Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! I just discovered your videos on RU-vid and in the last month I have noticed a big difference with my thinning locs. You saved me from cutting them off!
My hair was coming out really bad. During this time, I had gone for my GYN checkup. I told my doctor what was happening. He was cognizant enough to recognize I needed some blood work done. It was shown that I was Vitamin D deficient. My own General Practitioner wasn't even paying attention.
I love listening to Yannie talk about hair. She is very informative and so passionate! I know that there are many ways to care for locs, but I have decided to use the method that she promotes and I have already seen an improvement in my hair and especially my scalp. If you go over to her FB page, she has a video about taking care of your hair during the winter and that really got me jumpstarted to what I think will be a health hair regimen. I use the rosewater and vitamin e mix that she recommends and my hair is super soft. Since I am just starting out on my loc journey, I will be able to avoid a lot of the unnecessary stuff that I know that others have experienced. It works for me!
Same here...3 weeks in and LUCKILY I first discovered Yannie via her loc detox video, then recently by my sister's recommendation when I spoke of looking for an authentic loc journey path. I keep my regimen simple; my hair speaks, I listen and follow through accordingly. I feel so alive........... :-)
In the end, I couldn't really follow her regimen due to highly sensitive scalp and face, but I still maintain the overall less is more attitude with my hair and it IS thriving!
When I do my hot oil treatments for my locs, I spritz my hair lightly with water, seal with my treatment oil, and then I use a hot moist towel over my hair, followed by a plastic bag.
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏾❤️ I have just shaved my head and I'm excited for my loc journey 🌻 Sharing from a space of love and life, vitamin D is most definitely rich in a plant diet as plants sit and soak up energy directly from the sun and the ground under the sun. Especially Greens. That is how animals get their vitamin D and the reason why my African parents have vitamin D deficiency, because they believe eating meat is our natural diet as humans.
This is very educational for me.... I am natural since 2012 ..... My hair went from black to black and pepper to white..... It is a stunning look! I do braids and twist by myself.... Did I hear well that detergent dishwashing liquid with lemon is good for build up? Does it damage the scalp? God bless you , Yannie !
This was so informative I didn’t know I should use lemon dishwashing liquid, I just washed my hair I will be re washing and following all your videos!! Thank you Queen ❤
I used the dishwashing liquid on my 11 month old microlocs. It really works but I doubt I'll use it during every wash (which is every 4 weeks for me). It made my hair thinner. I just prefer fuller locks. That's my experience but please try it for yourselves because it does really get rid of build up. The expensive shampoos I've been buying don't work as well. Edit: My locks are softer than they've ever been
Maat Hotep,I love all of your videos, they are very informative. I will be trying the lemon dish detergent today and can not wait to see the results. I would like to know if you have a video demonstrating the interlocking method?
Hi Yannie, how are you doing ? i am from Jamaica and i have been locking my hair since November 2011, my hair i think is fairly healthy i think but i have been dying to find natural products to use. Just a few weeks ago i saw your RU-vid video about vitamin E and rose water for locks and how to keep it clean and healthy , my question is how does rose water benefit my hair and can it also be used in my daughters hair ? she as natural hair and i don't ever want any chemicals in her hair as well. I ask this question as a friend of mine asked me it as well. Looking forward for your answer.
to answer the question of how can u moisturize locs without "poofing up" u might wanna look into interlocking ; or putting your locs in a ponytail while moisturizing so they can't un ravel & sleep lik that for one night, I have three different textures in my hair from medium spirals to no curl pattern at all very course more lik z or "wirey look but still soft & only the sides of mine stay after moisture so I decided to interlock.
Locs have to do what they have to do. If they poof up that's just what it is. They're locs. People need to stop manipulating the hair. If you don't want poof them don't embark on locking your hair.
