternity.
Katie, plus the Mud Puddle really made this piece. It hails back to the 50’s easily now, without screaming it. I was born 1954. Though I don’t really love that era’s furniture, your treatment made it beautiful.
Seriously Sis, you mean business. Just before you ‘quit’ when I saw you start sanding the inside drawer cavity, I exclaimed, Do it Girl! THEN you took off the legs!?! I especially appreciate your strict attention to detail. You respect furniture and I salute you! So happy you appeared in my RU-vid feed. I subscribed and now about to binge watch. Keep on keeping on, Katie. You rock like Mt. Rainer!!!
I have to say not only do I like the new color choice better than the light pink, but I like that there is more contrast between wood and paint colors.
I love this one! I'm SO SO glad you changed the pink. I agreed with you, I like the wood and I liked the pink but it wasn't good together. The final color is perfection! 😍
I really loved the first color choice you painted the drawers. I did see how the yellow undertones of the wood made the drawers more orangey pink. I might have chosen to paint wash the carcass of the dresser with the same color you did in the drawers. But, the second color you did the drawers in truly warmed up the carcass and a beautiful outcome. Thank you for sharing this with us😊😊😊
As a huge fanatic of mid century modern design, I am glad you changed the drawer color. The color you used is totally mcm color. I would love such a beautiful recycled piece. Well done you! ❤️
I saw the Vilas trade mark and that made me more pleased that you brought the piece back to life. Sadly they went out of business a long time ago now, but I have a living and dining room of Vilas maple and still love it, fifty years after we bought it. It's great to see well made furniture saved and renewed. Good job! 😊 🍁
I questioned the first paint color, but I trust your judgment and you came through. Contrast is the key. Great 👁 you have. Also the dresser is incredible. I had to start disciplining myself to keep driving when I saw furniture on the curb. Once I quit my daughter started. She’s found some magnificent mid century wood pieces. I love ❤️ your channel Katie
You're so inspiring Katy....I Watch you and Christina and Kasha All the time......I Am a beginner Furniture painter /stainer /Do whatever I can to SAVE a piece of furniture from the dump...as I have been doing this for upwards of 2years as well as I got started with all this thru watching the 3 of you while I live with chronic pain and disabilities......So therapeutic and I Just Love being inspired by the 3 of you and love ur work so much ...keep fighting katy...in My eyes You won the fight with this Dresser haha🤗👍
Absolutely GORGEOUS ‼️ I loved it before you repainted the drawer fronts and after as well. I SO APPRECIATE the natural wood with painted drawer fronts. Simply beautiful with another job done with EXCELLENCE 👏🏻‼️👏🏻
Katie...I am thrilled that this 2 y.o. video is still available!! I have an almost exact item. It is an amazing Maple Sewing Machine Cabinet; an MCM, 4 drawers, w/large locking cabinet door covering the shelving. The leg system is the same as the dresser here. I haven't had any idea how to makeover mine until this video!! Thank you, God bless you, I absolutely love you for this!!! 🎉❤ Not to mention, YOU are the cutest!!! 😂😅
I'm glad you changed the pink drawers. I'm a pink lover but the new drawer fronts really pick up the natural variations in the woodgrain. GOOD Choice. You always style your finished pieces so nicely.
Paint stripper always makes me nervous even if I wear all my protective stuff! Lol Deff looks like you worked sooooo hard on this piece...lol I do not blame you for not sanding those!! OMG the finish! BEAUTIFUL!!!
So much love and care went into saving this piece of furniture - you really paid tribute to the tree who gave it's life for making this sideboard. Thank you, it's beautiful Katie xx
So glad you actually didn't give up because the finish product is stunning! Btw good call on the colour change because the pink just wasn't working but the brown.... DAMN!
I'm in Loooove with the choice of color you ended up with in the end. Great combo and amazing craftsmanship on your part. You have magic hands and hope you know this.
What a lovely piece of furniture. I am glad you show your mistakes as well. It encourages me when I also make mistakes and have to repaint or redo a piece. That is also why I prefer to work on cheap or free pieces. I like the technique you showed with the sponge, I might try that. Easier to do inside in winter.
You do such a beautiful job! You are so meticulous and careful with your stripping, repairing, sanding, painting, sealing, etc. I love watching you work and always love your finished products!
Good job on the final outcome. Excellent design choices. I am personally fond of natural wood finishes. Don't give up!!! The sanding work looks amazing Mrs. Salvaged by K. Scott!!!! The sponge looks satisfying to apply topcoat with.
