People always get disconfused but it is not a 5 round limit it is only 5 round limit when you are using it explicitly for hunting. You can even attach 2x10 round magazines together bottom to bottom to bottom to bottom to bottom so that you can pull it out turn it around and pop it back in once you have converted your mag well to accept AR magazines.
@@Curtis.Carpenter If the ammunition you are firing is centrefire you can only have 5 rounds if the gun is semiautomatic. There is no debate there, they teach you that over and over again in the course to get the PAL.
I have about 800-900 rounds through my ATI Strikeforce Chinese SKS and I haven't had a single issue with anything, even after repeated cleaning and taking the grip off multiple times. I always use blue loctite on the grip screw. Seat the screw then give it less then a quarter turn to seat the threads without stripping it. That's how all fasteners should be done when they seat in plastic. Mine has never loosened in over a year. Hopefully you're happy with your SKS now. Happy shooting man.
Wait wat...u have 5 rounds in a 20 round mag.....dam is canada out there shooting with you...wtf ...dam y'all are scared of the government.....geesh...Canada is not out there with you...
Question: From all the videos I've seen, after-market mags won't lock the bolt open and you have to manually hold it open, in order to drop or insert a new mag. Did you modify your sks at all? or do those Tapco mags have a hold open device built in?
No, I didn't have to modify my sks. I have lots of people asking this question tho... With the Tapco mags the gun operates the same way it did from factory...bolt open. Hope this helps?!?
winnipegjohnston Help a lot, thanks! I wonder if it may only hold the bolt open when using certain aftermarket mags, or if you need to have an after market stock installed. I've seen loads of videos where guys have to manually hold the bolt open in order to drop the mag out and insert a new one. Pain in the ass really.
Josh Taylor seriously that's exactly what i thought... maybe they're worried about someone in a mall or theatre setting???? idk, really dumb though. like you said we'll stick to our drum mags lol. god bless man
I put a Tapco stock on my SKS and it is a solid piece. I also added the short vert grip from Tapco as well as the 10 round mag (20 round look). I had to install a pin in the mag to keep it from being removable due to Komifonia law. Check out the video I made of it if you are interested. I believe it is a much better stock than the ATI. SKS Tapco stock and mag install.wmv
To fix your grip I would use a brass bushing with a machine screw or even better call tech support at ATI they are great people and they will take care of the problem and they also know the time you spent dealing with the issue and they credit you for that as well ATI is A+++ with customer support and product replacement
Purepain76 Super glue at the dollar store works. Been keepin mine sturdy since I first put it together. 450 rounds later now and it fell off the rack twice by accident mind you.
I just read the muzzle break reduces recoil but does it make it quieter as well. I thought the SKS was a little louder. Sorry I'm a noob. But I love your sks. Its sooooo cleaann!!
Its looks good with the ATi stock but thats weak with the pitiful little grip screw. I do really like my Tapco stock and I have had no serious issues with it on my SKS.
How's the grip been since you fixed it? I just picked up an sti stock want to see what works before I get into messing with it. I'm thinking take a Dremel to the front of the pistol grip to make a slot for disassembly to get the trigger group out. and permanently attaching the pistol grip after not sure how it's gonna go so let me know what you did as a fix
Put some thread locktite, or even locktite superglue?and I bet ya it’ll hold for a long time! Don’t get disappointed easily and tether use your disappointment to become better by trying to solve things and don’t let anything get you. You’ll be stronger and will improve even in shooting your guns! All the best!
Youll have to retap the threads and use locktite to secure the bolt/screw. Had a Norinco SKS. Get the recoil buffer. its a small rubber insert that you put in the back of the reciever. reduces recoil a good bit. theres also a magwell adapter so you dont need to use the duckbilled mags. check em out.
just got done with adding a combat knife to my ati triforce stock. its all black and i did a bolt mod to fit magazines sim to a ak 47. i put a 20 round magazine black on it. and a tri rail dust cover i mounted a hunting scope. and put a tommy gun front handle bi pod grip. soon it will get a black and grey urban tiger camo job.
Thanks! Glad I could help. I was and still am disappointed with the poor design of the pistol grip on this ATI stock. I did do some modifications to it so it is now rock solid, but it should be solid right out of the box. Good luck!
