I love how she addressed dry skin separately along with acne prone skin as opposed to other dermatologists here on youtube who automatically assume acne prone skin comes with an oily skin type. Acne with dry skin is a thing, YES. So helpful!
Many doctors recommend CeraVe moisturizing lotion for oily acne prone skin. The truth is I have oily skin but I didn't had any acne and after using it I broke out like I was in my teens.
@@aprilj9937 I have acne/scars and oily skin would u recommend it for someone with that type of skin and which one cuz I’ve seen there’s one with fragrance and without fragrance but many peoples skin burn with the fragrance?
I came here to thank you for your recommendations I watched so many videos on products for dry acne prone skin and non of them were as informative or helpful as this one, I’ve tried many of these moisturisers but the one that saved my skin was the Cicaplast b5 Baum, I didn’t realise how damaged my skin barrier was until I used it, no wonder acne treatments stopped working for me 😭 I seriously can’t thank you enough.
I feel most skin care products are geared towards normal to dry skin. Unfortunately, they cause breakouts for those of us with extremely reactive, acne prone skin. As an acne sufferer, I have realized, for me, less is more. A cleanser & moisturizer with minimal ingredients. The less stuff it has, less potential irritants. Vanicream cleanser & moisturizer work for me. I am staying away from actives like BP, retinol, BHAs & other acids because, apart from potential for irritation, they make skin photosensitive, & I broke out horribly in cystic acne the last time I used my 'non-comedogenic' sunscreen. I know it's not ideal, but now I just stay out of the sun. However, of the above, BP did help to clear my acne. Additionally, don't neglect diet. Along with eliminating sugar, junk food & dairy, adding cod liver oil/Vit A, probiotics supplements, zinc, & magnesium to your diet can also help.
Hi, what is your skin type? Oily isn't it? I have oily skin type and acne prone as well and am now looking for moisturizer that suit with my problems, if your skin is oily I'll probably try vanicream moisturizer
Pacifica makes a very nice gel cream that's fragrance free and contains ceramides and niacinamide. It's the one in a light purple jar. Their products in that color container are all fragrance free while pretty much all other Pacifica products contain fragrance.
Cerave moisturizing cream dry to very dry skin is clogging my pores so badly especially in my forehead area .I cant deny the fact that it leaves my skin so smooth and plump .My mom loves cerave as it is 10/10 for her doesn't clogged any pores .
@@sumankashif4291 iam cleansing with honey just apply it and leave on my skin .(which leaves my skin supple smooth and shiny) Also Kottakkal Ayurvedas (Kerala, Indias) kumkumadi thailam is a great option which is a kind of oil will not cause any acne also it helps to clear acne (for me there wasn't acne but had cc from cerave ) also give bright and smooth complexion for our skin I highly recommend it just 3 drops is enough. I stopped every thing as I understood that these products means skin care items and their preservatives, ,may distrupt my skins barrier ,ability ,ph,microbium etc as you skin before any skin care just with a common Ayurvedic soap it was great after using products it is a blast .
Both the Cerave break me out. The Neutrogena does nearly nothing, it's only good for layering. The Clinique clear jelly is better priced and also works alone if you have very oily skin. The Rephr Light moisturizer is great under sunscreen (doesn't make it pill) and its great to mix with Vanicream lotion for a night cream. The ordinary has many hydratIng serums that could be mixed in as well. I always have Vanicream light lotion on hand. The closer to cream you can get the more moisturizing a product is, but creams very often break me out, so lotion is the step down. Ive seen people rave about the Aveno oat gel cream too.
Cerave breaks me out like crazy, I always wondered why it works for everyone but me so I kept going back to it until I realised that it really isn’t the best product out there, La roshe posay on the other hand is an amazing brand for people with dry acne prone skin you should definitely give it a try.
@@lamz1597 Cerave breaks me out as well. It may have something to do with the climate you are in because if you are using hyaluronic acid in a dry climate, it will take moisture from your own skin instead of taking moisture from the air, hence stripping away your skin barrier and making it more sensitive.
@@priyankashah5468 I live in the UK so some the weather is very unpredictable, it’s mostly very cold here though so I end up with very dry and flaky skin, I’ve recently switched to the Cetaphil face wash and it surprisingly worked really well on my skin I haven’t had a major break out since, I’m too scared to go back to cerave now.
The LRP double repair moisturizer and cicaplast has really helped my acne and damaged skin barrier. I didn’t have issues with acne that I noticed but my texture is still really bumpy from closed comedones I think
I stumbled on your videos looking for a moisturizer and I found it in interesting that were both from Minneapolis / the twin cities! thanks so much for the help :)
The Neutrogena one clogs my pores like crazy. Every time I use it I get painful cysts. I’m currently at the point where I don’t know what to use anymore. My acne is crazy even with products that used to work for me. Idk what to do anymore 😭😭😭
I see many dermatologists reccommend CeraVe Moisturizing cream but it made me break out all around my face and it clogs my pores even after I double cleanse. I've been using tretinoin for 2 months and I started to have very clear skin. As soon as I started to use CeraVe, in 2-3 days I had tiny bumps all around my face like I'm allergic. It says non comedogenic and anti allergic so I have no idea what's going on.
Omg same! It was so confusing at first because the products say non-comedogenic but in reality it's the reviews of the moisturizer that matter. (I legit use Aloe Vera gel as a moisturizer due to barely any products suiting my skin).
I never broke out with it immediately, but it would clog my pores so much that over time, my skin got worse and worse. I didn't use it on my face but on the rest of my body, i had that large tube they sell. I used it everywhere, especially after shaving, and I never realized that CeraVe was the cause of my back acne & ingrown hairs until I stopped using it. Also I am white with wavy hair and dry skin for reference!