I had high hopes for you when the top bubbled up so quickly, but... Ugh! Exactly why I try to stay away from previously painted furniture. IT'S SO MUCH WORK! And you'll rarely ever recoup all that time and effort when you sell. Kudos to you for sticking with it!
Thanks for being transparent in your struggles. I consider these videos to be informational and enjoy that you are so very professional in how you carefully apply the paint to only that areas that needs it and it's absolutely stunning as always!
wow! that was a lot of hard work but well worth it. I love the fact that you showed all the work so that it is a realistic flip and even that you didn't like it and went to plan B. Makes me feel much better about my painting as it doesn't always come together for me. In fact I have a bench that I want to repaint because my vision didn't materialize as planned. I enjoy your channel
Literally just sanded probably 4-5 coats of paint off of a 4 drawer tallboy the other day and trust me, I feel you. I have no idea how you lasted as long as you did. I spent around 3 hrs just standing the paint off. Winging it midway and changing your plans can alot of time make pieces that you couldn't even imagine look so good! Love this project
I love what you showed at 11:20. I’ve been painting furniture as a business for 18 months, but often have the sealer creep over the edge if I hand apply instead of spray. It was helpful to see you wipe across that top edge. I did that today and had much better edge results. Thank you!!!
It's not like miss Katie to give up but I can see you put in a lot of effort. The hard work paid off in the end, looks amazing😊you just keep on keeping on miss.
Such a lovely transformation! Every time it amazes me how some prep work and a can of paint can breathe a new life into a piece of furniture. Your hard work has paid off, Katie. With the final colour, you totally nailed this piece! ❤️
Let's be honest...when people paint GOOD wood furniture, it's usually because painting is less time consuming than refinishing. Unfortunately, there have been many pieces of GOOD wood furniture that have been ruined by not taking the extra time to do it right. Yes, there is a market out there for painted furniture...and there are tons of pieces that have been saved from the landfills due to paint. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder when it comes to painted furniture. Thankful to people like you who can see the beauty, even in a piece like this that was definitely not painted properly, and bring it new life!
Its' a shame we don't live closer. My favorite part is the sanding. I could sand all day and night and never get tired of it ha! Still, a great piece :)
Man what an amazing chest of drawers to find chucked out! That’s stripping with the glad wrap cover is such a great idea. I’m going to try that next time I am tackling a horrible paint job. You’re so patient to do all that sanding as well. Looks awesome, as always!
Hi Katie! Wow....I had to do that once 2 stripping down the paint on a 8ft dresser...dark wood, and the client wanted pure painted white... GF., I thought I was gonna sweat to death....lol I just love the way the wood came out, (natural looking) and yes, changing the color was a excellent idea on your park. I give you a 12+! Thank you for sharing Dee Green
1. these videos are so satisfying. they belong on the oddly satisfying reddit- my happy place. 2. I dream of doing this for a living! but as an apartment dweller, I have to stick to small home decor items or wait til I can bring them to my cabin where I have an outdoor space to work. but I have already learned so many things from your videos! thank you for the helpful info as you go.
I love seeing old furniture beautified, I've done quite a few pieces myself, not for a while since contracting Lyme Disease, so I'm enjoying watching others for a while, til I heal. I love what you did with this beaute, at first I was like "noooo, not brown! 😊 But actually, it looks fab, good choice over the pink, even though I love pink 😍 great find. I'm now subscribed 👍
You are such a hard worker!!! It’s so much better than it was!!! I was hoping you’d do the drawers in one of those lovely olive greens but the brown is better than the pink for sure!
What a great job! Kudos to you. I think I would’ve had to put it on the side and waited a week before I tackle the next paint color. But as always you are a perfectionist and everything you do comes out wonderful. You’re the queen 👑 !
You did an awesome job that paint stripper worked really well it was a lot of work but well worth it I love the colour that you chose for the drawers it looks stunning I enjoy watching your great works of art and I've learnt a lot from you thank you so much for sharing have a great day God bless
Inspired by your videos I got a small sander and yesterday I tried it for the first time and omg it takes so much work! I will continue though, because I loved geting to update my old furniture piece, but I am grateful you also show the other side if this!
I nominate you for the patience and perseverance award! You are an inspiration and a great role model. So exciting that many of us are saving furniture from the landfills. Together we will make a difference 😊
