I read John Paul II's encyclical "Veritatis Splendor". It's actually quite good. It's about the objective moral requirements of the Ten Commandments. He criticizes abuses such as situational ethics and claiming that it depends on each person's "conscience". I have heard the claim made here that his writings support Universalism. I would appreciate knowing the actual document and section where this occurs.
My last NO mass did seem to be for entertainment. Sadly the presbyter, as you’ve called him wore different theme socks each Sunday and was very proud to lift the bottom of his pants to show us weekly and of course with the story of each why (a holiday, or secular day, etc.). You never really knew but I’m sure some people looked for to this entertainment???? So very sad.
They are trained in the manner of Protestant ministers. They are there to give the people a nice experience. They were not trained to offer a sacrifice to God in reparation for sin. They don't think in those terms, generally speaking.
