One can clearly see the time and passion that went into your project. Even tough I did not grow up using arcades I still find it interesting and I'm glad that there are people such as yourself keeping arcades relevant in today's world :)
I found a guy that owned a lot of the arcades in the Southern California area where I grew up by coincidence what I started looking for someone in the United States with a vewlix back in 2020. Also I was able to find a vewlix L then had already been converted to two player. I wanted to dive back in and finish turning it into a steam machine, but me and my family have had a good time playing it as is. Unfortunately someone installed a Pandora’s box but the coin slot works just fine and I changed all the graphics to streetfighter five. I love your set up.
Just wonderful! Amazing work you've done. This is exactly what I dream about. If I one day manage to track down a 'good as new' or 'new' original Vewlix DB I will be all over it.
Hmmm, very interesting. I'm about to purchase a Chewlix and am considering making a PC the brains of the unit, but I like the idea of having a USB switchbox to connect multiple consoles.
I have had a lot of trouble with that switch and PS5 stuff though- Not totally sure what the issue is. Works fine for everything else, including an Xbox One Series X I used to have. Generally I just connect the PS5 through it with a hard manual switch now. Annoying, but that's what it is I guess. In general, PS5 is super obnoxious about inputs and outputs. Spoils what would otherwise be a phenomenal console for me.
Really cool stuff. I remember seeing these cabs when they were new. Didn't understand them at that point (why not just play on a regular TV?). Here it looks awesome. Having a tournament and the ability to have people sat next to you on a couch and watch what's going on ingame on the cab... Great idea.
Man I'll late to the party. Always wanted one of these. Who can I trust to purchase one of these Vewlix Arcade and what extra parts should I order ahead of time. Love the video .please give us 2022 updates
beautiful man! I'm so glad Hadoken bracket breathed life in my cab. I also have an ami L and boy was that 720p screen awful, had it for 4 years. Just popped in a new LG VA panel. I hope one day you can try Samurai Showdown, apparently on Xbox series X it runs at 120 Hz, the first fighter to do so. Sadly the PC version doesn't which is crazy to me, but eventually, I imagine. Thanks for sharing! Are you part of the Chewlix/ Vewlix group on facebook? Join us if you arent this video is gold.
I’ve got Samurai Shodown on the PC and my Series X - that lives upstairs. I didn’t realize the PC version didn’t have parity for frame rate! I was just annoyed with it on Series X because of the crazy screen tearing- our TV doesn’t have any kind of sync. Man, I wish that game had better netcode- I really like it. I am a member of that group- good call- I’ll post there now. Hopefully nobody will be too angry at me for drilling holes in a panel…
@@davysmith8569 Ugh... the online is awful. I'm just hoping rollback comes someday- for now it's just that game I force people to play when they come over.
I have always wanted a Vewlix cabinet and this set up looks great. Melty Blood looks amazing on it. I take it through Big Picture Mode emulators must look amazing (not that you would with your setup and original hardware). That is a great setup, congratulations
I actually don’t run a lot of emulators on this, apart from things like the Capcom Street Fighter Collection! I don’t have anything for Capcom CPS though, so either I need to get something on that front or bite the bullet and do some MAME stuff.
@@dorfus i have one build almost 3 years ago, my setup are 32 curve screen 164hz , inside the arcade are xbox one , ps3 ps4, and pc. i made my own console selector buttons on the top of the control panel.
@@dorfus If you are thinking about a front end, I would suggest Attract Mode as you can customise it to what you want. However, if you do not want to do any set up then coinops is your better choice. You have most of the fighters that you want or need, however they miss a lot of good fighters, hence why I prefer Attract Mode, that and you can have as many themes as you want for different displays so you can have one theme for the main menu, switch to Capcom as an example and have another theme for that, you also have a Nesica Live theme for download so it has plenty of scope. Nice build though.
How is it fairing these days? Have you updated it? I'd love to see a follow up video to what you'd do different or if you have updated it since. Cheers!
This is amazing. I would love to see in a more detailed way how you took the amp controls and put them into that top panel. I see 2 knobs, but looking at the amp on amazon it shows 3 and a on/off switch.
I've got a pair of Vewlix L's coming from KC right now, and I'd love to learn more about your optional control panel setup next to the card reader. I'm trying to find more info on those, and I really like the functionality you've set yours up with.
The little control panel is really just the one that came with the system- a plain plastic panel. I drilled holes in it, mounted buttons (24mm) and also holes for USB extension cables and volume attenuation controls. The volume knobs are an attenuator between a source (the monitor) and the amplifier / speakers. The actual source is turned up to 100%, and the speakers are turned up high too. The volume knob simply goes from total zero volume to that high point established by the speakers and monitor.
Sure! Check out the usb video I made for how I switch between different console controls. Anything else is just done through the hdmi on the back of the LG panel. Since the panel is handling audio and video through hdmi, the sound is split out of that as well into a small inexpensive speaker amp.
Amazing video! I'm just getting started on learning everything I can about home arcade stuff, though I'm pretty nooby when it comes to that AND electronics stuff. So, I kind of just wanna know how you got your PC attached to it? You probably have a disassembled one running inside your system, but is it possible to just use HDMI & USB (assuming the Vewlix control panel has an external one?!) to connect the system to an external PC? Is it also possible for me to just chuck my gaming laptop in there and connect it? Also, how did you get the Vewlix control panel working on all those systems at once? I get the HDMI splitter part, but how do you seamlessly get the control panel connected for all those systems at once? (I know it has something to do with the Universal Fighting PCB, but I just can't wrap my head around how the control panel is connected to all of those at once. Are there multiple... really long USBs inside?) So sorry for all the questions, I'm just so amazed! It's been so hard to find information online that doesn't delve into the technical mumbo jumbo that's hard for a newbie like me to understand, and this setup looks like everything I've been dreaming of!
