For me this is the future of EVs. Charging takes too long and users get hit with large bills when batteries go wrong or wear out. Governments need to be supporting this and looking to get swapping stations in all major cities. Stations should support scooters as well as lightweight 3/4 wheelers and ideally offer a small range of batteries by different manufacturers. Rental businesses will also be key in getting new users familiar with vehicles, particularly while only small types are supported.
1:55 ACM City One is by far my favorite, 4-door, 200+ miles range, and just about highway speeds at 68mph all for $12k seems like the best money for spec value.
Swapping battery packs is a very common feature that is available on electric motorcycles, is it a smart idea to have these on cars though? Share your thoughts below!
I like the battery swap idea as I change via solar so if I went down swap able batteries I could use them for home power also, great way to power life 😊
Making the EV car batteries easily replaceable is by far the best way to go. And not making them easily replaceable will bite every owner of a second-hand Tesla (the original ones will just buy new models) in the ass when the batteries are due for replacement. Btw, calling Elon Musk “a visionary” is a bit of a stretch. The guy did not found Tesla but just bought into it after the business was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning.
The issue with most modern electric cars is the cost of getting to a qualified service center and having them replace the battery. The obvious benefits of a swappable battery is inexpensive do it yourself swapping/replacement. Taking the battery inside during extreme cold weather. I want a car that has a battery that is no more difficult to replace and charge then an electric bike.
Elon Musk and other car manufacturers should realise that (around?) a third of people don't have access to charge their cars at home because we live in flats or terraced houses or busy inner cities. And no we don't want to go to Charging Stations or Battery Swop Garages every day. So the obvious solution is easy-to-swop Removable Batteries. They are the only EVs I consider buying.
Here in the USA swap stations are D.O.A. except in small niche markets. Where swappable batteries make the most sense is in small commuter class personal EV's like ebikes, scooters, and mopeds. Swappable batteries have to pass the "can I carry this up multiple flights of stairs to my appartment" test. Otherwise you would just charge at your own home.
Battery swap is probably the best solution until we can get faster charging. It works for large commercial mowers and small power tools. I have Ego and Greeworks products along with Dewalt and Craftsman battery tools. Swappable batteries are the best solution.
Most of these will never touch USA and I think Elon is right on this and more available charging station across USA at around every 200-400 mile range and have them at many stores.
Silence is hardly what I would class as a 'start-up', they've been making their range of scooters for about 10 years, and the S04 shares the same removable packs as these! They will be going on sale in the UK soon - I already have an S01 scooter!
Hello, thanks for your feedback. They have grown out of the start up name for sure. They even have a cooperation with Seat now. By the way, how do you like your scooter?
@@Datacube I love it! The build quality is very good, the removable battery (and the fact that it wasn't Chinese!) were major reasons for choosing this one!
I notice that nobody wants to talk about EV's in snow. I'm lost as to why all EV's do not have AWD with in-wheel motors like the Aptera and Nobe do. Equally weird is why so few come with solar panels as standard.
Solar panel requires an inverter which in turn requires extra space and would also add extra weight, not worth it for 20 mins extra driving from solar charging on sunny day.
removable batteries is a brilliant idea......if you know you will only be driving 5 miles a day, why would you want to spend energy on carrying the weight of the battery you dont need
Looking at the Citroën ami you tube videos from all over Europe there are people trailing leads from a second floor balcony and down walkways because it has not got fast changing or battery swap technology the best you can do is use a battery pack with a inverter built in at the side of the road because they never thought of appartment dwellers now supermarkets and drive through outlets are charging people for spending more than the allowed time parked and it takes up to 4hours for a full charge it only does 28mph max so only usefull for inner-city
