Thank you so much for the valuable information. I never didn't a factory reset or modular reset. This has totally changed my interface and fixed many of my problems. I only did the standard remote update and thought that worked like my last cheapo Netgear router did. Great walkthrough as well. Many thanks.
That band aggregation is pretty amazing. Your -dbm was pretty yucky, but after tweaking the bands and scanning, you got 24mb for a speed connection. Wow!
Great Video. Thank you for it. Can I ask, have you had any issues with a 5500 that has great reception just deoppin every 10-15 minutes for no reason?.. if so, were you able to fix it.. My 4g coverage is really good here and my 4500 stays conneced constantly
Wow. I finally get it ! I've been using Verizon LTE for home internet for a couple years, and I've been doing it without aggregation... my god, all those years and all those GBs of download speed lost... lol. Thanks for a great video! I'm already shopping for my new router WITH band aggregation.
i have 2 5500s and 1 4500 i use on remote sites and would love to figure out how to make them all one network to access from my office. any advice would be appreciated.
is there a setting within the unit that would always optomize the best bands for a mobile solution? Say you have a unit in a vehicle that may transition from county to county within a state... Obviously in those cases many factors will change (terrain, towers, etc). Are there any videos out there for mobile configs of mofi?
Yes! That is the "speed band lock" which starts at 15:08 of this video. You can run that every time you move or change location and it will optimize the bands you are using for the best speed at each location. Is that what you were asking? Alternatively, we now have a new "quad carrier router" that has 4 carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, and US Cellular) all in one router. That one will automatically optimize not only bands, but also which carrier is best all on its own even as you are driving down the road. For more info, check out our website at www.ezcom.us
This video is very well done. MOFI should pay you to do there tech support. I am considering buying the MOFI 5500 EM7690 to replace my 4500. If I purchase the MOFI 5500 from your web site you charge a $20.00 Set Up fee. What does the setup include. Don't get me wrong I think its worth the $20.00 just for the support. Do you have the EM7690 in stock and ready to ship?
Yes we do have them in stock and ready to ship. The setup includes making sure it has the latest firmware on the unit. Also, if you tell us which provider you have (AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, etc) or if you purchase service from us, then we will also set all the settings and bands specific to that provider for you so that it is fully updates, setup, and ready to take out of the box and use. You also get our tech support if ever needed. Thanks!
The custom APN is SUPER EASY to do (answer is yes). The custom IMEI can be done (only by the end user) and is possible, but a bit harder to do. There is a utility to do it, and it is legal (I am told by the manufacturer)
The magenta max plan is a plan for phones. If you put that chip in this router, it would use the hotspot data potion of the plan (which I believe is only 100gb). For an unlimited plan, check our website. We have them for you.
Tryign to use a 5g enabled sim from T-Mobile. I have 5 g signal on my phone in my hosue but my 5500V1-EM7690 does not show me any 5g section to connect to 5G towers
the 7690 model is NOT a 5G router..... it does not have 5G radios in it. It will never get a 5G signal. So the problem there is you have the 4G/LTE only model (no 5G).
Verizon (direct from Verizon) does not have an "unlimited date hotspot plan" that you can get. The plan we are using is a wholesaler plan available to only us at www.ezcom.us which we refer to as "the red plan". It is a truly unlimited plan.... and if you have the Mofi 5500-9191 model, then it will work on 5G as well which is super nice. Hey Suzy, You can go to any online retailer and get a USB ethernet adaptor for around $10. That is what I use for my travel laptop. Very cheap and very handy. There are MANY out there, but here is an example for you: www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-1000-Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00M77HMU0
I am so sorry, I keep answering this for people and it seems to keep disappearing. Lets try it this way: ezcom.us/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/19/Chart-of-4GorLTE-and-5G-bands-used-by-Major-USA-Carriers.html
Hi thank you for making this video. I did all the steps in setting up my mofi 5500 and configured everything right to be used on visible wireless network, but I am getting slow speeds (In kbps) when downloading and streaming on my devices when connected to the mofi
Hello Mario, The short answer is..... not really.......but this will require a bit of an explanation...... The first part to understand is congestion. If you are in an area that has a LOT of usage on a tower, then that is like the highway analogy but being in a big city in rush hour.... changing lanes does not matter much if the entire highway is jammed up full of cars/people. If you are a mobile user (like living in an RV) then moving to the next area may offer some improvement. HOWEVER...... Visible is an "MVNO"..... meaning even though it uses the Verizon towers, it is not "actually" verizon (even though in this case visible is owned by verizon). Basically this means that visible lines are set to "low priority" all the time. They do not consider that a "premium user" by any means (hence the super low price). It will always be slower than true verizon plans. Now... that being said.... the chip is meant for a phone... and it is a phone plan.... not a hotspot data plan. I get it, it has a hotspot ability... but it is not "meant" for that. If you look in their terms of service and description, they officially say that the hotspot is throttled to no more than 5mb and only for 1 device at a time. To be fair, they have not been enforcing that, but as the are getting much bigger, it is likely that they will.... or maybe have already started..... so... you have a few things stacked against you there. Its a low priority plan (always slower than real plans), it is throttled (or supposed to be anyway), and it is a phone plan and not meant for a hotspot (though yes, you obviously can do that). in your case I would highly recommend taking a look at our Verizon plans. We have a new one (though we are very short on chips, so be sure to communicate that you want to use a mofi) that will work in a mofi...... previously that was not allowed, but now we are allowed to do that. They are high priority plans.... and they are real hotspot plans. So MUCH MUCH better for what you are wanting to do. Take a look at www.ezcom.us and let us know if you have any more questions.
Best to contact us as we can also send you a free MOFI Wireguard VPN to try. Most customers are getting good speeds on Visible but the latency is not good on Visible
@@MarioLopez-nt3ib i have a T Mobile plan and at first, my mofi was quite slow and not really better than a low end router. Once I put the Waveform 2 x 2 mimo antenna to it and iterated through all the possibilities (have you set ttl = 65?) and gone through all the possible combinations of towers, it became very fast. I'm super impressed with this router. So impressed, in fact, that I called MOFI and they are letting me send this $499 router back and upgrade to the $699 5g router. I went from 2-4 mbs on satellite to 25-40 mbs. Can't wait to see what the 5g model (9191) will do. Good luck.
How do I restrict the bandwidth used by others? I have the 5500 and my work PC is wired directly to the router (LAN1). I have wifi disabled on the Mofi itself, and I have 3 wifi APs connected to LAN ports 2,3 & 4. I need all the bandwith I can get for work, and limit what everyone else gets (at least from 8 to 5) I know there are QoS traffic control options, but I can't find any good explanations on how to use them for this. I think the default behaviour people want is to make streaming better. I want the opposite, I want to make everyone's streaming suffer so I can pay their streaming bills!
The Mofi router is fantastic. It is the best there is in our opinion. We have MANY customers that use it for online gaming. Keep in mind, besides the router, you also need a good cellular plan.... like our unlimited Verizon plan. We would love to help you out!
What is wild is my old mofi 4500 was getting 45-60mbps down and this new 5500 with the carrier aggregation I only get around 10-13mbps. Makes no sense.
not terribly surprising unfortunately...... but very likely it has more to do with the carrier and not the router. A LOT of carriers have been "slowing down" their plans lately with no good reason (they won't admit it either)