The muzzle break installs quite easily actually... just remove the sight pin, slide on muzzle break, replace sight pin that came with muzzle break (must be SKS specific). Cheers
@Jim Johnson Sounds like your follower is not extending the whole way after your last round is fired. Its possible that seeing as you have tried it with different magazines, there is something inside the magwell that is out of place, preventing the follower from reaching the top. If that is not the case, then your bolt is not going completely to the rear after firing.
You should back up. And I would dump the laser and get a light. Dump the 20 rd for 10 round if u can only have 5 and it looked like the vfg was a little loose
btw hope you don't mind me copying your build? But I was wandering which version sks u have? And I really like the color. I don't like the wooden look? Can u help me build a mock up sks? Maybe through email. Also which version meaning Chinese?Russian? Yugo? If u can rely than thanks.
Good report on that ATI. I was thinking about it. I wonder if you could epoxy a threaded insert into the stock in order to tighten the pistol grip better. Seem a fixed 5 round factory style box would be better to handle.
I had an ATI stock for my shot gun and I was disappointed with it as well. It was loose even though I tightened it a few times. I had to file away parts of the pistol grip because it was putting to much pressure on the trigger guard and was causing problems with the safety and loading.I will prob never get another ATI stock. For my sks I put a TAPCO stock on it and I love it! No problems what so ever and I also put a TAPCO vertical grip on it, again I have had no problems. I recommend you try out the TAPCO stock. I do like the color of your ATI stock though. :)
Do you know how to disassemble the mag "for cleaning" If you don't I can tell you how, this will also help for if and when zombies rise. Have you ever tried the Promag 40 round mags? Obviously pinned to 5 here but it's a 40 round body.
I put 700 rounds through mine the first time i had the ati stock on and no problems. But I did buy the older version ATI- SKS8000 and the older one actually allows the TapCo mag to insert without any grinding on the stock. I think your problem lies with that scorpion recoil pad, the pistol grip being in 2 parts has to weaken it and put alot of stress on that one screw holding it in place.
this Is an older video but I have same gun. And have had no problem with my Tapco stock. Everything remained tight. Remain Locked Cocked and Ready to Rock.😎
bill salcido i had to get one cause the 10/5 round box mag would spit the last bullet out the feed lips were warn out completely so i just got a tapco mag and it looks badass 2
Loctite the screw in the handle and cut a piece of metal to size and put it through the hole on the fore grip... I had the same things happen and both were easy, free fixes.
the Tapco stock is a great combination for the magazines. With this Stock, the rail upon the top of the gas tube cover is useless. for the sks, in my opinion, sks all the way.......except for the scope mount they offer. still! great video! :)
What did you do to keep the bolt open when finished shooting? I have an SKS with ATI stock using the Tapco mags and I have to hand set the bolt open to insert the magazine and hold the bolt open when finished shooting to remove the mag and then repeat. It is still faster than the 10 round box mag but I would like it to function like yours.
experimented with a tapco stock....went back to the original wooden stock. I went to a plastic stock to preserve the original...but the weight balance was thrown way off....the rifle felt front heavy. Thats just me, I am more of a purest...I rarely modify my firearms and when I do its only minor modifications that actually help contribute to functionality as opposed to "looks bad ass man"
yeah agreed, Mag load restrictions suck. What also sucks is having import bans and restrictions forcing Americans to have to drop 500+usd $ for the same rifle Canadians pay 145$ usd equivalent.
+Shawn Scott Don't worry man...guys like him in Canada only SHOW you the their pegged high cap mags. They ain't dumb enough to show you how easy it is to unpeg them. They know the CROWN is watching.
Cool weapon, but let me weigh in with a remark or two please. Generally speaking, ATI and UTG products are less than quality. For the pistol grip, you can use the same type of screw/receptacle often used to mount a light bar on a vehicle. It keeps you from continually upsizing your attachment screw due to future failures. On your forward grip (providing you feel you must keep one), try getting a "grip pod". They're solid, and they have a push button bipod option. Question: If you're only allowed a 5 round capacity, why the extended mag? Like I said, good rifle, so don't trash it because of substandard accessories. Happy trails, tight groups and safety first.
why the extended mag ... well #1 because most Canadians just drill out the rivet ..and glue a rivet face back on ..# 2 manufactures don't have to go to the expense of making a special "tactical" looking short 5 round ...and most importantly #3 It looks cool as hell ! safe shooting !
