Sonnet 250. Avoiding Non-Suicidal Self-Injury.
Our lives became so serious. Stood still,
What overwhelming want was clarified?
What brake applied to stop the slide downhill
As comedy became a place to hide?
The complications of these trying times
Were smoothed, or not, by each snipe at ourselves,
We’d had the chance to see the shameful crimes
Committed through a life lived on the shelf.
The self-incrimination of the scared!
The onanistic thoughts of those ensconced!
We laugh! The NSSI of the bored!
A failure of the flight or fight response;
As “What we have we hold,” became the play,
We used to stop us dropping through the day.
Lockdown Sonnet Thirty-two.
