I think grading from the EU is so incredibly expensive (at least with the bigger companies) that it is almost never worth the cost, wait and trouble. Even with a middle man. I'd rather just buy slabs from Ebay.
Hey Jake, I'm a fan of your channel and wanted to thank you for being one to take away the need for money to be such a prominent part of this hobby. At the end of the day, it is about being happy and as you mentioned, "Being a collector can be owning one common card" and I couldn't agree more. I've been collecting nearly 23 years and have spent millions of dollars on it over that time (amassing many valuable cards in the process - but that's not the point). At the end of the day, it is not a competition and a collector or someone who enjoys the hobby should do just that, collect. More importantly, share that excitement with others in a positive and non-competitive way. Grading is a grey area as many people grade cards for the purpose of either selling or prestige. At the end of the day, I do like grading cards as it keeps them in good condition, but that's just me. I prefer PSA as they let you keep an index of your collection unlike other grading services. (I started when I was 7 years old in 1997 in NYC and shadowless 1st edition charizard was my first pull. Cheers.
I would say that the pikachu world collection (2010) is a great value play currently around $300 on ebay with some gorgeous pikachu art and comes with 9 pikachu cards with unique art work. Also if you want to recoup your spent $ eah card has easily sold for over $100 after grading pretty overlooked product tbh. Great work as always!
11:06 I also highly recommend picking these cards up. I bought the blue strategy, green exploration, and reds challenge from the tag team all stars set and graded them with cgc and they all received pretty high grades. Even if these cards were to be released in english, i think the quality of the cards would be less than the japan ones you can buy from ebay. But this made me want to pick up the misty card from tag team as well, the set is an overall great set!
"don't try to collect everything" is one of the most important pieces of advice for people starting out or even people that have been collectors for a while! it's definitely tempting since there's so many amazing cards/boxes etc but it's just not feasible & could lead to burnout pretty quick!
Definitely would be hard to part with some of my cards but I'm hoping to do the same in the future as you did. Investing it in a house and just feeling settled and have a normal life is the dream
My collection has grown more than 10x within the past two years. This year, I decided to sell everything except for my etbs and certain cards. Bb, blisters, premium collections, and singles have all been sold to fund my etb addiction!
Any suggestions on how I can grow my collection without simply continuing to spend lots of money? Any secret strategies to find really good deals and maybe even make money in the process of collecting?
The Marnie Box is available everywhere here in germany. Also the englisch Versions are around 50 Bucks. The value oft the Marnie promo is currently about 12€ here :) ps love your videos
10:00 me too... that's why I'm starting a serious waifu collection here xD I got a UP Lillie, CE Lillie's full, Bianca from BW boundaries and a Skyla Boundaries for $460 :D
Hey Guys! Was wondering what opinions were on removing a special delivery bidoof from its packaging and putting into penny sleeve and top loader… Do you think that this will effect the price long term or does it really not matter?
I have been thinking about picking up a promo Pikachu for example the Kanazawa Pikachu or some type of poncho Pikachu (non full art) I would love to hear your opinion on which one you think would be the best one to pick up
Giovanni boss pikachu is my #3 most favorite card!!!! For the new collector. Start with what you like but understand it will slowly evolve just like a pokemon evolves.
Hey, Japan has so many products. Some Japan exclusives like the special pikachu display for around 130. Any advice/recommendations for how to value Japanese exclusives/releases and future growth?
I have 4 sealed 1st edition boxes of Gym Heroes. Bought them direct from WotC long ago and boxed them up - only re-discovered them when my parents asked me to clean out the garage. What should I do to max return (buy acrylic case, free shipping, etc.)?
Marnie boxes of the rip resale was like double msrp. If you want that box its not Horrible at 80 bucks 60 would be muchhh nicer tho. Idk if they get a reprint if they do id imagine with the next milk cartoon release or soon after that if not never likely.
Yo jake, wondering about shining fates etbs. Would you think they are still a good buy or just buying singles from it ate better? Just saw what looks like a restock at targets and just wondered if they are still worth grabbing. Thanks!
