What a phenomenal piece. If I had heard without knowing I would have said Vaughan Williams/Delius. Let me be frank - have never heard any Moeran before this - now I will look up more. Excellent stuff Colin.
Glad you like it Jezzy. Moeran didn't write as much music as VW. He was badly wounded in World War I and never properly recovered. Stand-out pieces are his magnificent Symphony in G, a Sinfonietta, concertos for cello and for violin and various smaller orchestral works. Happy exploring!
A rather neglected composer but creator of beautiful music infused with the English tradition. He was close to Warlock. His life was somewhat blighted by alcoholism.