Thank you Dr. Liu for the LRP effaclar mat moisturizer suggestion. It works well with my skin thats dried out from other acne products and helps my PIH heal quicker and show up to a lesser extent on my skin. Thank you for making this video and God bless.
I Love the Avene moisturizer vut the light Version and Not the Rich Version So incredible but now i curiouse about the recommendations you Made Thank you 👍🏼
thank you so much for this. every year around the spring and summer time i brake out and my skin gets so oil so i have to change what im using but im definitely going to look into the cervave moisturizer!!
lol now i change my mind everything you shared about the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat Daily Face Moisturizer explains my skin im going to get it tomorrow!! thank you so much. i hope you have an amazing day!
Hi Doctor I'm 17 year old girl and I have sensitive, oily and acne prone skin. I'm also on Accutane. Can I use Neutrogena gel cream moistrizer that is for extra dry skin and is fragrance free? Will it break me out because it is for extra dry skin? What about simple light moistrizer? Will this break me out? Also can a 17 year old girl use hydrating eyecream to hydrate the skin around the eyes? Or is it too early for her? Can you please recommend a good hydrating eyecream suitable for her age that won't cause milia? (She has verrry sensitive eyes ) What's your opinion on Neutrogena Hydro boost eyecream/ simple roll on eye cream for her age? Can she use them and would you recommend them?
Accutane dries out your skin A LOTT so the gel cream would be perfect. It’s very lightweight yet hydrating, just make sure you apply it on damp skin and lock it in with another moisturizer. You can also add a very thin layer of vaseline or cerave healing ointment as the last step of your night routine to seal in the moisture further as it prevents water loss therefore reducing the dryness & irritation that comes with accutane. And make sure you don’t use any actives under it since that could cause serious damage to your barrier.
Another cream for dry skin is Tatcha's dewy skin cream (purple jar). It IS a bit pricey. $$$ But if you can afford it I think it is a nice cream. Pros: -It is thick and dewy, and a little goes a long way. It's great for winter. -Once I put it on I find I don't need to put on another mositurizer the next morning. It lasts the whole next day until evening. Cons: -I've heard tatcha creams have tar oil in them? Not sure if this is true. -It's really expensive. -The scent might be too strong for some.
this recommendations are amazing, thanks ! but don’t know what to choose because a have a mixt skin. (sensitive) oily in the T Zone and dry on the cheek with acne. (it’s like a little white comedon but infected) Can you help please, what to choose ?
Hi Dr Jenny, Stumbled upon your channel from Mixed Makeup and I thoroughly enjoy your video :) I have a question on the tip for using a non-comedogenic moisturiser for acne prone skin, you mentioned that it would be better to test it out on a small area on the face for a few days to a week. Are there any particular areas that we should test it out on our face? Because I’ve been growing a lot of small comedones on my face (from the ear to the chin area), not sure if i should avoid testing a new moisturiser at these areas since they are more prone to comedones or should I test it on the other areas of my face? Looking forward to your advice and have a great week! :)
How long do you recommend to wait before applying moisturiser and tretinoin etc Also in the morning moisturiser and how long to wait applying sunscreen
I use cleanser with salicylic and after that differin adapalene. They made my face so dry. So i use moisturizer. But the problem is the moisturizer, it makes me too oily and gives me acne breakout and also get lots of blackheads. What should i use?
I’m using tretinoin currently 30-45 min after cerave moisturiser cream in the tub It gets super oily.. but I like that it’s thick. They don’t sell the cerave pm lotion in australia so hmm might just keep using this for now
One time I tried to use the cerave moisturizing lotion (for body and face) but I had so many acne, specially in my forehead, that I needed to stop using it. Now I don’t know if I should buy the facial lotion and try again
I am breastfeeding and have IUD for birth control now i am having a bad breakout . I have oily skin or i dunno mayne combination ? Cuz my skin gets dry sometimes . I live in sweden which has a cold climate i tried cerave, cetaphil and ACO but nothin works . Help me please . I am looking for a good moisturizer .😢😢😢
I'm on the 3 week of isotretinoin right now and my skin went from super oily to dry...its so weird...i used to complain about my greasy face and now is just matte....i've been using the ordinary moisturizer but now i have to use an oil over it at night so im looking for a richer moisturizer...im drawn to the cerave cream...thanks for the help...
Hi Dr. Liu. Thank you for this video. Do you think that the ingredient Myristic Acid is comadogenic? It is contained in the LRP Double Moisturizer that I would like to use. Thanks for your help.
Hi Doctor! Been struggling acne for decades. I have this BIG question, is dry skin means also dehydrated? Maybe the products are not working because im not getting the proper products for my skin ☹️ I have acne prone and im not sure if i have dry/dehydrated/oily type. Thank you 😊
When i used the pm cerave niacinamide face lotion i got clogged pores undrneath my eye and it dried my face sooo bad i have oily skin Did this happened to anyone?
Cerve night made my skin get irritated ?? Even sunscreen causes my skin to get red ?? 🫠 I have large pores oily skin do get small dry areas During only Winter months...
The cera ve moisturizing cream somehow leaves me feeling very tight and dry the moment apply it on, but throughout the day I feel very hydrated but also oily… I wanna cry 😭
I had the same experience with the cream. I have oily skin and didn’t like how light the lotion was so I tried the cream expecting it to be more hydrating. It was from initial application but within an hour my skin gets tight and even more oily quicker
Nice and useful info! Thank you so much for sharing your reco. Do you recommend Cerave night cream for dry sensitive and acne prone skin? Regarding facewash, do you recommend La Roche Posay gentle face cleanser for dry, sensitive and acne prone skin?
