Sweet draft, guys! I drafted a janky of jank decks in the Arena Open last night and somehow squeaked out the $500 payout prize if you wanna check that out. Your deck here looked like way more fun.

Yall are doing great so far with MH3! I love this format so much!! I was afraid they were not going to add this set to Arena. PoTW is one of the tougher ones we have had in a while. I think overall I would have followed Adrian's suggestion with Maurader. That being said, I was hoping yall would have stuck with Blue as the 4th color instead of white. If that were the case than yall could have chosen Unfathomable Truths for a small bit of card draw
Yeah I think I agree in the end, Marauder would have been fantastic in this deck. I love me some unfathomable truths, would have loved to run that if the mana could have supported it.
Congratulations Draft Punks on an amazing draft and display of Magic excellence. It wasn't a Maximum Magic Monday, but it's a great one nonetheless. Pick of the week: got to be Accursed Marauder for me. There is also a Serum Visionary in the pack - not a likely wheel though. Chtonian Nightmare easiest loops imho are Sneaky Snackers , Accursed Marauder, serum Visionary... With a complement of Kami and Marionette Apprentice if you can get them. So take the black card that goes to the graveyard early, and see if the blue cards show up. Alas no Sneaky Snackers in this draft, and you've put the green eldrazi to do some good work. THAT BEING SAID I could not believe you passed multiple Infernal Captors. You could have had a sick steal and sac shenanigans deck, possibly with 2, and 2 Precursors. Infernal Captors exploits itself, goes to the bin, stolen creature sac to bring back marauder... Energy neutral and you have multiple way to make spawns to restart the loop. Yes you could do pedestrians thing like attacking, or just drain drain drain. Never had the pleasure of opening a Nightmare myself, still rooting for one. Be well dear punks!
Thanks Nicola! Given that you haven't played with Nightmare yourself, that is some very insightful knowledge on how to build around it, great points! We will definitely have to do a steal n sac deck, that's one we've had a lot of fun with on the channel before.
POTW: I’ve had a lot of experience in this format already, so when you get a Chthonian Nightmare this early, there are some infinite loops you can set up involving steal and sac and whatnot. Here you want to take the accursed marauder, as a component for that, and in the future you can be on the lookout for infernal captor and skittering precursor (like in the next pack) The precursor will leave a dude behind once you sac it which goes infinite with the nightmare and makes it virtually impossible for the opponent to do anything if you loop it with infernal captor.
This is fantastic! Love all of this, and now much more keen to draft this deck more consciously next time. We did indeed figure some of this out on the go haha.
@draftpunksmtg just had a sweet deck with 3 green bombs ,railway brawler, the flash worm, bristlebud farmer and an outlaws merriment for extra spice. Somehow started 0-2 but managed to go 6 in a row to lvl up to diamond
So you know that meme of bell curve IQ distribution where the extremes have identical simplistic opinion, while the median IQ tries to rationalize and explain things? Well, for MH3 it would be the extremes saying "just pick Writhing Chrysalis", while median is coping so hard that draft is a self correcting system. BTW I'm on the left side of that diagram. I wish I could bring back the early days of the format, when you can even get WC passed to you. Haven't seen one in ages outside of the first pick, and what can you even do with it? Do you pick it, admitting that you'd rather fight in the slums against other rats for a piece of a pizza pie or find yourself an open lane? But alas, I haven't drafted gruul in last 10 drafts and results show. And this week I'll leave you with this curve I managed to get back in the good days of early MH3. Turn 1 Guide of Souls, turn 2 second Guide of Souls. Turn 4 Writhing Chrysalis.... Turn 5 Second Writhing Chrysalis.

This is wholly unacceptable! You give us an early draft, then, leave us to our own devices for this God forsaken format? Why? Why daft punks? Why?!? What we've come to is a 7 mana 7/7 common with vigilance is bad, decree of justice is mid and anything beyond that is meh? Tell me there's power creep without telling me there's power creep. Also, I am just down today. My hockey team lost the final game of the final series. So yeah. My rant meter is just fully overdrawn. Yeah. Still, i appreciate you both, and you still managed to bring some levity to my rather sombre night. So I guess I'll leave it here, maybe....
Sorry for the delay, that was my fault. Some life stuff got in the way. But yeah, the power level in the MH sets is insane. Constructed and limited both feeling that. It's not a new standard for draft though, thankfully.
