I am from 🇦🇺 and the system you’ve described where the employer is obligated to pay 11% of your base salary into a fund, is called Superannuation Guarantee. Only under special circumstances can that money be accessed prior to retirement. People can elect to manage that money themselves via another vehicle: Self Managed Super Fund (SMSF) which is kind of like a pseudo hedge fund. Highly regulated, various reporting requirement and can invest in all asset classes, with an expecting of margin loans and derivatives.

Mohnish is famous among Turkish stock traders. Not so favorably at times but I find him brilliant in chasing value

Meb likes the sound of his own voice. Would have preferred it if he spent more time asking questions and listening.

Better opportunities. What he doesn't say about selling Apple is this... if you find something better, then it is ok to sell it. Mohnish thinks he has found this in cheap coal companies. (Just my take, could be wrong)
@JustinTipton
@JustinTipton Год назад
My question for Mohnish is, what's your theory about coal in 20 years? Sure, the companies are cheap, but buybacks of business headed to zero seems like a greater fool bet. If these coal companies were paying 14% dividends (which they could!) I could understand.
@BradKaellner

@@JustinTipton his coal bets are short-term

@@JustinTiptonthat's why ARLP is a more safe bet. More diversified, also deals with met coal, and has a massive 13+% distribution.

Very well said by Mohnish! In reality, it is hard to do for most people, including Mohnish. He sold most of his positions very quickly too (very high portfolio turnover). His recent sale of MU is due to the deterioration of the fundamentals. But I agree that long term it is not unclear.
