Question, is that bottom piece original to the table? It seems like a different color. Isnt 4 months equivalent to 30 percent? Just wondering. I love the end result! Also thank you so much for not smacking your camera with your hands for a transition. Love your channel
OMG Kathryn you are wearing the cutest dress to Home Depot. You look like you're going to brunch. Thanks for brightening my day with your video. YOU ARE ALWAYS ENOUGH!
That table really came out beautifully. You did such a great job. I'm looking for a table about that size for my entry way. I've been debating though because I have a cat, so I would have to be careful what I would display on it.....Love all your idea's Kathryn. ❤❤
Love how this came out! So pretty! Bleach is awesome to use in this manner. It really brings out the beauty of the wood. Just a safety moment, in case people aren't aware.( it's the nurse in me) Bleach can react dangerously with other chemicals, mainly ammonia. Also, please wear safety glasses, bleach can damage eyes if accidentally splashed in them (rinse eyes immediately with running cold water & seek medical care). Thanks for another great video!
Can cause allergies and sensitivity too. I hate the smell of bleach, gives me a headache and I develop a contact allergy when it touches my skin plus irritates my throat.
Yes, bleach and vinegar (she mentioned some use vinegar in the water to wash off the bleach) creates chlorine gas much like it does with ammonia, which can be lethal if inhaled in high amounts.
The table turned out so much more beautiful free of that yellowed varnish. I need that square sander! 🤣 You have inspired me to give this technique a try. I think it would turn my old nightstand (and drop leaf table, and bookcase etc) from drab to fab.
I love re-purposing furniture! Buying a hand sander was a game changer!! This turned out beautiful. I have never tried this technique, but now I need to.
I need that sander in my life! This girl loves power tools! 😉 The table looks so amazing Kathryn! I'm definitely motivated to try this type of my project myself! 🌺
@@michelleandino7309 Some people get bored of sanding... I AM ADDICTED to it. It's awesome!! U look young in ur thumbnail... which is awesome bc the younger u start the better at the craft u will be!!!
@Creative Renewal Yeah Girl I love that sander!!! I use it all day everyday. Yaye ur a reseller too!!! It's so much fun... I slow down in the summer tho bc UNFORTUNATELY we are in Arizona (1 year left, military family) and in the summer we reach Temps of 123 and I simply can't tolerate the heat. It sucks.
I'm pretty intimidated by furniture repair/altering in general, but I'm definitely interested in the how-to. This was super fun to see and I appreciate all the advice and info about the steps needed to be taken, start to finish. Love it. I like the color so much better once you bleached it. It brightened up the piece beautifully! Yay!
No matter what you are going through in life, wake up, and thank God for blessing you with another day in life. Have a Beautiful and Blessed day and week.
Bleach likes to evaporate quite quickly (especially in the sun). An easy way to extend this is to add some dish soap (like Dawn). This keeps it "wet" longer and allows it to dwell so you don't need to keep reapplying. Though, if it were me, I would have used a wood brightener (oxalic acid) so the wood's ph wasn't shifted so heavily like it is with bleach. Using bleach shifts it so heavily that any stain or clear coat will fail much sooner.
I used to clean my back deck with bleach. I realized many, many years ago, when I was pouring SHOCK into my pool , I spilled some on the decking. I watched it soak into the wood, which was cedar, and was absolutely amazed at what it looked like. The spill was maybe half dollar sized and the wood was sparkling clean and GORGEOUS! Well, pool shock is basically bleach. Now, I had no intention of using pool shock at $17.00 a gallon. So I bought some store brand ( Dollar Tree ) bleach, a couple of cheap paintbrushes and proceeded to clean my decking. I always used deck cleaner, which is also very expensive, to clean my deck. I also stained some of my decking with a mahogany stain. That was used for the seating area. No more. I was convinced that this was going to work! I was also convinced by an area the size of a half dollar, that this was going to be beautiful. Well, my husband was shocked when he came home that evening. He wanted to know who had replaced the decks and how much it cost. I told him that I did it, by myself, and the cost was about $18. My sitting area was 16’ x 24’. A separate deck ran around the pool and was about 5’ wide. The pool was about 15’ x 30’. Oh it was a LOT of work. The good news is, when I got REALLY hot and sweaty, I could dip in the pool. The bad news was I didn’t want to get out🤣 Well, the decks came out gorgeous, no professional needed, and not a lot of money. My husband was in shock. I kinda was too. It really looked like I had it professionally done. All with bleach. 🤣🤣🤣
It look’s great! Who knew bleach would work so beautifully. Great job.! I love your bubbliness. I’ll bet you can lift anybody’s spirit, your such a joy to watch. Ty.❤️❤️
I’ve been watching your channel for years now, and my friend if there’s one thing I can say about every episode or upload you bring to RU-vid. It’s that you NEVER disappoint! I love every craft and design/decor/and update a remodel you touch! Even if I sometimes curl my lip at something during the process. I can honestly say once you have finished, I’ve never not LOVED everything you do and present when you finish. So thank you!
