Great list! I would put them in a different order, personally... 1. Lift pump. 2. EGR delete & tune. 3. Downpipe & exhaust. 4. Cold air intake (if LLY, replace turbo inlet pipe as #2). BONUS: Tires (assuming stock/worn).

Het sorry for being ignorant , but from what I seen I’m under the impression that a tune and delete takes life out the truck due to the transmission and and such nit being able to handle it . Why would you wanna do that ?

@@JOSE20805that’s only the case if you put a high horsepower tune on. There are towing, economy and stock options that will actually make everything better assuming it’s professionally tuned and not a box tuner.

Personally I would put the air intake last. The stock intake is good for around 500hp.

Eh on an LLY changing to the S&B inlet is huge on its own; you might as well go full send. I couldn't believe how much coller & better air flow my truck had after an S&B Dry Filter + Inlet.

Spot on List TM, Great Video Sir. Here is how I did my LMM; (1st) CAI & Edge CTS2 W/EGT Probe (2nd) PCV Reroute (3rd) PPEI Tunes W/DSP5 switch & 4" MBRP Exhaust W/DPF deleted (4th) Fass 165 Lift Pump & PPEI Race fuel plug. …… And all I can say is HANG ON WHEN YOU SEND IT!!!!!

The CAI would be the last mod I would do the OEM air box and mouthpiece make really good power well up to and beyond 500hp range, love my wc fab intake yea the metal absorbs hot air but cant beat the quick spool up Lift pump, exhaust, efi,egr delete, absolute must have 👍🏻

The very first thing you get is a lift pump. Personally, I’m not a big fan of tuning. Iv seen a lot of my buddies with 0 issues with there trucks, turn around and tune them and all of a sudden they are spending thousands. If these trucks were designed to run like these tunes make them run, then they would of made them run that way from the factory. I agree with the race valve and the ported fuel valve they did wonders for my 06 LBZ. Cold air intakes are a preference thing, the stock is sufficient enough for sure. I don’t run my truck hard just because diesels are not cheap to repair and just breaking stuff for no reason isn’t my thing.

I put the 4 inch wcfab intake on my lbz duramax and I think it make my turbo brake work a little better. Seems to slow me down quicker( or it’s just waaay louder) either way it looks bad ass.

Josh one thing I would start with is dropping the fuel tank to clean it then fuel filtration and injectors then air intake and exhaust then go through the axels then transmission and transfer case then engine head stud kit then tune then upgraded turbo with new tune

Why is an oil bypass system never mentioned?? If you want to increase the life of the engine and increase time between oil change intervals (thereby saving money), then this should be very high on the list. Not everyone is looking to get 1000hp. A lot of us want their trucks to last.

I can give first world experience on an EGR delete. Put PPE tuner set on number 2(no alteration to transmission needed). 14,056 lb triple axle trailer 40' long. EGR: 7.5-9.5 mpg. Best was 10.5 mpg. Without EGR. 10-11 all day long. Best was 13 mpg. Speed was 64-70 mph. Didn't force to go faster than conditions would allow. Going up passes like Montana, Idaho, Washington doing as slow as 35-45 mph. This is just for additional reference.

I’ve been watching your videos and you do a great job. My wife and I just purchased a 2011 Chevy 3500 Dualy. It’s all stock and I purchased an extended warranty and they asked me if any modifications were done and I told him no but I would like to make some if possible. How do you deal with this issue and still make some modifications?

Tie rod sleeves Traction bars Transgo jr shift kit I wouldn't recommend the fuel race valve. It's a safety. If you're FPR malfunctions you could start splitting components open. Best bet is to shim it or a new Bosch one is like $150. Also the only reason your fuel has air in it is BECAUSE of your lift pump. The fass, air dogs etc create as many issues as they help. Kennedy twin lift pumps are the way to go. Won't airrate the fuel, no 1/4 tank issues, no need to drill a hole in the tank bottom etc. And they are good to 800ish hp.

The description says you have the FASS fuel sump kit. Did you get rid of the beans sump?

Really the first thing you should do is the lift pump... absolutely. thats going to take a strain off of the CP3. the race valve is whatever... its essentially blocking return so yea if you have a difference between desired and actual fuel pressure you might have other problems but stock air box definitely and the rest is great but yes lift pump 1st if youre going to tune

Just bought a 2006 with the LLY/LBZ. Technically a LLY but has the upgrades that gives it 605ft lbs of torque. On a budget so it will be piece meal upgrades for towing. Thanks brother, love your videos!

Be smart, and think about what else you can do while your truck is apart. The real key is the budget. Try and wait for the bigger parts like turbo, but cheap things like rail plug, pcv, resonator delete, Pump rub kit and lift pump are immediately needed. Once you decide to egr delete might as well do down pipe, up pipe, turbo, y bridge and intake.

Have you replaced the driver side exhaust manifold? Pistons 4 and 6 have a indentation for the clearing of the steering rod. After I found that out, my OCD kicked in and I had to replace mine.

The lly duramax is the only one with the restrictive mouth piece. The rest can get away with stock mouth piece. you only flow 10-15 percent more with a aftermarket mouth piece.