Hi, im looking to buy a cab, can you supply me with the dealer u did business with? Please and thank you. This the only video that's recent and im been searching for info before buying one
I had such fun watching what you did to make it more modern and really make it your own, but what kept me there was the music. I was hypnotized, could you tell me it's name please?
@0:19 Where did you find a sub panel that supports a power switch button? Or did you make that yourself. Great video, this too me is an ideal modernized vewlix cab setup
So that sub panel was a plain plastic panel on the vewlix that I drilled holes into. I wired a pc power switch into it. I think now there are several people who make plexi or metal panels that fit that spot- it is essentially a removable plastic piece that can be replaced with all manner of card reader or accessory as the arcade required.
I really do need to shoot a new video about the updates I’ve made, and the three other cabinets that I’ve got now. I also did go to Japan and took a ton of footage there of some great arcades. I will say that the Vewlix is still the best cab around, and my favorite even after getting some other stuff.
I'd love to see how you set it up. Especially the phone charger, I clicked the link you have below but that...isn't flat. how did you get it to fit under the Nescia?
Great video! I also got a vewlix and similar to your preferences, I feel as though the stock Sanwa buttons and joysticks didn't have the tension I desired. How much of an improvement is the Seimitsu buttons/joysticks??
There’s no comparison for me. A big benefit too with the Seimitsu sticks is the variety of spring weights you can add for more tension. I’m sure you can do something similar with Sanwa levers, but Seimitsu makes it very easy.
May this is dream setup. I wanted to ask as I am interested in getting a viewlix L, how hard is to get a computer inside that baby ? I want to be able to play PC/console in there
It’s actually not too bad. Certainly preferable to be on different machines, but I’ve played this a lot with other people and don’t have an issue with it. I do however have an issue with two player on a Blast City- I always wondered why people used 2P Sega as a standard and not 1p. The reason is because 1P Sega has its buttons tilted weird so the first player won’t constantly be elbowing the second player.
@@dorfus thanks. I have seen JonyFraze do 2 cabs next to each other, 1P panels each. That's ideal but obviously costly and takes up more room. Another option I have been thinking about is a 1P panel (most likely the most common use case) and just use a USB port to plug in another fight stick to sit on player 2's lap.
@dorfus Great Video and I love your office game room! Quick question for you. How did you end up wiring your stock speakers to your new amp? I want to do the same thing. I'm looking for the easiest solution. Any help would be highly appreciate.
Hey there! I’m trying to remember the exact wires from the original Taito amp but I can’t find the diagram now- basically it’s a little connection cable that I cut and directly wired into the amplifier listed as an Amazon link below. The dials on the top really just attenuate the volume coming from the PC inside- the amplifier itself is always at the same level.
@dorfus thanks it worked! Simple enough. Last question for you. I plan to do a pc build in my vewlix and I order the monitor bracket that you mentioned. How do you have your monitor set up? Does it turn on automatically when you turn on your computer? Or do you have to go to the back of the machine to turn it on? Again, thanks for the help 😀
@@arthurclayton8866 Depending on the LG model, they auto switch and are in sleep mode until an input is detected. Mine is always on in sleep mode. I have noticed some do not auto switch though- so your mileage may vary. If you end up with one like that, you’ll need some kind of hdmi switch. Make sure everything is set up before you close up the casing on your monitor, the control button is very hard to access.
@@dorfus Again thanks for all your help. It really is helping me with my build. Last question for you. Did you buy the panel with the volume, usb ports, and power button? Or did you you drill holes and create your own?
I'm sure you could have someone make a panel of any layout- there are some great custom builders out there. We've joked around here about having a panel made that has a hitbox on the 2P side.
Honestly, it's really hard to find them right now. I bought a lot of them for around the actual cash value on eBay a year ago- I think I just got lucky. More recently, I've had friends in Korea and Japan send me 100 yen coins that they had on hand. Do NOT buy the Olympic 100 yen coins you see on eBay- my machines reject them. Something is slightly different about them.
Question, I'm looking at the wireless charger you bought off amazon, but how did you mount it to work under the nesica panel? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
I cut down all the internal structures attached to the Nesica card reader, and removed all the associated electronics. A very close connection is essential. Then I basically gutted the wireless charger and removed the pad (be careful not to crack it) and hot glued the whole thing tightly within the Nesica reader. Not pretty, but it is very functional and charges the phone even when the pc inside is off.
I have the same with HD 32", but somehow i can't get my DVI working, i am using VGA instead but whatever i do i will never get an image trough DVI, i use an HDMI to DVI cable, but the monitor keeps saying NO SIGNAL. Any tips?
Are you using the original monitor? They’re very finicky. Are you sending a 720p signal? I do not believe they can handle anything more unless you have a Diamond Black.
Thanks for the video. How did you wire the speakers into the amp? Did you remove the existing 4 wires from the JST connector, and if so, how did you convert them into the RCA style plugs on the amplifier you linked? I am trying to bypass the stock amp in my Diamond Orange with a PS4 because it just buzzes and doesn't work. I would really like to avoid taking apart/replacing the original speakers...
I cut the original sound connector off, the one that connected to the Taito board. I stripped the wires for a normal amplifier connection and used the following for connecting to the amp: The "S" connector looks to be a JST XL, and looking at the Vewlix schematics it is for the speakers Pin 1 Speaker L+ Pin 2 Speaker R+ Pin 3 Speaker L- Pin 4 Speaker R- I found that in a forum somewhere. The speakers are wired in sequence by the way. So even though there are four, you only need to connect left and right.
Best thing to do is check around on the Facebook groups right now- I know a great seller in NJ who has a Vewlix up for a great price as of early March ‘22.