A couple of weekends ago my daughter need a night stand. I had one but wrong color so we sand it and cleaned it and painted it. It was a very sturdy wood piece and I prefer older wood furniture too. Thank you for sharing tips, and being so encouraging. God Bless
I have that exact sander, and I love it, but I really recommend you start with an 80-grit sandpaper (then 120, then 220) to cut your sanding time down.
Great result! Good job! Glad to see you wear a respirator for the sanding. You need a real respirator for the bleach application. Your health is so precious, protect it to the fullest. Thanks again.
I absolutely love your videos. You are so amazingly helpful and such a pleasure to watch. I can't wait to try this on my old oak book shelf. Thank you thank you. 😊 💕
I am brand new to your channel but am so drawn to your sweet and uplifting spirit ! Thank you for being a light in the dark for people who need it. I'm off to check out some of your other videos.
With no dust extraction... 2/10 dust collection rating. Nothing quite like wearing bleached wood dust for the day... How about wearing gloves when handling chemicals like bleach? Or long pants for leg protection? I'll give a 3/10 for putting gloves on @ some point but points were taken for the short dress.
Your table looks amazing...you & your husband did a wonderful job! As always Kathryn, thank you so much for sharing all of your hard work & tips! Stay safe, healthy and positive! God bless you and your family!🙏❤🇺🇸😊
Thank you for the encouragement over the sander. I really want to be good at DIY and the encouragement is so helpful. Maybe you could recommend a nail gun??
I love this!! My bed and armoire/chest is dark, dark oak. I thought about painting white. This will look beautiful! Thank you for another fantabulous idea! What is the paint color on your walls? I’m about to paint my house. Changing a lot around here! I’m painting the stained trim white and want a nice, neutral color to go on the walls. It looks taupe but was wondering about exact color. Thank you! God bless!
I love this because my daughter has a table that my Mom gave her and she doesn't think she wants it anymore. I wasn't sure what I was going to do to it but I knew it is a handmade piece and I was taking with me when we move cross country this year . Now I know! Thank you for another great idea , you are full of them 😀 . Love & prayers 🙏🏻 ❤
Beautiful! I have things in my home that would like great sanded and bleached. We were thinking about buying new pieces just to bring our decor up to date! No need now just a little elbow grease! Thanks so much for all you do!!!!
You need a dremmel! I have a good one that has a few speeds. So versatile! I use it to get in grooves of furniture, grind metal bits off of some of my projects, and to grind down my pupper’s hard nails. (It was cheaper that a good nail grinder too!)
Wow!!! So beautiful!!! I am literally walking around my house right now trying to find something to do this to! I think a trip to habitat for humanity in gastonia is in store this weekend. Thanks Kathryn!!❤
I'm a fan of you even my 6 year old subscribed to your channel... You are so Great at what you do. I have learned so much from you and always trying your ideas and making your projects ☺️
@@jmsl910 I use Behr paint. That paint has primer in it already. It's also a good quality paint. Majority of the time I use semi gloss, because I like to be able to wipe away any spills. Chalk paint tends to keep dust, and I personally don't like that. First I clean the surface with TSP, it's a solution to clean wood. I allow it to dry. Them I sand the furniture just as she did in the video. After sanding I wipe again with rubbing alcohol. Let dry. Then paint, 2 coats works well.
My Queen Anne style chair I picked up cheap 2nd hand… I tried painting it, paint/sand distressing it but just wasn’t happy with either only to be disappointed again when I decided to sand right back and discover a hideous pretty much orange wood. At a loss I thought I’d give this a go and wow. It came out better than I had imagined!!!! Thank you
That table is just beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. You are just so creative and as cute as can be! I just love watching your videos and seeing your beautiful family.
Oh I LOVE THIS!!! I’ve never been an oak fan because of the yellow undertones and the grain never seems right but after sanding and bleaching your table has none of those issues. Thank you so much for trying and sharing this, I’ve learned something new today - and that’s a day well spent!!
Kathryn, you have inspired me, I think I'll have to get a square sander now. You've done an amazing job on the console table, I couldn't believe that the bleach was able to lift the colour of the table. Wishing you and your family and Do it on a Dime family a very happy Easter xx
I didn’t think I look at habitat for humanity and I surely didn’t know they had their items online! I’ll be looking tonight! Thanks for another great one!!
GET OUT!!! this is sssooo cool!! I have been wondering what to do with my table top that just looks old and worn...I was going to paint..now I am gonna bleach it!! Very fun..thank you so much...love your table too!
Love how the top and legs turned out! (The bottom shelf had such a weird grain pattern that was nothing like the top... was wondering if anything could be done to subdue the garish grain pattern on the shelf and bring it more in line with the way the top looks? I suppose if the table was a more quality piece you could veneer over it...? Probably not worth the cost.)
I just love your energy, your my kind of a girl, I could have a ball just thrift shopping & doing projects with you.Keep sending your great jobs to help us that want to figure it out,Great Job
