The actress playing the mom is legit amazing and needs to be in more horror movies holy shit 😂

Evil Dead has some of the best makeup designs out there they are able to make the possessed actually look possessed.

Absolutely lost it in the theater when we were shown the peep-hole perspective and you just see the possessed mother waddling after that kid in the hallway just to sling him into a wall like a ragdoll.

I actually got invited by the director Lee Cronin to see the premiere of it here in Ireland, my mum was selling him a house and we got talking after he found out that I’m a film student. Genuinely nice guys, I was sitting with him and his dad for it. And Charlie you might find this funny, regarding that fusion monster at the end. I asked him what the inspiration for that was and lee cronins response was “I wanted it to be like the most fucked up family hug

I loved this movie, it had great references to the previous movies while not over saturating it with them in an out of place way

The eyeball bit was so intelligently timed too, because Evil Dead 2 had you questioning whether it was trying to be comedic or just insane without intending for laughs, with Ash losing it after rekilling Linda. It wasn't until the cellar is stomped and Henrietta's eyeball is swallowed by a cast member that it's immediately made clear that "Yes, it's on purpose, this is a Horror movie, but we can have some fun here too." It wasn't just a shoutout visually, but thematically.

The scene where the boy played the records and did that ritual was one of the best parts in a scary movie in so long! It was so spooky and it was filmed ridiculously well.

My biggest gripe is a lot of the time the characters will just sit there while the demon does whatever it wants. Especially when the mom was hurt with scissors and they decided to have a conversation 10 ft away from her instead of trying to run

I’ve never had such a physical reaction than I did with the cheese grater scene 😭 The entire theater I was In literally yelled when that happened. I loved the makeup in this movie it was so good. Made the possesed people actually look possesed/dead

I'm glad this movie proves that Evil Dead can survive without Ash. Don't get me wrong, I'll miss him and he's my favorite horror character ever, but I'm glad we can still have good movies even though he's gone

I have to agree with you about the sound. The sound in this movie is what really had me terrified the entire time. Like when she’s getting possessed in the elevator & you can hear the demon snarling grunting & laughing behind her. Fucking terrifying & amazing st the same time lol. The eyeball flying across the room and shooting into someone’s mouth is actually a homage to the Three Stooges. It’s the grape flicking scene replayed in a horror setting. First seen in Evil Dead 2.

I liked the ending flip because for an hour straight it was relentless intensity. It gave the character a chance to take the fight to them instead of being the victim for the entire outing.

That eyeball was hilarious and also EVERYTHING that happened through the peephole was pure gold!

That eye ball scene was a great call back from the evil dead original.

Evil Dead walks such a fine line of comedy/self-awareness and downright scary moments. It was a great film

I really loved the references... the elevator like in The Shining, the laughing demons like in Evil Dead 2, the intro being a callback of sorts to Fede Alvarez' requel

Fun fact: at 3:30 when Charlie talks about the eyeball, that's actually a call back to the original evil dead 2 movie, which was inspired by a 3 stooges gag where one of the stooges shoots a marble down some ones throat

This Movie was so Good and Terrifying at the same time. It had great jumpscares, references to previous movies, Crazy and Terrifying scenes that had my Jaw dropped.

Cheese Grater scene was crazy.

I don’t see many people talking about how great the setting is. It adds to the already very high tension with how small everything is with it being really only a hallway and one small apartment.

That peephole perspective was super intense when you see the Mom looking anxiously through the door almost in a mocking way because the demon can basically see everything that's happening

Just got done watching it about an hour ago, and i do admit that the sounds were fucking great in this. Felt like the whole god damn theater was shaking when the mom started screaming in the bathroom, especially when the recording started summoning the deadits. Sound was 10/10 in this movie.

My sister is a horror movie buff and she called me excited about watching the movie. That’s how I know it’s dope. Can’t wait to watch now

Feels like there was a decade where 90% of horror movies coming out were trash but the last few years has had a pretty good balance of trash and actual well-made and thought out films. I think we've finally deviated into the good timeline

The thing about Evil Dead and the “tropes” are that it kinda is the origin of modern horror tropes.

We watch all the other evil dead movies the day before. It was a 6 hour marathon. But after watching that you can find all the little refrences and homages to the older films. It was honestly a ton of fun! I love that theyre sticking to the whole "retcon every movie that came before it" bit

I’m such a big fan of evil dead, I’m so happy to hear this. My buddy went to see it last night with a date and uh, they had no context to what evil dead is and hated it. Them hating it gave me so much faith in this movie, that it isn’t made for a general audience and that it is, unapologetically and evil dead movie. Can’t wait to see this! Also my dude will probably never see her again because who would take someone to evil dead on a first date lmao.

