Every since I was a small child, the Clinchfield Railroad has always been of interest to me. With steep grades, long trains, tunnels, tight curves, classic signals, and more, this railroad was never disappointing! It has been my dream for years to be able to make a full coverage documentary on the railroad, and here we are!
In this one hour production, we’ll follow the former Clinchfield Railroad from home base at Erwin, Tennessee, to the crew change point and yard in Bostic, NC. It features interviews with CSX employees, retired clinchfield staff, railfans, locals, and even the infamous “Southernrailfan” of Marion!
During this journey, we’ll stop at each small town along the way. These stops will include history, interviews, a train, and much more. Once we get to Altapass, you’ll witness a 9,650 foot train taking off on the 1.2% grade with no distributed power! Watch to see if they make it over. We’ll even catch a glimpse of CSX’s Western Maryland heritage locomotive tackling the mountains. We even get to make a slight detour to the historic “Orchard At Altapass” for some North Carolina favorite condiments!
A special thanks to Bob Loehne for allowing us to use piece of his “Clinchfield Hotshots Erwin To Spartanburg” film! We couldn’t have made this film without them.
Another huge thanks to Dalton King and Brad Wike for making this whole film possible!

So sad! I still can't believe what happened to the Clinchfield in 2015. I remember getting ELFX, OUCX, GALX, SCWX and more coal trains daily off of the Clinchfield to us in Spartanburg. Now coal trains are almost nonexistent in Spartanburg.
@blueridgerails
@blueridgerails Месяц назад
It’s definitely gotten worse on the coal side, but it’s still hanging on pretty good considering what it was.
