He's just being purposefully obtuse to push his own agenda, which clearly seems to be allowing adult men to marry/fuck underaged girls. Most age of of consent laws already include provisions about age proximity and marriage when both parties are minors. "Age of consent" clearly does not have to change the actual age as to when people can consent to things like sex and marriage completely independently. If he was being sincere then he would simply be arguing that laws need to have nuance around age proximity, parental consent etc. But no, he clearly just wants to justify his pursuit of child brides.

To be fair he hasn’t really advocated for trans rights openly until now, and I think he was finally kinda forced to give his take by Sneako bringing it up on the spot. But yeah personally I think he’s well meaning toward trans people, even if he doesn’t seem very educated or familiar with them in general- thus not pushing back on the bottom surgery for minors thing that Sneako was spreading misinformation/lies about, etc. I just don’t get why he was so shocked that he had anti trans sentiments within his own community- I knew there were, the comments sections of his videos and stream chat was always full of chuds. Maybe he missed the dog whistles? IMO it sucks that he’s “letting them win” in a sense by taking that faction of his fanbase seriously instead of saying “good riddance” to them. The hiatus for mental health I understand but from a PR perspective, it unfortunately plays into the dissenter’s claims (of Charlie being cancelled, rightly so in their mind) He should be unbothered by the opinion of such idiots. Though easier said than done, I know. Still, as a cis man he isn’t the one being harmed by this issue, it’s trans people who suffer from it and can’t simply take themselves out of the “debate”. Idk it’s complex I guess. I do think this is his famous “fence sitting” behavior in how he portrays himself online coming to bite him in the ass a bit. As he’s unintentionally/unknowingly catered to people across the political spectrum including right wing extremists. It was through his own negligence at the very least, though I think now that he’s aware he can grow and show himself fully capable of being an ally if he so chooses.