I liked the movie a lot but I do wish it had more surreal elements like in Evil Dead 2. Didn’t need to be as campy but I would have been interested in seeing some more of the madness. I also felt the motherhood theme was more of an afterthought. One of the more memorable horror movie theater experiences in recent memory.

The part where the boy founds the underground library and you can hear the small cries from the priests got me shivers.

Everything in it, I thought "this is what should happen in an Evil Dead movie". First Hellraiser, and now Evil Dead. Great horror movies in the last 6 months - I hope it's a new trend.

I was wondering how they were going to deal with the kids in the movie. It did not disappoint. Kids did not have plot armor.

Saw it Thursday and I actually fucking loved it. Felt like it hit the same level of scares/gore as the remake while still leaving a bit of the original trilogies camp intact!

The one thing I'm mad about is how they dropped the pizza on the floor, but it was in the box and they left it there. It was still in the box, uncontaminated.

It delivered on what I expect from Evil Dead. Good scares and use of atmosphere, great body horror.

I haven't watched the movie yet. But judging from this scene that Charlie just described at 3:07, I think this scene is a reference to another scene in Evil Dead 2 where Possessed Henrietta's eyeball popped out after getting her head smashed with the cellar door and then flying directly into Bobby Joe's mouth as she was screaming in panic.

Was pretty much everything I want in an evil dead movie. Loved the beginning sequence. The evil dead genre is just a classic.

Personally I think the final form could’ve been more terrifying and much bigger if it wasn’t just Ellie, Danny and Bridget who bonded into the form but the rest of the people in the hotel who were possessed joined in.

I like the Evil Dead universe because if you think about it, a demon would probably have the time of its life killing. Coming up with insane way to kill someone and making jokes out of it. It almost makes it even more terrifying.

This movie is going to be a creative masterpiece.

it's good to remember that the original Evil Dead created a lot of the tropes present in this one. Also the main demon turning into a big monster thing is pretty standard for Evil Dead. Henrietta in pt 2 goes from old lady to old lady demon to some big weird long neck monster thing.

I think why they made that mega demon at the end was for shock value. While seeing the demons look scary seeing ur family and mingled together trying to kill you would be terrifying.

Bruh when they looked through the peep hole and the little kid is running through the hall and she’s just jittering her way towards him and they both went off screen and the kid goes flying back across the screen with his arms missing got a good laugh out of me

This is definitely the Evil Dead we all used to know. Movie was brilliantly made. Instant SS tier.

The ads I had seen made it look like a run-of-the-mill boring horror movie. But seeing how it got good reviews and how people are genuinely enjoying it, I definitely wanna give this a watch

Side note, the final form of the demon has to take that form because of the lead deadite being close to death and had to reform in some shape to continue on.

Gotta love with each addition to the series there is only one constant: Ash/his trainees are the only people proficient in combating deadites, everyone else is just chum for the bucket

Maybe I'm just getting old, but your point about the movie being so loud all the time is the main point that bothered me. So much of the horror could have spoken for itself without all the loud sharp audio cues relentlessly being thrown at us. They absolutely lose impact after like 6th one within 15 minutes. Let the art speak for itself, don't force a cue on us to tell us what we know, it's scary.

I still got my VHS of The Evil Dead from Suncoast video. In 2020 they played it at a pop-up Drive-In and I had to go with my friend and got a t-shirt that I might have to wear to Evil Dead Rise tonight. I like how it has a new setting of a high-rise apartment building.

I just watched it. It was a pretty good film. The first and second acts really left me anxious and were pretty scary until the end of the last elevator scene. After that, the film just went to a funny approach, even my sibling (who dislikes horror and showed up at the end of the film) watched from after the elevator scene to the end and found it funny. There were moments during the film that I couldn't help but think "Danny you stupid child!" or when something horrible happens in front of the little girl "That will be some good session on therapy to fix that trauma" There weren't a lot of jump scares, the biggest jump scare from this film was from Jesus Christ

This movie was a 10/10 it was so amazing scary wise, tension, action and lines they really made this seem like a new movie. Literally my mom was screaming and saying things this is probably hands down best horror movie of the year most likely even 2 years

the fact that this doesnt even have a 7+ rating on IMDB is a disgrace. I gave it at least an 8/10 rating, no regrets

I'm going to see this soon. I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the Evil Dead movies from the 80's, but Evil Dead from 2013 remains as my favorite movie of all time. It's just perfect. If Evil Dead Rise outdoes that, then God damn! I'll be happy.