Jake! My TwiceBaked dude! Noice video as always!! I had a cool idea I would love to see as one of your videos! So I recently discovered I have a copy of Heart Gold for DS Big Box Walmart Exclusive with the HoOh figure and PokeWalker Jacket. Apparently it’s pretty rare and exclusive. I think it would be awesome to do a video that’s just about the most rare or exclusive copies of the various main line games through out the years. And the respective collectables or even in game items and Pokémon they’ve released!! I know you cover mostly TCG but it’s food for thought!! Haha thanks man for all of the great content, not trying to shill just thought it was a neat idea
What about Champions Path ETBs? Also I've seen Battle Styles and Chilling Reign BBs for $90. Think it's worth buying and cracking open for hits to resell and profit?
I really want an eevee heroes box for that espeon vmax promo, but it's so expensive! If I hold on to the included booster boxes can I sell those later at a higher value? Or will those not hold value being inside another box?
Hey Jake, do you think i should get a vmax climax and battle region for 100$ total. Also what are your thoughts on buying space juggler, time gazer, fusion arts, and star birth for about 220$ and if yes than should i open or keep sealed.
Hey Jake! I'm collecting again after 20 years and wanna buy some vintage packs but I'm worried I'll buy fakes. Do you know of any reputable sites I can buy real 1999 packs from?
I just got into buying graded cards - NHL, NBA and now Pokemon. I haven't sent any cards to be graded as I am posting this comment. I have bought PSA graded cards off eBay and a local seller.
I want to purchase the Japanese Firefighter Pikachu PSA 10... but its soo much $$$. Do you know the history of the promo card? Like the art/release/ect?
Do you think i should pickup charizard and reshiram gx premium collection and pikachu and zekrom gx premium collection for about 110$ and keep them sealed? my friend is also willing to sell me the jolteon v/ flareon v / vaporeon v premium collection boxes for a little less than 200$ for all 3, is it worth it?
if you want to buy a boosterbox for long-term investments, there is NO set you can buy that will make you lose profit. Every single set eventually goes up in value when they no longer print it and when there will never be any reprint for it.
brilliant stars booster box is 176 dollars where i live is it worth it or shud i get fusion stars which is 145 dollars this will be my first ever booster box
Can you make a video explaining the parameters (such as rarity playability ech.) that define that value of a card and sealed products in pokemon tcg?And how does reprints affect card value. For example magic the gathering one of the major factors is playability
Hi Jake! Great video! Just out of curiosity, where can we post our questions for the next Q & A video? I never seem to find the appropriate comment section for that. One question I had was how one could stay in the loop about premium, exclusive upcoming Japanese Pokémon products, such as the Sword and Shield Precious Collector Box that is coming out soon (and similar to past exclusive products such as the cosplay and poncho Pikachus).
I could be entirely wrong and it definitely depends on how many reprints they release but the Pokémon Go set coming out 3rd quarter I think will be the biggest item of 2022. I will definitely be collecting as much a can with the hope of collecting the big three in their radiance variations!
@@TwicebakedJake that is so crazy to me. This must’ve been the peak peak of the hype. I remember around maybe Nov-Dec 2019 winning an eBay auction for a PSA 7 unlimited charizard (pretty sure, but maybe it was a 6) for under $400 and then being super mad because the seller claimed they no longer had the card. Obviously they didn’t like the price it sold for. eBay was no help. Love the channel & hope you keep the videos coming for a long time. Thanks Jake!
I sent some cards in a year and a half ago. I will NEVER be grading cards EVER again. Absolutely pathetic, the time I’m waiting. This was before the craziness at PSA.
5:15 I have to disagree with you there not everyone likes to grade there cards and prefer to keep them raw. Ive seen raw cards on secondary market looking mint to gem mint if you.can see high quality photos before purchase and the seller is happy to show you then yes you.can pick up some decent condition raw cards that could potentially get 9s even the 10 grade. It is rare to find nice raw cards and you'll be fighting everyone else in the bids for them hahaha 😆
@5:00 This is terrible advice. Not everyone grades cards. older cards from Sun and Moon are very plentiful raw and you can find great condition ones raw. Jake is implying that everyone who has a great condition card that they will get it graded and thats simply not true. i would say less than half get graded. i hope this clears up the question you asked.