I have heard allot of negatives on many ATI stocks, I have a Tapco for the SKS and so far no issues. However I prefer the stock versions I have to these modifieds
I just installed this today. My pistol grip wiggles too. I'm REALLY disappointed about how something so important is held on with just one little screw..
Interesting.... I ended up fixing mine by putting a screw on either side of pistol grip into the stock plastic. It seems rock solid now. IMO, still unnacceptable from a reputable company such as ATI. Hopefully they address this problem so guys like us don't have to "McGruber" it. Cheers mate : )
Try using a small washe and a brand new screw buddy of mine had simular problem with pistol grip and i did that for him and he couldnt be happier cheers from a nova scotian
Y'know, I think that's the kind of rifle the Chinese Red Guard from _Command & Conquer: Generals_ would use instead of the Type 56. Especially when it is equipped with a pistol grip and 20-round box magazine. The only thing is missing is a bayonet.
I have experienced the same issue with the grip. Great stock but that pistol grip is lacking. The UTG however has not failed me yet. overall though gotta love that setup
No, I ended up modifying it by adding a screw on either side of the pistol grip. It's solid now but over all I'm still not impressed and don't have much confidence in this ATI stock. A new stock is in the cards, unfortunely.
you take the hand grip off on my chotate ( need Allen wrench) than it unlocks out of the stock body like the wooden one. push detnt at the back of trigger guard is covered up with pistol grip. I wish you guys could get a cholate up there. Love my cholate folder SKS +30rd pro mags. freken runs like a jackhammer!
It's a 20 round Tapco magazine limited to 5 rounds for Canada. And yes it does lock the bolt back. It's not an AK magazine. The "conversion" consists of removing the built in steel magazine and replacing it with a Tapco or other detachable one. Look up Tapco SKS magazine and you'll see the difference.
My ATI pistol grip is loose to, far as I can tell its a common problem. My Tapco mag wouldn't load right come hell or high water so I took it back the same day lol.
MechRider89 HUSH now Lad don't be saying nuthin bout modifying mags here on this very public auditorium. In Canada the Gov and RCMP love crashing down doors if someone admits to or suggests modifying say a Glock stick mag pinned at 10 but it now holds 33 like it was supposed to even. Just for an example eh? not to mention Pmags either which hold 30...eh?
Good question, based off Wikipedia's length of stock SKS,and a quick look at ATI specs its probably about 28 inches. I don't actually have the gun or stock, just an educated guess.
cholo ramos u can get nice stocks without the folding option but the sks is perfect for California cause it takes stripper clips i live under some bullshit gun control laws but none as bad as the bullet button to eject the magazine
dude 10 round pistol mags easy on any ar556 on sks you have to buy the adaptor which is about 150 cnd mags here in Toronto at alflahertys are about 30 or so I paid 185 for my sks the adaptor is almost as much as the rifle
To tighten up the grip just remove the grip and wrap the matting surface of the grip with a couple wraps of electrical tape and it will hold nice and right, I've had the same issue and have put over 1000 rounds since and it's still nice ant tight, as fat as the fore grip I have the same one and had never come loose, might just be a poor unit from factory, good video Canadian gun laws suck but Saskatchewan rules lol happy shooting.
richard little I have one on now and HATE it. Too long,Too heavy and it makes carrying it a bitch with a scope, bipod, foregrip added on. I took the buttstock off to shorten and lighten it up. Still came in at 28 inches and legal in Canuck land. I was happy switching it over to an ATI stock.Granted the T6 it is a quality piece of plastic but the ATI beats it in many ways most notable being the folding stock and overall weight. In my humble opinion and with respect to yours.
Remember nothing a "freedom drill" can't fix haha. The pins are held in with what might as well be glue all it would take is someone with 5 minutes of time and a drill. As a Canadian let's just say me and my small community of firearms lovers always have our drills on charge and are ready to go!