I just did the egr delete on my 06 LLy now I have 5 different check engine codes from that. It hasn’t been put into reduced powered mode luckily. It has a fuel pressure sensor code to now. I probably should’ve did all the other mods first but I didn’t so🤷

ReilAngler 1999 yes 2006 and up really any truck. Never remove or a part without tuning. You can finger stick the truck for like 50 bucks and it should clear the codes. Not the best fix but works

I have a lmm truck that needs a new engine any recommendations to do while the new engine is getting replaced besides the delete and tuner, I’m buying a long block and was planning on switching over the injectors, turbo, radiator, etc

What about if your truck has the open hood part that sucks it in over on that side what’s a good one for that because like my 2021 the hood has that kind of like a Cowell in the front that sucks it in and channels it over there

Eh stock intake is perfectly fine up until ~500HP, been talked about over and over. Really surprised you said this as the first upgrade to do.

Stock intake is trash man, as soon as you upgrade it, the sound and feel of the new intake is extremely noticeable. My lly had very small low end pedal surge and the intake and turbo mouthpiece really helped make it go away almost

This is of subject. I have a stock LB7 and i was pushing 80mph down interstate and a sound came about like a old diesel or almost like a big rig taking off with all the air noise like a hair dryer. What might have caused that please?

@@nathanmescher6840 Semi's use Jake Break's or trans breaks. These breaking systems (which yes do come on new trucks) MUST be designed into the motor be. They work off of back pressure, and I have seen plenty of DIY installs litterally blow up a motor.

I just bought my very first diesel, an ‘06 LBZ with 49k miles. It’s destined to tow my camper for many, many years (hopefully). Which of these mods are geared more toward racing and power rather than just utility? I’m happy with the power it’s putting down... just looking for some aftermarket improvement/insurance, if you will.

Same here… I got an 06 new and it’s been yanking my 5er since then. Mine is completely stock because I live in the oppressive socialist state of Kalifornia. Can’t really entertain any of these mods because of the push back I get from the smog stations. Yes, they make you “smog” your diesels out here. They jump in it and rev the motor and look for “smoke” out of the pipe. How arbitrary is that?!!? Anyhow, good luck.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, i've read through forums and no answers. At what point do you need a tune? Can you do an intake, downpipe and exhaust without a tuner? I wasnt sure if it would cause problems like on turbo gas cars or not.

What's up truck master I don't own a diesel as of yet but I still thought I would ask this question because the truck is a truck pretty much other than the motors I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe which my four by four stop working so I looked up on RU-vid such problems for that and it said more so that it might be the actuator so I change that and I still have no 4 by 4 would you happen to have any solutions to the situation as of now I will appreciate any help that you might have thanks again and keep up the good work I look forward to seeing you and your wife in the garage working together thank you.

I bought a 05 duramax that has that switch all it says is "duramax tuner" it has the 5 switches but how do I figure out what tune is what? Are they all the same? Are they programmable?

Just go to duramax tuners website. They only have like two options. So it will give you and idea. You can also call them with the vin and ask. But it could have been flashed over possibly. Idk if it’s possible on an Lly or not. Lbz and up I know can be directly flashed over no issues. Earlier truck can be ecm locked.

Okay a question on the EGR delete. So I have a fairly stock 06 LBZ. I want to delete mine cause I have an exhaust and a “cold” air intake for K&N. Wouldn’t you want to take all the piping and inter cooler off and wash out all the recycled gasses? Cause in my train of thought. If it’s that bad and my truck has just clicked 200 thousand wouldn’t it be restricted? . Am I right/on the right path or an idiot? I appreciate anyone that can read this monstrosity of a comment and lead feed back. I would just change all the parts I listed to clean but I’m tight on money. I can’t afford my daily to fail on me. Crawltheworld you will only have issues post EGR valve as that is where the exhaust gas is introduced back in to the intake. Everything from the turbo to the EGR valve will have some amount of oil in it due to the PCV system. I wouldn’t remove all the piping personally unless you have an extreme amount of oil but you shouldn’t. Pulling intake piping from the EGR valve to the y-bridge would be a better bet to clean if you feel so inclined. I would recommend a SDP, HSP, or WCFAB charge pipe and y bridge for bed results and don’t forget an “LB7 style up pipe” for the passenger side ( blocker plates will bite you).

Ref: 07.5 LMM I noticed you are running a 20 psi coolant cap. My truck owned since 30K miles had a 15 psi cap. Went to the dealer to get a new cap and they said the 20 psi cap is the correct cap per VIN parts search. Which is the Correct cap? Which cap is the group running? Thank You Great Info!

The engine bay heat really has no effect on it honestly as a Diesel mechanic for well over a decade I've built a ton of performance oriented trucks for people it's more about how much air the filter can flow than it is heat it's great to have both but the difference is negligible at best the only place you'll even see it is MAYBE on a Dyno you will absolutely never feel a difference driving and once you are cruising down the road it's ambient temp air is getting pushed into/through your engine bay anyway

Also I commented on one of your other videos on how to keep the cat adapter to stay with the filter housing instead of coming off with the filter. Have any suggestions to that.

@Jose Luna if you do the ybridge kit you will no longer have the egr or the cooler. You will be left w the blocker plate unless you do the lb7 up-pipe. Make sure to check your state’s emissions laws, don’t get caught with your pants down.
