This song was dedicated to the cold war to show and feel where distrust and hostility can lead you. Today, 35 years later, reality has caught up with us again and we are anxious about the future. Precisely what is currently reflected in what is happening in the Ukraine war. The video shows and lets you guess what happens when you lose control of what is happening.
The 1987 song has an apocaliptic vibe perhaps because in Europe after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 the tensions with Soviet Union were as its peak( more or less like now in 2022 with the war in Ukraine) and, most of us were imagining about all possible dark scenarios. Maybe that context has a meaning in the composition.
Yes, apocalyptic is the right word .... MT had an apocalyptic tone a lot of their later songs which are almost sci fi... They actually made some of their greatest songs during the end of their 80s arc at the decline of their popularity, how ironic .... it was masterpieces after masterpieces with songs like Who Will Save The World, Jet Airliner, In 100 Years, Like A Hero etc ...
A somewhat unusual anti-war song. What's interesting is that Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen were in a private war at the time and weren't even able to shoot the video together. They weren't even on location on the same shooting days and recorded everything separately.
It was the last official music video during the MT's "Classic period" (`84-`87). The relationship between Dieter and Thomas was very strained, and the guys filmed separately each other.

The song flopped in Germany because by then Thomas & Dieter were always fighting about Nora and stuff so there was no promotion whatsoever for that single and even in the music video notice that Thomas & Dieter are never together on-screen ! It's because they were even filmed seperately for the first time. A 2nd single from the album "In The Garden Of Venus" was supposed to be released, the amazing song "Locomotion Tango" but its release was canceled as Dieter annonced the band's split in an interview (that even Thomas was not made aware of). You should definitely react to "Locomotion Tango" the music is great there (probably one of their greatest music ever) even if it has no music video.

Nora was Thomas's wife at the time. His first love. He always wore a necklace with her name, to scare away the female fans. To show that he is married and unapproachable. BTW so many girls were CRAZY about him around the world. He was considered to be super handsome, having an angelic kind of beauty.

This great and apocaliptic song is a mix of eurobeat, rock and disco. The composer(Dieter) is genius but unfortunately quite arrogant and unrespectful with some of the artists who worked with him. Try "Like a hero" which is a completely different Modern Talking song: great ballad with a poweful piano arrangement. Bonnie Tyler worked with him in the beginning of the 90s...Try "Against the wind" and "Silhouette in red" both composed by him for Tyler and probably his best creations ever.
I think this song is not darker because Dieter Bohlen saw Terminator or something similar. But because it more or less symbolizes the (first) break-up of the duo and the feelings about it. They were arguing even when the Jet Airliner video was made. It was only Thomas who sang at Bratislavská Lýra festival in May or June 87, and not only because Dieter had much work with music for other singers, but also because of the situation between them. The concratc ended in June and they decided not to renew it. But according to the contract, there had to be one more album made, so they made In The Garden of th Venus, with In 100 Years as the promo single. It can bee seen in the video, there is no shot with Thomas and Dieter together. I think they even recorded their parts apart in the studio. So this song is probably more about the end of the duo than about dark future, nuclear apocalypse, death, etc.
Yes its sad they did not get along but how ironic that Jet Airliner and In The Gardens Of Venus are musically their best albums (along with Ready For Romance) .... the sophisticated music instrumentations are simply out of this world with so much atmospheric vibes .... some of their most epic sounds can be found on this two albums (which of course includes Jet Airliner and In 100 years) ....
In 100 years and Jet Airliner are the most underrated songs of MT but I love them both. In my personal list they are in strait top MT songs. Now I'm waiting for your reactions "Sexy sexy lover", "Win The Race" and "No face, no name, no number". The last one doesn't have videoclip but it's great song in spanish style. I recommend it very much. Modern Talking recorded more great songs after reactivation.
Their two most epic sounding songs ever .... and the rest of the songs on the two albums are just so atmospheric in the most surreal way possible ... Songs like Charlene, Slow Motion, Operator Gimme 609, Who Will Save The World, Like a Hero, We Still Have Dreams, Good Girls Go To Heaven, Its Christmas .....

With all due respect to Aiden, his reaction was very dull and it was obvious that he is not interested in this music style. I felt that you did not give it all you got with this particular song as I know MT is a guilty pleasure for you, you were trying to react genuinely but at the same time, you were considering Aiden's reaction. With this song, the end of Modern Talking was already sealed. The videos were getting darker and darker and Thomas and Dieter were no longer together in front of a camera. There were hardly any live performances at that time. In the late '80s, other bands' songs became a bit more political, and Modern Talking tried to send a message as well. Apocalypse. But Modern Talking never stood for political statements. They made good mood songs that were good to dance to and played up and down in the discos. You got tired of hearing the same vocals over and over again, even though Thomas Anders has a great voice and is a brilliant live performer.
Ironically, In 100 Years was their best album (not the most popular but..) alongside the Jet Airliner album ... its less fluffy and heavier in sound ... too bad the average audience usually do not have enough appreciation for heavier stuffs ....

In 100 Years was their last single before they Split up and flopped at No. 30 in Germany. You should have prepared him with their signature song You're MY HEART, You're my soul which is a banger.

Dereck did say he would put Aiden on and see how it goes and for me and a dozen people on here are not feeling it! What we do know is we say how we feel about the situation. As I said if he wants to say hi on video fine but not be part of the reaction. I'm in UK in England ever been, last time went to Canada was way back in Spring of 2017 to Montreal 😁
their last song of the first decade and their biggest flop. in Germany they finally had enough of the escapades with Thomas and Nora. they just got booed. I really felt sorry for Dieter in this situation. Dieter starts his solo project "blue system" and had top ten and top 20 hits in Germany. Thomas had pretty much only flops. so now you have to react to "you can win if you want" and to "give me peace on earth". so you have all the singles of the first decade through.
Wouldn't call number 30 in the German singles chart a flop, also Thomas did have 1 hit single in the 80's which got top 30 number 24 with : Love of my Own! But other 2 singles failed to chart along with the album: Different, that tanked at number 87 in German album charts!
