Comparisons to others are really an awful way to talk about an artist. I've seen shoddy solo's by Jaco and Wooten. Mohini Dey is obviously investigative and playful, and her solo journey belongs to her. It's not her job to pull a listener 'in'. It's the listener's job to enter and listen.

Prolific Youthful Eloquent Genius ! Her playing reflects the essence of her youthfulness, basking in the joy of being young and in developing her unlimited human potential on her chosen instrument! Hers is the musical language of Youth! I sincerely felt YOUNG again ( I am a 63yr old elec. bass player) while listening to this solo and enjoyed it immensely! Life is NEVER stagnant and I am looking forward to her eternal evolution as a musician and a human being...as within, so it is in her external realm.

Why must people insist on comparing musicians and arguing about which is best? This musician is obviously very talented. The world already had its Jaco. It already has a Victor. It doesn't need another of either. I am looking forward to listen as she continues to evolve into Mohini Dey

She is a virtuoso, but her undeniable technical prowess masks a lack of melodic sensitivity. It's not the quantity of notes you can play in the shortest time that counts, but the emotion you can put into each single note. For me this kind of performance is closer to the circus than to Music with a big M.

The bass guitar is supposed to give bass. The sound of a bass guitar is not smooth enough to give melody. You keep this same bass guitar performance and add accoustic guitar and drum over it and you will get an incredible music.

You can clearly hear her Idols (Victor, Jaco,...) but she still has to find her own voice. Often she sounds like practicing... I know she has a massive talent but she needs to go a bit deeper to pull out the good stuff

She does not hitting any strides until the 5:50 mark. Other than that, I was not feeling it. Her time signatures need work as well. I like her though, don’t get me wrong! I would offer Doug Wimbush instead.

And no, I don't care what gender either is, the technique is not difficult for Mr. Wimbish and all I'm saying is that I hope Ms. Dey can develop the kind of 'whatever it is called' to move into the territory of a solo like the aforementioned link. She has the skills, she has the time, she has the access to the gear...or maybe that's just her style and I better get used to it. In that case, Ms. Dey is only adept at moving her fingers, not my heart and soul.

Obviously her talent is being recognized because she is now playing with some of the best musicians in THE WORLD! Are some you asshole critics being asked to play with some of the best in the world? I think not! Keep sitting in your bedroom while she is traveling the world. While you are in your room, read a damn book sometimes. I suggest the autobiography of Jaco to start. In the mean time, stop hating! It shows a lack of security and self confidence. Marcus Miller himself was influenced by Jaco. Any bass player that can really play was. Jaco was influenced by James Jaimerson and it keeps going.........

Some people apply their simple rules to this genius, and they do not seem to realize that she comes from India, so her concept of music is certainly not European or American, which is perfectly fine. She plays the bass more like a sitar, and I like every bit of it. She may not even be from India, but from outer space..😉

Yes she is very attractive and good looking to the point of distraction but she is still a very talented player. She has 2 God given gifts, beauty🧞 and musical ability.🎸 Exceptional in both departments. All of the critics sound as if they have already attained "Nirvana". She still has plenty of time to grow. She started playing bass at 3 and never stops. I think she has 50mm thick callus on her right thumb finger. And pain was not a big deal to her as well haha.. Amazing girl indeed!

The internet doesn't seem to understand that there's a difference between honest criticism and being a "hater". Everyone's favorite argument seems to be, "Well YOU can't do it, so you have no right to say anything." I'm sure those very people criticise all kinds of stuff. Movies, music, tv shows, comedy - stuff that THEY can't do either. But when someone criticizes what THEY love, they get butthurt and throw that ridiculous argument out like it holds any water.
