I mean I can't complain. I got my halfday for under $50. I like the continuous zipper of the bag versus the multiple zippers. Also, I don't mind the 2 elastic pockets, I store my shoes in a shoe bag.
I hear you. My wife just bought the 40 L bag and loves it. I think my biggest hang up is having to unpack at my destination…. But that may just be a me thing.

Maaaaaan, I really appreciate this review. I bought the Halfday naively excited for having a great bag to bring my formal wear when I work weddings and private events. I also have ties, tie clips, button extenders, shirt stays, and other small accessories I need for my formal wear, all while having it efficiently transported in an easy , functional bag. Buuut, man was the Halfday bag super sloppy & not efficient with organization or shoe placement as I’m changing in bathroom stalls at venues. Just an absolute disappointment of a bag. I left an honest & constructive feedback review on their site (Giving it 3/5) and they have NOT posted it at all. So it leads me to think Halfday is a wary company moving forward, especially hearing you reached out to them & they said nothing. Thank you so much for this review. Getting rid of my Halfday & ordering this right away.
I am right with you on allllll parts. So easy for them to get right and their big update last week on their bag was “We now have it in Black.” They need a lot more than that! Enjoy the Moderne Gentleman bag!
I ordered mine and awaiting its arrival. This video was the main reason why I bought it over the Halfday, but I only have one concern. Is it truly a carry-on? The bag seems really large and it doesn’t seem like it would fit under the seat. I don’t have much experience flying, but I would assume a hard shell carry on wouldn’t fit under the seat either. So, if I took the moderne gentleman and a hard shell, would it all fit?? Hopefully that all makes sense.
Thx for the question Ethan, honestly no. Neither the Moderne Gentleman, the Halfday nor any garment duffel on the market would be an under the seat type of carry on. For example: I’m in Florida right now and flew a budget airline carrier. I bought a carry on (standard hardshell, Pullman suitcase). If I brought my Moderne Gentleman as a carry on, no problem…it’ll fit in an overhead. If I tried to bring it as my free “personal item” they flag it as it wouldn’t fit under my seat. Could you jam it in there? Perhaps. Those free personal items are generally 18x14x8 and garment duffels are definitely larger than that.
Found your page searching for reviews of the Halfday. I didn't even know there were competitors! Thanks to your reviews I opted for the Moderne Gentleman instead. Cheers!
The handles on the bag are they vinyl or leather? What kind of fabric do they use? A lot of pockets on this bag, very useful, many only have one or two and rarely do they have pockets on the outside, those are important for accessing things you need to grab in a pinch! Thanks for the review.
I completely agree...the pockets are vital for organization. I'm not sure exactly what type of fabric the bag is made out of...appears to be a polyester blend faux-canvas but it looks good, is waterproof and is lightweight. The handles are definitely not leather -more of a vinyl. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I don’t believe so. The MG bag will fit in an overhead but you’d really have to force it to fit under a seat…definitely not designed to be a “Personal Item”
Hi OCD, Great review. How would you compare the Modern Gent duffel with the Hook + Albert Black Canvas Garment Duffel Bag? I realize the H+A is a much higher price point, but what about the value of the bag for the price each is offered? Thanks, Bill
The only thing that's not great on the MG are the zippers...they take some time to break in but I've been told that they've improved them for new shipments. That said...at what, $460? I don't get what the H&A gives you. My biggest beef is they have the same dumb shoe side pockets, which just aren't going to work unless you have a very small shoe. MG's shoe compartment makes it a far better option in my opinion. The H&A is a great looking bag...but I'll take that $350 difference and put it into travel instead. Thanks for watching and commenting Bill!
The half day had some pretty bad 1 star reviews on its website. Glad I stumbled on both your videos. The MG looks clearly superior That said, watching these two videos back to back; you were clearly biased from the start of both videos..against halfday and for MG. I’m sure it helps that MG was a partnership huh.
Believe it or not I have an affiliate link pinned on Halfday top comment that pays double the MG link. MG sent me the bag and asked me for an honest review…. That’s the “partnership”… free bag so I had to disclose. I had to purchase two Halfday bags. It comes down to how the Halfday closes and its complete lack of organization.
Then for watching! Let me double check….i do it’s lockable but it’s a little more complicated because of the zipper structure and did likely need to lock it with two locks. Doable but not ideal
Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think. My advice is to practice a little in advance and if you have dry cleaning bags keep your clothes/jackets in there. People swear that it reduces wrinkles!
Great question and thanks for watching. I'm 6'1 and about 190 lbs, so I wear a 42-44 long. I think you can fit just about any size suit in but...much beyond a 46, I would assume you'd start to have it rub against the side...that said, larger suits would still fit, you'll just start to wrinkle a little more.
great call Nick! I'm working on a head to head with Halfday now and will certainly add that. Oddly enough - the bag weighs almost nothing - maybe 2-3 lbs? Very lightweight and easy to put away. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
@@theocdtraveleralso the MG bag that comes with wheel's like to know the wait, as some airlines is a 7kg or15.4lb then they charge you extra if it goes over that weight for carry on
5:25 tracking devices in my bags… no thanks. I don’t want Corporations that into my business. I know It’s impossible to avoid completely, but I’m not inviting it.
Dude. I swear I’ve tried. They just don’t work for me at all. I am able to use them on perfect length shirts, that’s the intent, to keep everything in place in just too tall or too short