I think she's saying Shea moisture products and other shampoos cause build up. She doesn't believe any products on the market are good or can clean locs properly. She makes it clear that the dishwashing lemon detergent removes the build-up in locs. It's called a loc bath which I know does work. You have to use boiling hot water in conjunction though and you would use it for copious amounts of build-up. She actually has a video that shows how it's done. I personally use Alafffia African Black soap to wash my hair and I use aloe, rose water, & vitamin e oil to daily spritz my hair. I use the Shea moisture masques for deep condition. I use ABS b/c I have seborrheic dermatitis & it helped tremendously. I had a really bad case and it alleviated it greatly. The loc bath I would only do to get rid of build up, but I did plenty ACV rinses when I started my locs, so thankfully, I don't have that problem. I don't use a lot of product anyway.
She pointed to Dr. Dr. Bronner's peppermint magic soap, lemon dishwashing detergent & something from Shea moisture. It does sound like you can mix the three. Not sure exactly. If you put lemon in your shampoo, I think it would help with build-up as well.
doglover12 I know this is late, go to her website, she breaks it all the way down. Lemon dish soap and rose water and vitamin e oil, dr.bronners, etc. just an fyi
I was watching one of her other videos where she was talking about dish detergent. She only recommends that for people who used "heavy" products to start their locs/currently using on their locs like: beeswax, gels, petroleum-by products and it builds up within the locs. So the only way to get that out is not shampoos (clarifying) or Castile soap, it's dish washing detergent because it's strong enough to get that unnatural gunk out. It's a "degreaser". She doesn't want ppl to use it every time they was their hair. It's only for the heavy, waxy build up.
Everything in life has multiple uses. It’s marketed as dishwashing detergent but has many uses. Castor oil is marketed as hair growth oil, but we use it as body oil too. Make sense? 👋🏾
first of all I want to say I love your videos and I've learned a lot. thank you first and foremost. I'm not sure if I missed it or not but I hear you say that you don't use no products just rolls on the scalp and that's cool. I'm a little confused on how to wash my locs. do I just use water? I heard you say something about lemon dish detergent . doesn't that have other chemicals in it ? what about the vinegar wash with the baking soda and lemon is that safe or is it a no go to ? my son has them too so I want to make sure I'm doing things the proper way. please touch base the back with me ASAP thanks
Not 100% sure, but I heard her mention aloe vera directly from the plant before. I've been watching videos on that though, and you have to let the natural latex drain from it first.
i like and respect this lady but she does not explain things fully, like the dish detergent, I'm sure theres a method to using it. she also say a lot of contradictory statements in this video and when i go back to her other videos.
sherrica brooks I am not loc'd, but her website says you do a loc detox with lemon dish liquid and hot water, then shampoo with peppermint dr. Bronners....then oil your scalp and don't shampoo often.....
No, she said that the plant that castor oil comes from does, but actually the seed itself contains ricin which is very toxic. The heating part of the oil extraction destroys the ricin.
you gotta moisturize the ends to. If you hear different im telling you from experience its the oldest part of your dreads so moisture them when they look and feel dry but not all the time.
spray with water and seal with oil, preferably a heavy oil like castor oil. Remember the difference between our hair and that of other races is that because of the coils in our hair, the natural oils (sebum) does not flow from root to tip as fast and so we have to add oil and not wash as often. Water is the only moisturizer.. the oil seals it in. Others wash their hair daily because of the creation and flow of sebum onto the hair which is a somewhat thick wax and oil consistency. I hope this helps.
AbuMuusaa Merrick Abd Al Khabir no, locs hold in products and Shea butter is terrible for locs. It would only cause massive amounts of buildup. Natural oils is key.
She particularly doesn't like to start locs but her mom did a client of hers and she started with a braid and then finished in a two strand twist. The braid is to keep the loc from unraveling.
dont forget that she braided the hair at the root, then she two-strand twisted the hair, THEN she braided the ends. this is how i started my locs and having braided the ends helped so much to keep the ends together. now the ends are starting to loc up and the hair at the root has already started to loc as well. ive heard her say that the actually "twisted" middle section takes longer to connect.
